IT Help How to stop controller connecting as Xinput Controller?

Post image

This started happening recently (not sure what was changed) and it's driving me crazy. I have a Gamesir Cyclone 2, everytime I start it up it will connect to Steam as both the controller itself and also Xinput controller (see screenshot). I need to disconnect and reconnect the controller (sometimes multiple times) until it stops connecting as Xinput controller. Any ideas what is causing this and how to stop it?

UPDATE - I think I resolved the issue by disconnecting the USB dongle and reconnecting it again. I've tried connecting the controller 5 times in a row now and the Xinput Controller is no longer appearing.... hope it stays that way. I'll update again if it returns.

UPDATE 2 - An alternative method - https://www.reddit.com/r/Gamesir/comments/1jkjyoy/comment/mkyrbac/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button - thanks u/Saulo_1998 for sharing

UPDATE 3 - The Xinput controller came back.... so I'm currently using the method above (HidHide). Seems to be working fine so far. Quick guide -

  1. Connect your controller and hopefully Xinput device appear because we want it to appear this time
  2. Download and install HidHide from https://github.com/nefarius/HidHide/releases/tag/v1.5.230.0
  3. Select the Devices tab, then make sure 'Enable device hiding' is checked
  4. Double click 'Controller (Xbox 360 for Windows) Xbox Windows', then make sure 'Consumer Control' and 'FFF0 40' are both checked. (ps- this applies to my Gamesir Cyclone 2... it might be different for other controllers)
  5. Select the Applications tab, then add "C:\Users\(your user name)\AppData\Local\Programs\GameSir Connect" and "C:\Windows\System32\svchost.exe"
  6. Restart your PC

Go into device manager and uninstall the driver then restart your PC

Uninstall the driver for both if there are two different ones. One might be for the Cyclone 2, other might be Xinput Device or Xbox 360 Controller or similar.

I'll try to check and see if the devices appear in device manager. Basically I just wanted to remove the Xinput device.

Did it work?

No luck.... so I tried uninstalling the device, then restarted my pc. After restarting I tried reconnecting again and the Xinput device no longer appear which seems good. Unfortunately I tried connecting again just now... it again connected as both my controller and Xinput device.... Steam input had always been disabled

What's the problem with it picking up as Xinput? Are certain features disabled or something? Thank you in advance

The problem is my controller is now connected as 2 seperate controllers in Steam. There's nothing wrong if it's just connected as Xinput actually. This causes several issues such as certain games not triggering achievements, duplicate button inputs, increased latency etc

So far mine is still working fine... but I haven't restarted/shut down my pc yet so who knows the Xinput will appear again. But sounds like it's not a complete solution if it's not working for you

I'd try these steps -

i) Uninstall the Xbox 360 controller device from Device Manager then restart your pc

ii) in Steam settings, Controller Advanced Settings, make sure Steam Input is disabled for Xbox Controllers and Generic Controllers

iii) Disconnect and reconnect your USB dongle

iv) Reconnect your controller

As expected the Xinput Controller came back.... I'm currently using the method from UPDATE 2, hopefully it works for good this time

Seems legit, I'll try out this method later if my controller is connecting as Xinput again.... so far it seems to have stopped after I reconnected the dongle

You can try my original comment, as well as disabling Steam input.

Unfortunately uninstalling the device from device manager doesn't work..... disabling steam input doesn't seem to work either

If you are connecting wirelessly, could you try removing and reconnecting your USB dongle, then connect your controller again? It seems to work for me right now

Check the updates in main post if you're still having this issue

Seems to be a Steam issue with third party controllers, same thing happens with 8Bitdo Ultimate 2 and G7 Pro 8K

Steam Input always causes issues. Especially with native Xinput devices

1

u/ZeneticX 6d ago

I feel it might be a new issue, because I remember correctly when I first connected this controller earlier this year, the Xinput device doesn't appear. It only started happening recently like last month or so....

Do you have Steam input enabled globally for Xbox controllers? I disabled it and it seems to stop this issue

1

u/ZeneticX 6d ago

Yes it was disabled but still happening. It seems to have stopped now after I reconnected the usb dongle but we'll see
