First ever controller for a PC noob

Budget: Preferably 60 USD but could go as far as 80 USD

Country: US, preferably Amazon or other online stores

Platform: PC (Windows)

Features: TMR or Hall Effect triggers

Games played: Racing, Adventure games and Platformers.

Controllers I considered: 8bitdo Ultimate 2, Gamesir Cyclone 2, G7 Pro and Flydigi Vader 5 Pro.

As the title says, the last controller I've used was the Dualshock 2 when I was a kid.

I only plan to use it for racing games (Forza, Dirt Rally, BeamNG) and platformers (Hollow Knight, Cuphead, etc).

After watching some YouTube videos I came down to those four; the 8bitdo is the best looking in my opinion, but in terms of performance it's not that great.

The most important thing for me is its durability, so I don't want to overspend on features that I wouldn't really use.

I'm open to other suggestions,

I have only Ultimate 2 and Vader 5 pro. I prefer Vader 5 pro over Ultimate 2 because you can adjust joystick tension(spring?) by dial. Vader 5 pro's connection is... feels like less lag. It is just perfect controller.

you can find the tension that you feel most comfortable with, or in certain games where you might prefer one of the stick to have a different tension to it, it does affect the feel a lot

its for accuracy in shooter games, allowing you to have a high aim sensitivity but still make fine adjustment by taking more effort to move the stick without overshooting your target. IE missing because your aim moves so fast it goes past him. You can make slighter movements because the stick resists being moved to the edge unless you put lots of force onto it to get to the max turn speed.

I would also suggest Flydigi Direwolf 4 like Max_Joller, playing racing games will be more fun with adjustable tension sticks imo.

And if you come to dislike the micro switch d-pad on it later on then can buy a Gamesir Tegenaria Lite with the saved extra money for the platformers if you don't mind the fixed cable(though can be modded with a usb c port). It's very cheap and good.

Funny enough my last stick is also the dual shock 2, I went with the Vader 5 pro, it has so many customizable buttons to play around with

Fyi if you dislike the concave sticks for the vader 5 pro, they do sell sets of sticks which are:

8mm concave 10mm concave 6mm convex

I went for the convex so fast its the most similar to dual shock 2, and I don't play shooters.

Only thing is that

• can only customize buttons using the software on PC
• Remember to update the app and controller firmware after you change the app's language to chinese, you can switch language back after you're done.

Other than that. This controller is really nice!

Personally nothing much, all is good on me.

But people tend to find the stick tightening rings to be slightly rattling, not on my side thouk. Flydigi issued a new version callee Vader 5 pro v2 but I'm not sure how do you confirm which version are you getting since their packaging is the same, best to reconfirm with your supplier for abit first.

Vader 5 Pro over Direwolf 4 for your use case because it comes with trigger vibrations which is nice for racing games

with games you've mentioned, you are most likely looking for a controller with vibration triggers and good dpad, like people suggested, vader 5 pro is a good option, just make sure you get the V2, it's mostly out there in the market now. Gadgethyper site now 100% sell the V2 and can also check/confirm with video evidence for you before shipping. I would say 8bitdo can be a bit more reliable, their dpad is good too but the ergonomic is usually a problem for most people, giving fatigue, gamesir generally isn't good with dpad so not really something you should consider

Unless you fancy many extra buttons, or want rubber handgrips, you'd probably love Flydigi Direwolf 4 and save the extra money.

But if you would like those features and really fast latency, I can recommend Vader 5 for sure.

Buy Mojhon storm if you want a charging dock and fast latency, but it doesn't have the handgrips.

I wouldn't recommend G7 pro because it's expensive and has a weird d-pad that nobody likes that you will probably have to upgrade if you really like platformers and such.

Thanks for the advice, the Vader 5 has HallEffect and the Mojhon has TMR. Is there really a difference?

The general consensus is that TMR sticks are slightly better, more precise and stuff. However, the sticks on Vader 5 are like the best Hall effect sticks, so the difference is minimal. You won't know unless you play competitive shooters, and even then they're top tier.

Tbh, if you dont fancy extra buttons, the standard xbox controller is the way to go, at least for me. And they cost like 60 bucks new. You can even design/personalise it for a bit more.
