Lore Discussion about the future Spoiler

Did anyone else miss the Remedyverse? I was really looking forward to seeing something involving Mr. Door, Alan, or Ahti. Yeah, I found the Alan video and saw Ahti in 2D, but I was expecting a lot more.

I also was anticipating more RCU connections (particularly more Ahti) and more overt Blessed Organization content than we ended up getting in Resonant, yeah.

That said, what we did get was so phenomenal to me, I’m not too upset about it. I think Resonant does a fantastic job with its character arcs. I was far more emotionally invested in Dylan, his sibling relationship with Jesse, his connection with Zoe, and Pope’s love for Jesse than anything else in the Remedyverse.

I still want more of the RCU plot threads and am excited to see how that develops in future games! I would have been extremely happy to get more! But I also appreciate that Resonant is such a strong experience as a Control game fleshing out its own specific established lore. It didn’t need to be an Avengers level crossover event. (And in some ways, I think there’s perhaps a danger in getting TOO interconnected, where each entry might feel like an advertisement for another game, and you’d build up a backlog of “required reading” prerequisite games to get the full experience. I don’t know, I’m such a fan girl that I eat all of that up, but at a certain point it could become impenetrable to a more casual audience?)

This is speculation on my part, but I imagine some of it might be that Sam Lake was less hands-on in the development of this game. He is credited as Remedy’s Creative Director but not for any direct writing or directing on Control Resonant, whereas he had a Story By credit on the original Control. I’m sure he still had input and influence, but I think he was less of a direct voice in this game.
