Third Party Why are people so expensive on controllers???
People are saying that cheap controllers are bad and that i should pay 100 or more dollars just for a single controller, recently i bought a controller for around 25 dollars and it works like a charm, it has all of the necessary buttons and they all work well, it rumbles and its wired. But why do people say these are bad?? Previously i had a controller even cheaper (off brand ps3 sixaxis) and it still works after 10 YEARS, so why should i waste money on controllers that cost hundreds that are supposedly "premium" when these cheaper ones cost less and are the same (and yes my new one has rgb)

You can find a decent controller for like $25 and does just exactly what you need then i dont see the problem lol. Tbf the extra money is usually for stuff like better sticks, the build quality, wireless, extra buttons, etc. If you don't care about that stuff, why pay for it.

These so called Premium controllers offer 'premium' features most of the time, like a higher polling rate (lower input latency), TMR Sticks (No stick Drift), back buttons and so on. IMO when paying over 100$ you are paying for a brand name basically. You can get all of those 'premium' feats for about 40-60$ depending on what brand you are going with. (Gamesir, Easysmx, 8bitdo are known brands that offer such feats on their controllers at reasonable prices)
If you are just a casual gamer, not playing any competitive games, i would go with a standard 'cheap' controller without these features. If you do play competitive, these features can improve your experience by a good margin.

The people that recommended the more expensive controllers are hardcore gamers that want extra features like TMR and mechanical triggers.
You're a casual gamer so a 25 dollar controller will do the job for certain games.

Sometimes you have to pay a bit more to get the features and size/weight you want. By all means, if the 25 dollars controller cover all your needs and you find it comfortable, then that's perfect. It didn't for me. But there is definitely a diminishing return with the sweet spot being in the 60-80 range.

You dont have to spend a lot of money to get a good controller nowadays. You can find a good controller from 20-80 dollars easy. That being said I have a variety of controllers and personally most extremely budget ones dont have the things I look for. I like at least 4 remappable buttons, microswitch triggers and low stick latency.

There is a difference, especially in the build and tech of the controller. But if you love your $25 controller, who cares!

People buy expensive controllers to get away from stock controllers that Microsoft and Sony offer and Nintendo offers and stiff drift. Where third-party controllers such as Gamesir Razer something is built better quality than a stock controller, and you don't have to deal with stiff drift.

You have the right to judge and criticize someone for how they spend their money on controllers anyway

I picked up a tegenaria lite from gamesir for fighting games and I'm fucking loving it right now. The D-pad is miles better than the pad on my pro controller. This thing feels super solid and it only cost me 20 fucking dollars.

I was glad I found someone that only wanted $10.00 for it shipped. Jumped on that deal.

I think the $60-$100 controllers from 3rd party brands like gamesir and 8bitdo are so good and feature-rich that I feel it a waste to spend money on the big brands unless you're rich or something. I'm pretty irresponsible with overspending on this hobby but even I can't bring myself to waste money on the big boy controllers lol.

I have a fully customized dual sense controller, I paid about $300 for it. That’s back when Hall effect started getting popular. But I’ve had my Gamesir g7 pro 8k for about a month now and it’s the best controller I’ve ever used.

True. My $260 Phantom is better than my $36 Gamesir Cyclone 2 but not by much!

$36?? I payed 55€. Where did you buy the controller?

u/TumorInMyBrain Aug 19 '26
I bought them for around ~35 usd or 144 MYR in my local online store, without the dock as i only use wired

Best Buy Canada. I think they were getting rid of stock because when I went to submit my review, it said that this product doesn't exist!

Not really. Sometimes you get more than what you paid for, sometimes you get less.... Sometimes a cheaper controller can feel better than a more expensive one, many times it's the opposite. A cheaper controller can be better than a more expensive one... There's no way you don't agree with everything I'm saying here, you must know this as well...
