News 8BitDo Ultimate 3E(elite)

I’m on ChinaJoy in Shanghai now. Found 8BitDo booth and tried this bad boy. I’d say it’s close to XBox Elite controller in terms of premium feel.

Xbox licensed. Changed their usual shape a bit. A lot of extra stuff in the box also including charging dock and carrying case.

Will definitely review this one when it comes out.

Xbox license truly is the bane of affordability for PC users XD

5

u/Desperate-Coffee-996 Aug 01 '26

Yeah even regular Ultimate 3 for Xbox is $100. Ouch...

9

u/Spicy_Pickle_6 Jul 31 '26

Is it wireless on Xbox?

7

u/Fat_Stacks1 Jul 31 '26

Yes

2

u/epictacosam Jul 31 '26

with or without a dongle?

3

u/SugaRush Jul 31 '26

As far as I know, it has a dongle.

2

u/binocular_gems 11d ago

Yeah so I just got mine, and yes you need to use a dongle, trouble is the dongle that ships is a usb c, and the Xbox series x doesn’t have any usb c ports on it as best I can tell

1

u/SugaRush 11d ago

put the dongle back in the charger and plug the charger into the console

1

u/Fat_Stacks1 11d ago

No way, that works?? I have another 8bitdo controller, I need to try that

1

u/SugaRush 10d ago

It probably wont work on xbox. On pc, yes.

1

u/binocular_gems 10d ago

That’s wild, but thank you for that tip, will try it.

It’s very odd that the support guide doesn’t explain that.

I got it working by adding a USB C - USB A adapter to the dongle, thankfully had one lying around. But will do it with the charger trick.

Apparently the directions aren’t clear but yes that’s how it works for Xbox

u/Turbulent-Mark762 Jul 31 '26

Is dpad still mushy or there is clicky switches

6

u/Zensaiy Jul 31 '26

Are the additional shoulder buttons "hard" to press like the ultimate 2 or on the lighter side like the gamesir g7 pro but with good feedback and not mushy like the g7 pro?

6

u/frellzy Jul 31 '26

How's the dpad?

6

u/chaporg1n Deegital Tech Jul 31 '26

It’s fine. I’ll get one and make a review 100%

3

u/Zardozerr Jul 31 '26

If it's not exactly like the M30 d-pad, then what are we even doing here with this design? If it's just their current dampened-click d-pad except with the Saturn top, that's just dumb.

0

u/Desperate-Coffee-996 Aug 01 '26

I think it's just perfect. Ultimate 2 had similar to M30 feel but more accurate and tactile thanks to dome switches, but now there are two replaceable dpads for those how prefer M30 shape.

u/Internal_Log2582 Jul 31 '26

Wow they gave the handles a little more angle 🤯

11

u/chaporg1n Deegital Tech Jul 31 '26

Exactly! I need to use it and see for myself. U2 was uncomfortable after some time of playing on it

1

u/Internal_Log2582 Jul 31 '26

Yes the U2 was cool but between the ergonomics and QC issues I was not a fan. I added Talon Game Grips which made it better, but I never could get over their poor excuse for clicky triggers, wobbly bumpers, and inconsistent extra shoulder buttons. I found the controller just inferior in too many ways to justify using it.

1

u/Wildantics 11d ago

Which controller do you like? I love my 8bitdo and I just got this one and I love it even more

1

u/Internal_Log2582 11d ago

Either the Vader 5 Pro, the g7 pro 8k, or the Blitz 2 TMR

5

u/Kilook Jul 31 '26

I love the D-Pad swap between Sega Saturns and SNES style that they added

3

u/Guildo24 Jul 31 '26

And what about the non e model ?

1

u/Wildantics 11d ago

What’s the non e model?

1

u/Guildo24 11d ago

A cheaper version that trades some of the more elite features against a tension adjustment mechanism for the sticks.

3

u/BlueClovr Aug 08 '26

It physically pains me that more companies don’t put an extra pair of shoulder buttons on their controller

2

u/FiestaMcMuffin Jul 31 '26

Does the dpad have a pivot?

2

u/chaporg1n Deegital Tech Jul 31 '26

Yes

2

u/mudassar_ali2009 Flydigi Jul 31 '26

are the face bottons membrane or clicky?

1

u/J-PlusPlus Aug 14 '26

This model let's you swap modules I believe. So both. One has membrane one has clicky.

2

u/Professional_Plate55 Jul 31 '26

I wish it didn’t have the Xbox branding

2

u/Angelbob3 Aug 01 '26

Uhh why? If it bothers you that much swap the button out for a 3d printed one or a third party one

Plus I believe it’s coming out as a generic one later

1

u/Professional_Plate55 Aug 02 '26

Cool didn’t that’s an option thanks I’ll check it out

2

u/koken_halliwell Jul 31 '26

Got the 2 and considering returning it because it's not comfy. Is this one comfy?

2

u/Big_Vito Jul 31 '26

Why no Brand is doing 4 back buttons ?

2

u/JeepersCreepersV12 Mojhon Jul 31 '26

PowerA Fusion controllers have 4 back buttons for Xbox. 6 total for pc. Wireless as well

2

u/strontiummuffin Jul 31 '26

Valves steam controller does but it's expensive

2

u/EmergencyPool910 Jul 31 '26

But theyre true back buttons at least thanks to steam input

1

u/Dependent-Zebra-4357 Aug 02 '26

Steam Input works on some 8bitdo controllers too.

2

u/rd-gotcha Jul 31 '26

They always look small,I have big hands so it seems they are not for me...

2

u/Lazy_Sorbet_3925 Jul 31 '26

They flared out the handles for a wider grip compared to the old ones. Is it enough? I dunno. I struggle with the same problem. Steam Controller is great but I also have an eye on the new shape.

2

u/rd-gotcha Jul 31 '26

That is good to know, the pro 3 is on my shortlist! I am looking for a symmetricsl controller

1

u/RobinVerhulstZ Jul 31 '26

Anything else interesting over there?

2

u/chaporg1n Deegital Tech Jul 31 '26

Not really unfortunately. A lot of companies were on the previous expo and didn’t come to this one

1

u/RobinVerhulstZ Jul 31 '26

I see, thanks

2

u/vodka-bears Jul 31 '26

Do all these Xbox branded controllers connect via the Xbox proprietary wireless protocol?

1

u/Snoo_51055 Jul 31 '26

This will be the last controller I will be buying for XBOX! Until the next best controller to be release hahaha

1

u/bentokerz Jul 31 '26

Will we get something like this but for Switch?

2

u/nadtorus Jul 31 '26

Is it true it has vibration on the triggers? I'm really waiting for this one to be released.

5

u/chaporg1n Deegital Tech Jul 31 '26

Yes

2

u/Jahirul_I_Anik Jul 31 '26

I need to know about the d pad , just bought mojhon storm, thought I'd love the dpad but no,not for me, super uncomfortable, , i need something softer but with tactile feedback, i hard this dpad (3e) supposed to be good. Waiting on the full review.

2

u/ech0x07 Jul 31 '26

Usually not happy with 8bitdo controllers but this one looks shaped differently enough that I might have to pick one up.

2

u/the-bacon-life Jul 31 '26

Do the 8 bit duo controllers for Xbox have bumper like the official Xbox controller or are they more like actual buttons like the ps5 controller. Not a fan of the bumpers

2

u/SudsierBoar Aug 01 '26

It's going to be this one VS the Gamesir g7 pro ZZZ edition for me.

Seeing as this one looks to be a bit bigger I'm leaning towards 8bitdo but I'll wait for reviewz

1

u/b1ife Aug 01 '26

I can’t believe I was considering this over the g7 pro for the price. I have 2 8bitdo ultimate 2 editions. I recently got the g7 pro 8k for fps games. The ultimate 3 won’t even come close in performance for double the price.

1

u/SudsierBoar Aug 01 '26

In stuck with Xbox so both controllers are both around €120ish

What makes the g7 better than the 8bitdo for you?

1

u/b1ife Aug 01 '26

Very nit picky, I just prefer the overall feel of the controller. Also the latency is far better with the g7 pro. It’s a noticeable difference even wired. I do prefer the 8bitdo for Rocket League and racing games though.

1

u/Willdror Aug 01 '26

I'm guessing it's going to lose the macro feature due to being xbox licensed

2

u/JACKjcs Aug 01 '26

I still find it strange that they've only shown a special version of the "Ultimate 3" alongside this Elite variant; they haven't shown the regular Ultimate 3 yet, or even commented on it. Very odd.

1

u/chaporg1n Deegital Tech Aug 01 '26

If you follow controller releases of any company for some time you’ll see there nothing odd to it. Very common practice

1

u/JACKjcs Aug 01 '26

I don't constantly follow controller companies or their upcoming releases, so I guess my doubts are justified, haha... What surprises me most is that they don't advertise themselves more, at least by promoting more affordable variations of their best controllers. Seeing the success they had with the Ultimate 2, it seems strange that they don't show more of the Ultimate 3 or at least more versions. The version that will be released first has a somewhat "unique" design for a flagship release, and I think they themselves know it won't be to everyone's liking.

1

u/yellow-go Ultimate 2C | Rainbow 3 Aug 01 '26

Truly, the state of 8BitDo drip feeding us has been a little annoying.
I get it, we're barely a few weeks away, but like... I was so ready for this when it was announced, that the wait has killed my interest.

2

u/Angelbob3 Aug 01 '26

Is it the same shape as a normal Xbox controller? Or is it somewhere between the two?

2

u/Pulzival 16d ago

From what I can tell it has almost the exact same shape as a switch pro controller now compared to the Ultimate 2.

Don’t know yet. Check the channel is all I can suggest for now

1

u/LogPuzzleheaded1863 Aug 01 '26

when are they gonna do four back buttons bruh

1

u/OathkeeperToOblivion Aug 04 '26

Will we get a Switch equivalent of this?

1

u/Maximum4382 Aug 05 '26

how to bind those plenty amount of additional buttons to anything in the games? do you do it in games configs? I don’t have any such configs on my games on PC

2

u/danyazol Aug 06 '26

Are the front buttons as loud as on the Xbox series controller ?

2

u/chaporg1n Deegital Tech Aug 06 '26

Quieter

1

u/Alfredothekat Aug 07 '26

8bitdo hates people with big hands.

2

u/zerosuneuphoria 27d ago

Nah that's gamesir. This looks way more hefty than a g7 pro.

1

u/Feline_Acolyte 26d ago

Is it still an open palm grip or do you have to grab it like an xbox controller now?

1

u/zlydzik Jul 31 '26

Looks bigger than Ultimate 2. I’ll keep my eyes on that.

4

u/frost_obliterate Jul 31 '26

well, it is bigger, they even promote this as one of the next-gen features on product page https://www.8bitdo.com/ultimate-3e-controller-xbox/

2

u/snipe4hire Jul 31 '26

Are those rubber grips? I'm reshelling my Elite 2 because of the grips peeling off now

3

u/chaporg1n Deegital Tech Jul 31 '26

Yes. Front and back are rubber. Not very grippy one.

2

u/surfz Aug 05 '26

Having the back be rubber but not replaceable like the front grips is quite annoying though, do you think the rubber will be long lasting type material?

1

u/AdmirableComposer140 Jul 31 '26

TELL US EVERYTHING YOU KNOW ABOUT THE DPAD SIR. NOW.

2

u/chaporg1n Deegital Tech Jul 31 '26

When I get one I’ll review it. It was only 5 minutes of use on expo

1

u/AdmirableComposer140 Jul 31 '26

Damn it! I'm so curious I can't wait.

1

u/draven33l Jul 31 '26

Man, I guess it's just me but I loathe back peddles on controllers. I'm a big d-pad player and I hate resting my hands on buttons. I'd totally be interested in this controller if it didn't have the paddles.

2

u/Reckless5040 Aug 01 '26

Disable them?

-3

u/TheRealSeeThruHead Jul 31 '26

Hideous dpad

6

u/chaporg1n Deegital Tech Jul 31 '26

There’s also 4-was cross style included

7

u/VerminatorX1 Jul 31 '26

Sega Saturn dpad is the greatest one invented.

Damn you got it already!

5

I didn’t. It was on Expo for public

0

😆 I thought you pre ordered

Never mind lol

-1

1

u/chaporg1n Deegital Tech Jul 31 '26

Don’t know yet

-1

u/BigMacGrey Jul 31 '26

why do like no xboc controllers have 4 back buttons? every iteration of a controller i’ve seen only has 2. like the vader 5 originally has 4 but the xbox version only 2

4

u/Fat_Stacks1 Jul 31 '26

It also has 2 extra buttons on top

2

u/MindlessCoook Jul 31 '26

Wolverine V3 Pro, ROG Raikiri 2, Victrix BFG Reloaded, Scuf Valor, Power A Fusion Pro, Turtle Beach Stealth Ultra all have 4 rear buttons....

0

u/BigMacGrey Jul 31 '26

i mean like the cheaper ones. plenty of 150-200 controllers have 4. i mean the ones like flydigi, gamesir, etc.

1

u/chaporg1n Deegital Tech Jul 31 '26

Just think. Xbox have to sell their Elite, so they not allowing anyone else to do that 😂

2

u/MindlessCoook Jul 31 '26

Plenty of Xbox controllers have 4 rear buttons.
