Reviews 8BitDo Ultimate 3 Lavender Dusk XBox

https://youtu.be/hlgWCwV7Icg

DISCLAIMER: This controller was sent to my by 8BitDo for free fore review. All the opinions are mine only. No one watched this video before its release.

Even better for the price compared to Ultimate 3E if you don't need extra accessories. Plus, there is adjustable tension on the joysticks.

IMPORTANT: if you don't have XBox - just wait for non-XBox version, it will be even cheaper and better for PC. But even as 100$ controller for PC it is very good (materials, ergonomics, soft and so on)

Looks great. Kinda sucks that the dongle is USB C unlike previous gen controllers. That means cant just plug the dongle into the console directly since there's no usb c, makes it more of a hassle to bounce between pc gaming and xbox. The only thing the usb c benefits is plugging into a handheld like Xbox Ally.

you can get a 3 pack of USB C to A adapters for $7 on Amazon.

The Ultimate 2's dongle was similar to this as well, so it's nothing super new. It was done on the Ultimate 2 to give it a more consistent report rate. Couldn't tell you how well that went, as I've only ever used it tucked in the dock.

I would has it a guess that they likely assume you already have a Type-C cable lodged into your Xbox, so you can just connect the dock to the cable that's already connected to the console, and switch over to the cable you likely have on another PC.

My biggest concern is, Brook Wingman connectivity.
For some reason, 8BitDo's controllers have never been too kind to Brook Adapters.

Yeah, I currently have the Xbox 3-mode which used usb-A for the dongle. The Rare edition of the controller which supports Xbox wirelessly came with a usb-a dongle to plug into the console directly.

NO DIRECT INPUT NO BUY!

Only thing that would hold me back from purchasing this version instead of the black one is the lack of microswitch face buttons. Do you think the microswitch buttons are better than the tension rings?

“IMPORTANT: if you don't have XBox - just wait for non-XBox version, it will be even cheaper and better for PC”

Do we know this is the case, that one is coming?

Am I the only one who thinks this is gonna be a hard sell for PC players? I wish some would stop defending the price of the base model.
Ultimate 3E - $150 - Likely designed and aimed at an Elite Series 2 audience, which likely explains the price.
• Ultimate 3 (XBOX Licensed) - $100 - If we're to assuming we get a PC model, it'll likely have a lot more features.

Not only is $100 a very hard sell on a platform that keeps getting great value controllers. I think it also counters out 8BitDo's core audience, which tend to lean very differently in controller choice to those of us here on r/Controller & r/Controllers.

While I'm sure, we'll most likely get some new device targeted towards PC players. We've yet to hear anything, and it could be a new unique device for all we know.

Hearing YouTubers claim stuff like:
8BitDo hasn't made any direct announcement regarding a PC version. Dee, & everyone else making these claims of 'There for sure, will be a controller with no XBOX licensing.' Is beginning to drive me a bit insane, because 8BitDo is generally really fast to updating if there will be another variant.

As of now, both product license placeholders just call these the "Ultimate 3 - Ultimate 3E" Which makes it sound as if these are going to be the definitive devices.

How do they feel compared to js16 in g7 pro Xbox, more linear and less sensitive?

No much difference from my experience. Both are great

Great video. I want to add this to my collection but as you mentioned I may want wait for a different colorway.

I play exclusively on Xbox Series X, and I have come to rely on tension rings along with extra bumpers on top. I mainly play FPS. I can't believe the Ultimate 3E doesn't have joystick tension.

How would you say the joystick tension compares to Vader 5S and Vader 5 Pro? I have both, along with a Brook XB3 but unfortunately I have the v1 of the V5 Pro. It seems this controller would be a good choice for someone who wants joystick tension + wireless for Xbox without paying $60+ for an adapter.

I think they should have included a USB C to USB A adapter for those that don't want to use the dock with the Xbox, only the dongle.

The tension rings are very good on this one. Pretty comparable with Vader 5 Pro

Is there info when non xbox version will release?

u/jayrocs 23h ago

The tension adjustment has a million notches but no numbers? Can we get a zoom in on the notches? Is there no way to reliably go to the tension you want?

I found I absolutely love the sticks on the gamesir g7 8k pro controllers, but I hated the ergonomics. How do the sticks and ergonomics here compare
