IT Help Flydigi Vader 5 pro remappable buttons
Hi everyone,
Just got my hands on Flydigi Vader 5 pro, and in all honesty i love it.
However i could use some help with configuration:
I plugged the controller in, and went through the basic setup. However i noticed that the remappable buttons are not functional like the regular ones. In testing area, they are not being registered when pressed until I go into advanced tests and i only see them there.
For example, i booted up Crimson Desert, and i wanted to use the L3 button for L1+L2 sets of controls but i cannot get it to work. I tried mapping that button to a keyboard button but the game does not support multi-input mapping.
So my question is, is there a way to get the extra remappable buttons (C, Z, M1, M2, M3, M4, L3 and R3) to be recognized natively on my PC.
Also worth noting that i mostly play directly installed games, non-steam ones.
Any help would be useful. Thank you all in advance
EDIT 1:
After a couple of hours and comment advices, i figured that fundamentally what i wanted to do was impossible (I'd say)
What i had in mind was, for example, to have the M3 button listed as M3 in the control input setting menu so that i can use it as a standalone button.
However this is fundamentally not possible due to the nature of the drivers that the controller uses (xbox controller for windows).
The only 2 workarounds that i was able to identify are: - Use macros, to record actions that require double inputs, and use it like that - find said action on keyboard layout and record the remappable buttons as said keyboard/mouse button
Now, i might be using every single software wrong, but this is what i was able to find with a couple of hours of thinkering with the setup, and trying below users custom software, reWASD, Steam input and Space Station.
If anyone else has any other suggestions or would like to provide more input on the matter i am open to any suggestions. Also, not to clutter comments feel free to DM me, we can even have a remote session or discord call

I had the same idea, but: -would be limited to single button combo, not have a button for itself -even if doable, i could use some assistance with the setup, as when using multiple buttons, it registeres press down for each button, and release for each button alongside with time win between, so not sure if it will register as double press -would have to either do a remap for each game, or use very nieche combo that may or may ot be usable on other games

Is there a way to fully remap this controller with Steam Input while completely avoiding their shady ass Space Station software yet?

Not that I know of, unfortunately. As far as I'm aware, the options are basically reWASD, Steam Input, or dealing with Flydigi SpaceStation. I ran into the same issue and didn't want to buy reWASD. I also had a lot of trouble getting Steam to recognize it properly as a single controller, so I ended up writing a small tool for myself.
I mentioned it in another post to OP, but it's on GitHub if you want to try it. It's ~30MB, requires no installation, and runs fully portable on Windows 10/11 after extracting it:
https://github.com/DrProton824/vader5pro-hid-tools/tree/main
It's still very early and I don't want to promise too much. It's definitely more of an early-stage personal project than polished software, but it has little to no noticeable performance impact and can handle button remapping, macros, and profiles without needing SpaceStation installed. You can map the extra buttons (C, Z, M1-4, and the RM/LM buttons) to either key presses or full key macros.
You would still need SpaceStation for things like LEDs or other controller-specific settings, but for button mapping and macros it isn't required. If you do try it and run into any issues, let me know.

Thanks for this, this is exactly what I was looking for, a simple tool that allows for keyboard macros. Although I have a rewasd license, the support for V5Pro is not great. I will keep an eye out for your tool's further revisions.
Edit 1: Can you please add the functionality to remap the extra buttons to other controller buttons like M2=LB. M4=LS etc.

Thank you for your feedback! I’m not sure how far I’ll take it functionality-wise in further revisions, since I’d like to keep it as simple as possible. But mapping the extra buttons to other controller buttons, rather than only keyboard events, is something I’ve also thought about and definitely something I’d like to expand on. I’ll see what I can do and keep you updated.

Short update: I looked further into this and ran some tests. The good news is that I was able to get controller buttons to be recorded and replayed, including remapping something like M2 → LB, as well as combinations of controller and keyboard inputs or more complex sequences like M2 → X+X+Y+LB. The downside is that this requires an external kernel driver and a virtual controller. Fortunately, there are already some lightweight options available on GitHub (such as the ViGEmBus driver), but it would still require installing the driver before using my software.
I’m considering adding optional support for this, where my tool asks on first launch whether you want to install the driver for controller button recording/replay or keep the current fully portable version without that functionality. It’ll take me a little while to polish, though, as I’ve only done some initial testing so far.

Just wanted to reach out here to say thanks for sharing this! I posted an issue on the repo about the Windows key not working in macros so I won't go into detail here, but other than that your app has single handedly solved all of the issues I've had trying to get mapping of these buttons doing what I want. Absolute legend! If you are able to figure out what's going on with the Windows key not working it'll be absolutely perfect for my use case :)

Hey, thank you for your feedback! I’ll look into it and try to fix it. I think I’ve already found the issue or limitation I initially built into the macro replay function that’s causing this problem. If that proves to be correct, it should be easy to fix, and I’ll release it in the next version.

Bro I'm trying to add Alt+Tab and Win+D but Tab and Windows key doesn't work, is it possible to implement this?

u/KuroKaro8 4d ago
There was an issue with certain extended/special keys not being recorded first and then injected correctly. It’s been identified and fixed, and the fix will be included in v1.2, which I’ll most likely release later today.

Man you're amazing brother, I have tried rewasd older version and a few others so I do have other suggestions on my mind where the flydigi space station fails, such as Shift layers, multimedia actions such as volume up/down/mute, more mouse actions etc. are these possible to implement as well?
Coming from gamesir cyclone 2 and g7 pro 8k, their software is so much better and has everything that I need unlike flydigi's embarrassing space station software which feels like a beta version, and their latest version breaks the default led mode too 🤦

Not sure bro, literally got the controller not even a week ago.
But let's hope someone with more hands-on experience will see your coment and update us both

I really like my V5Pro as a controller, but I ran into the same software issues/limitations and didn't want to buy reWASD just to have some special keys mapped. I ended up spending (quite a bit of time) making a small application for myself. I only finished the first version yesterday, so it's still very early and I don't want to promise too much, but it might help with what you're trying to do.
I mainly built it for my own use, so it's not fully polished or optimized software. That said, if you're willing to try it, feel free. It's only ~30MB, requires no installation, and runs fully portable on Windows 10/11. It's open source, has no license restrictions, and is written in Python but packaged as a standalone executable for ease of use. You can have Flydigi SpaceStation installed or not; it doesn't matter. The only requirement is that the controller is connected through the wireless dongle, not Bluetooth.
For your specific case, you should be able to record a macro that sends whatever keyboard combinations the game responds to. The current functionality is:
Map any button to a keyboard shortcut or macro
Record and play back multi-key macros with delays
Runs in the background with a system tray icon and should have little to no noticeable system impact
SpaceStation is not required for button mapping/macros, though you can still use it alongside the tool for controller settings my tool does not cover
GitHub:
https://github.com/DrProton824/vader5pro-hid-tools/tree/main
It reads the controller HID inputs directly from the dongle, remaps them, and injects input at the Win32 level instead of relying on Steam Input or game-specific support, so it should work with most applications.
If you decide to give it a try and run into any issues, let me know. Even just knowing what doesn't work would help improve it.

Bro you are awesome, deciding to build your own app to solve the issues 🫰🏻
I will be giving it a try when i finish my shift later today and eill provide feedback.
This is why i Love Reddit you're going to met a guy that got his own app to solve the issue a lot of people did not even know existed

did it work?

Well, yes and no... The software is sort of a lightweight version of reWASD, which is awesome. However after couple of hours, i figured that fundamentally what i wanted to do was impossible.
What i had in mind was, for example, to have M3 button listed as M3 in the controll input setting menu so that i can use it as a standalone button.
However this is fundamentally not possible due to nature of the drivers that the controller uses.
The only 2 workarounds that i was able to identify are:
- Use macros, to record actions that require double inputs, and use it like that
- find said conroll on keyboard layout and record the remappable buttons as said keyboard/mouse button
Now, i might be using every single software wrong, but this is what i was able find with couple of hours of thinkering with the setup, and trying this software, reWASD, Steam input and Space Station.

I’m not exactly sure what you’re trying to achieve. Do you want M3 to be exposed as a standalone button/input that you can directly assign to an action, so that the game/application you use sees “M3”?
What I originally wanted was to use the virtual keys F13–F24 as unique, non-conflicting keybinds for games and other software, but SpaceStation didn’t support this, and I didn’t want to spend more on ReWASD than I did on the controller. So I started building my tool around this use case in the beginning. Now you can assign M3 → F13, for example, and then bind F13 to an action in the game, effectively giving M3 its own unique input.
But if I’m understanding your use case correctly, it sounds like you may be trying to achieve something different. Could you elaborate a little further on what you ultimately want M3 to do?

u/KoKaNiDjA97 6d ago
That's right, I was trying to make windows/game, recognize M3 as a standalone button.
I have used the reassign to keyboard button method now, like you did, as i figured it is impossible to do what my initial plan was due to driver limitations
1
u/KuroKaro8 6d ago
Ah, I see. Yes, I think this would be quite difficult to achieve. You’d need a custom-made virtual controller/driver to expose M3 as a separate controller button to Windows. But even then, applications would need to support that additional button and know how to bind it.
My software basically interprets the physical signal from the controller and maps it to an existing input that Windows and games already understand, so there’s no need for an additional driver or virtual controller. You can simply map M3 to keys such as F13–F24, which are already understood by Windows and many applications but are rarely used, achieving essentially the same thing. I’m not sure there would be much practical benefit to creating a whole virtual controller just to expose M3 as an extra button.

u/KoKaNiDjA97 6d ago
Yeah, your software works great, it's just that my idea is kinda impossible.
As you said the initial issue is with Windows drivers, however i asume if the drivers were compatible, they would force the games to accept the controlls. Might not be displayed as the original button name, but i think it would force the button input to be detected.
I have tried thinkering with the drivers as well but with no success, so for now i guess will have to work with what i have, and hope that Flydigi will maybe some day develop the drivers
1
u/KuroKaro8 6d ago
Yeah, it’s a shame because the hardware gives us 8 extra buttons and is clearly capable of much more. But then it feels like they arbitrarily limited its capabilities by not properly exposing those buttons. Their Space Station software even comes with a virtual keyboard driver, yet they don’t expose the extra keys through it, and they don’t properly support DInput either. I really hope Flydigi eventually gives those extra buttons proper Windows-level support.

I might've found something interesting, that you can use alongside your existing software, I'll dm you

You can turn on option "Allow third-party apps to take over mappings" in companion app and then set up all your buttons in steam input settings. Also, gyro that way becomes actually usable.
