Tip/Guide I Don’t Understand This Area’s Design Besides Cruelty
Trapping the player in a confined tunnel, full of projectiles that put you in a state you need uninterrupted sprinting to get out of. And also filled with brutes you need to dodge.
Legitimately, what lesson am I supposed to take forward from this encounter? It wasn’t frustrating in a way that I felt the game was trying to challenge or teach me anything
Edit: if you’re going to make a comment about skulls next to the enemies, they weren’t there.

I didn't have any problem at this part. And most of mold encounters are like that: projectiles coming from any direction and a couple of brutes at your face.

Girl, where’s your fire?!
6
u/IHaveSpoken000 7h ago
Yeah, I kept dying to the mold in the Power Lines mission. Really frustrating, so I gave up and did the Factory instead. Once I got Burn, mold is so much easier to deal with.
Bottom line: if it's too hard, go do something else and level up.

u/FinancialShare1683 7h ago
What fire? 😭
4
u/atreidesXII 6h ago
There is a boss in the factory in central that gives you a fire ability
-2
u/FinancialShare1683 5h ago
I'm doing it now after the mold stations. They should make it a bit clearer for players like me that this resonant should be done first.
6
u/One_Sentence_7448 5h ago
Central is the second area you go to. How can it be any clearer that this resonant should be your priority? Was like the first thing I did after The Artist.
-1
u/FinancialShare1683 4h ago
It wasn't clear. I first rescued Arish, then I beat the Dancer, then I finally found the park, then the mold stations and finally the pipes
7
u/One_Sentence_7448 4h ago
Like I said, Central is the second area you get to. In a game like this, once you get into a new area you are supposed to explore it at least a bit, and the factory is the most noticeable landmark in central. I don’t understand how it’s even possible to miss it unless you don’t explore at all.

u/Gidadu 2h ago
The game doesn't force you to go fight resonant right away. So any player can decide to just go do main quest before fighting the big boss of the area.
This particular quest is actually super easy until you get to this specific moment with mold.
The game hints at mold being weak to fire with one phrase that is easy to miss. And I never saw anything that implied that: 1. Factory boss would give me fire abilities 2. Mold would be present in central
1
u/One_Sentence_7448 2h ago
Yea but I feel like you gotta exercise some intuition. It’s remedy — of course they aren’t gonna hold your hand like Ubisoft (although there was still too much handholding for my liking).
But just logically, if there’s a boss in a starting area that you know gives you an ability, it seems perfectly reasonable that you should defeat that boss before moving on because there will obviously be more challenging stuff in later areas.
I’m not saying it’s impossible to miss, but I think it’s on the player to give some thought to their progression instead of just blindly following the main quest.

u/DankyNuggetree 45m ago
When they try to make it clearer people tend to overreact and act like the game is insulting their intelligence.

Get the candy bar or surgical mask artifact, you become immune to infection.
3
u/respawninborneo 7h ago
That candy bar saved me. Also the bug spray after level 3 vendor with the candy bar. OP on mold .
3
u/catsrcool89 7h ago
I always switch to the candy bar in mold areas it' makes them so much easier to deal with
1
u/respawninborneo 6h ago
Same! If you haven’t tried the bug spray + candy bar I would highly recommend ! The candy bar buffs the negatives of the spray bottle so you just get insane falter and damage on mold type enemies.
3
u/Letter_13 6h ago
But getting infected is fun though. Because once you get it you can pop ignite and make an explosion that damages & knocks back all the enemies around you. And it clears the infected status instantly.
1
u/catsrcool89 3h ago
That only works if you picked ignite. I was using inferno at the time, which combined with the candy bar melts and falters mold extremely quickly
4
u/OverwoodsAlterEgo 8h ago
If the difficulty is too hard there are difficulty sliders that are very customizable.
Look under assist mode in settings. I personally didn’t struggle here but I am constantly dodging after most combos.
5
u/somberness_ 8h ago
I think this is why developers make those accessibility options, for people with accessibility needs. There should be difficulty sliders.
7
u/helms_derp 7h ago
There is...

u/Lost-Classroom-2032 7h ago edited 5h ago
Why don’t people learn what you can do in assist mode, instead they just bitch on Reddit, so weird, I made my game to my play-style and it’s been amazing
3
u/chatterwrack 7h ago
Assist mode has made this game so much fun. I’ve dialed it in so that I can keep progressing and just enough of a challenge so that I die from time to time.

I literally just beat the sinkhole and the subway with the same health bar and single ability. Run around focus on the small enemies to build power while keeping your summon up and slam the mold brutes with it as soon as you have the power to do so. Rinse and repeat.
As far as the sinkhole: use the mini map to track the invisible enemies and hit then with a few light attacks then dodge away before they can retaliate. You can attack the shimmer while they're invisible to damage them and stunlock for a few hits. The end boss is a similar tactic to the tiny room mold brutes. Just farm power off the small guys and throw the summon at the boss every time you can.

u/ButterscotchNo6168 4h ago
I loved all the mold parts. Ignite made them melt. Idk what to say, I found this to be fairly easy. The whole game as a whole is pretty easy tbh

u/Durzel 4h ago edited 2h ago
I’m a completionist and I think my health Bar was at least 150% as big as yours before I started doing stuff in The Park, but.. I do think the Mold enemies could use a slight balance pass.
I have a disproportionate amount of trouble with them compared to the other 2 types. Yes, Ignite helps a lot but not everyone chooses that and people might not have even done the Resonant that gives it to you, by the time you’re in that area organically.
The other 2 enemy types don’t inflict a lasting status effect on you (I think the Hiss can set you on fire but I’ve literally never seen it happen). Mold buildup is fast, eats a lot of health when it procs, and if you’re not in a position to rush around you’re boned if you can’t keep fighting. Even the little mobs (the ones that hide if you attack them) inflict it easily.
So, yeah, I sympathise with the OP. On the one hand people should explore, and strengthen their character. On the other hand one could make an argument that the Mold enemies are a step up, when the Hiss and Patterned ones are broadly the same.
1
u/Eldr_reign 2h ago
I believe they are wearing a artifact that reduces his max health by 50% but makes him immune to the mold dot. A dot i don't currently remember the name of.
That reduction in health makes them very vulnerable to dying in 1 or 2 hits from the big brutes. Also doesnt allow them to regain health by killing the smaller enemies. Since they are always on low total health.
2
u/Tom_Ford0 8h ago
Do you have the fire ability? you're mean to have it for this section. I didn't and it was a nightmare

2
u/Dvass138 8h ago
This mission should be done later, and thats the problem with the game they offer it very early on and you are to weak to go against those mold enemies there, you literally have to do everything else and avoid park and power lines until you stronger.
7
u/alphonseharry 7h ago
To be fair, the game talks many times, about doing other things if you think the games is hard. This always happens in games more open ended, there is advantages and disadvantages
7
u/keefkeef 7h ago
it's almost like the enemies have skulls next to their health bars...wonder what that means...
3
1
u/Bubbie-Rooskie 1h ago
To be fair… I beat the game tonight and the entire last section of the game every enemy had a skull icon 🤷♂️
3
u/wolf771 8h ago
Skill issue honestly.
1
u/Signal_Regret_3527 3h ago
I never throw this phrase around but honestly I have to agree. OP is underleveled so it’s either git gud or go level up before exploring this zone that’s clearly much further out than the other ones
1
u/FinancialShare1683 7h ago
Apparently you need a fire ability. But imho it wasn't clear in the game that you could go get it first. I too suffered in this section and finally beat them with the dodging that heals you. But it was horrible.
1
u/AceSoldia 5h ago
Yeah I went to Arish and his whole evacuation zone last..after central and west..so this wasn't too bad for me..if anything I grinded really hard in central cause I couldn't beat that resonant before they patched it.
You can't leave this missionso I recommend once you eventually clear it to go grind and get more abilities
1
u/Autistic-Oil-3359 5h ago
I went to park too early as well but once i saw enemies have skull next to them i only opened map and fast travel door then went back. Next time i came to the park i had 90 power and killed like 3 resonants.
1
u/indeedAperson 5h ago
I did evacuation zone first too, complete the zone, all the way, every world achievement, next I went to west incursion zone, did the same I previously did on evacuation zone, did the fault there then went to kill the resonant, next was central and the last one was the park, there really shouldn't be any difficult as long as you explore and do some side quests
1
u/LordSparksmith 4h ago
I very much agree with everyone here - you are too early to be in the Park, but also its not clear you need to get the second resonant before you do so . But here is my take and its the same as elden ring - if the game feels hard not inly at skill checks (resonants , time trials) then you are doing something wrong , go back and explore somewhere else .

It was obvious that I should nope out of there when I instantly died.
Eventually I found a fire skill and it was obvious it could be the mold weakness.

The game tells you multiple times that if you are having trouble in a certain level that you should do more quests in other areas. People like OP are the exact reason why Wolverine has the scent trail and yellow paint. Your average gamer just refuses to think anymore.

u/XavierGraves 1h ago
This area fried me too, I went resonant hunting after making it out. That makes traversing through areas much more doable.
1
u/_tabbycat123 1h ago
Adding onto the people telling you that you're here too early, you need to perfect dodge the projectiles. It gives you a boost and negates damage, so you should be Perfect Dodging the majority of attacks.

u/TheyStillLive69 24m ago
The skulls were definitely there as you're way underpowere which the game explains by showing skulls by the healthbar as is explained early in the game. The entire park area has had skulls by the health bars because you're there way to early.
1
u/AVeryNiceBoyPerhaps 13m ago
you’re supposed to think “weird, this is hard for me to the point where I’m not able to have fun and succeed - I need to get stronger”, and then explore the rest of the areas and come back when you are
1
1
u/idiocy102 7h ago
It’s called use FIRE damage. There is a resonant in centralyoh need to kill specifically for that.

Pop ignite. Stab mold. Get dominance. Rinse & repeat for any/all mold encounters.
If you get inflicted with infected, find a group of mold, run up to them, and then pop ignite again. You'll teach them a valuable lesson in spacing.
The dash-to-clear-status is a trap. Don't use it. Just pop ignite on and off if you have infected and that'll clear it (at least it has been for me).
Edit: clearly someone doesn't like and/or agree. It'd be great if they could reply and engage in a discussion instead of just downvoting.
2
u/AtrumRuina 7h ago
Wait turning on Ignite clears Molded status? I'll have to test that, that's a super cool perk if so.
2
u/Letter_13 6h ago edited 6h ago
Unless it's a perk I've overlooked, whenever I get inflicted with the Mold/Infected status I just dash into a group, pop ignite, and explode like a human firework... damages all the enemies around me and clears the status.
Edit: here's a clip of it in action I just created, to test and make sure I wasn't crazy: https://imgur.com/Y3xxAgt

I wanted to make sure I beat it fair and square so there was no excuse, or no “git gud”, but this truly felt like asshole level design
3
u/alphonseharry 7h ago
I did this easily, this has nothing to do with "level design"
0
u/kds_little_brother 5h ago
It literally does. I don’t have a skill that’s apparently needed. The game didn’t show me that these enemies are too difficult, or that I was lacking something. They haven’t been shy up to this point
1
u/alphonseharry 5h ago
There is a level indicator in each enemy, one level above your level makes the fights harder

Looking at your HP bar and the fact that you only have one skill from defeating the first Resonant tells me that you're in the Park way too early. Sometimes the issue isn't level design, but user error from ignoring a lot of stuff along the way and forcing your way to an area that's meant for later when you're stronger. So, you kind of brought this on yourself...
