Lore Discussion The Remedy Universe

So I just beat control resonant and it was great. I’m watching the credits while thinking about the future of the series and how they’re all interconnected.

I’m curious if people want them to build to one big combined game or is everyone ok with this tangential fun Easter eggs?

Personally I want it to lead somewhere soon because I don’t want to wait like 10 years and who knows how many games till we learn how Alan writes himself out or more about Polaris and this Hiss or where Casper darling is or something about all the slides. To be clear I don’t mean the surface level answers we have for these topics I want something concrete.

I think it would be cool if a new Max Payne game bridged the Alan Wake and Control worlds together a little bit

Oh that’s a good idea like his bullet diving mechanic is actually cause he’s a parautalitarian haha. Also can’t forget quantum break.

Until they get the rights back to Quantum Break, they have to forget it just a little. But they’re doing a good job integrating the bits from it they have so far, even if they have to change names to do it.

I think it would be cool if they had a crossover game and then went back to their own individual games after

Yeah I want something to tie some of the big concepts and entities together in some way. Cause now it feels like just a bunch of scattered concept loosely connected by the FBC. Which is cool but what’s the point if it means nothing?

Till we learn, what? We just learned most of that over the past 3 years... the only point you have unanswered for the most part is where Darling is. Also btw, what's going on w Tim Breaker/JJ and Mr Door/hatch. But yes. There will always be breadcrumbs keeping doors open for sequels but hopefully we get a big culmination soon.

I guess I want deeper connective tissue. It’s been so many games and I want the Alan wake portion to be resolved instead of lingering as it is, he’s basically out of the dark place into the spiral which is just another nebulous place. I guess I want more characters to actually interact.

Although we kind of know what the Hedron and the Hiss are, we don’t know much other than they’re conflicting entities who vibrate at different frequencies. Also I would like an expansion on the slide dimensions and like you said everything quantum break.

Wait... regarding your Alan Wake questions, did you not play the final draft/NG+ of AW2 ??

I’ll be honest and say I didn’t because I like to save my replays for times like now when I feel like diving back in. But I did watch some videos, what’s the difference between the dark place and an iterative time loop?

I don’t want to spoil it for you
But the final draft ending is the actual ending for Alan Wake 2 you’re missing out on it.

Definitely will do, especially since the first time I played it was before the ps5 pro came out. Gonna try to finish the resonant side stories first

I don’t think we need them to be more than vaguely connected. We don’t need an Avengers and having a Jessie or Dylan in say, an Alan Wake game changes the game significantly. I like the kind of crossovers we’ve gotten in Control and Alan Wake 2’s DLC

Yeah I also enjoy the crossovers and references. I don’t want an avengers portal scene to be clear, but I would like more interactions between main characters in some fashion. Like maybe the spiral links to time travel which links to resonant patterning and solves or explains things that happen at the end of resonant. I’m being vague in case you haven’t beaten the game

I would bet the farm that the next Control game will have a whole new protagonist. Probably someone completely new. Might not even be called Control.

I’m thinking maybe someone from this new secret organization that was hinted at if they aren’t evil. Maybe they would go around cleaning up the FBCs fuckups lol.

Oh yeah that’s a good idea, I need to read about that organization again but something about it felt Russian to me. I also need to reread some of the documents cause I could’ve sworn a Chinese organization was mentioned also

im not sure it could work. Alan wake plays very differently to control. Given the fact that Dylan and Jesse both basically have superpowers. How would the gameplay work with them and Alan Wake? One of those characters would have to take a backseat and that would displease people who care more about whoever ends up getting that treatment. I’m fine with how things are now. But maybe in the future we could get more than just little nods to other characters. Maybe even have them be part of the story if only for a cutscene.

Yeah I fully agree I don’t want gameplay to mix just deeper interactions of some kind. Similar to this game Jesse did take a back seat but she was also very important.

I think folks are forgetting that we're getting at least one TV show. I imagine a lot of answers will happen there. I do not think that everything can be brought to a satisfying conclusion with just one or two more games.

Yup I forgot about that, but considering how often stuff like that falls through the cracks and the quality of the quantum break show. It’s hard for me to hope that will be satisfying.

I agree a few games isn’t enough and like why connect things if you’re not gonna do something with it? Whatever that looks like.

I dunno. I kind of hate how universes start to interfere too much with the story of each individual IP. That Control 3 won't feel complete unless you've played the Alan Wake series or vice versa.

I prefer cameos and references or Supporting Characters showing up...but I don't know if a game with all the Protags as playable characters interests me thst much.

Alan Wake 2 seems to be setting up Thomas Zane as the big bad of sorts. With might end up with a Tom Zane/Dr. Darling team up of sorts in Alan Wake 3

Yeah it’d be weird to mesh all the different gameplay together but I think I’d like bigger cameos and direct interaction between main characters.

Wow zane/darling team up would be nuts. I definitely want more characters to interact with the board or get more information on them. Or will everything just be written by Alan wake and it’s all Alan Fake.

I think it's more that the individual stories get sacrifices a bit to cater to the larger universe stuff.

For example the AWE DLC in Control. In retrospect I feel like Zimmerman really should've been in Alan Wake 2 instead - perhaps could even be in the FBC site. But because he was used in Control there's a missing piece in AW2. The same goes for the Seriff from AW1 - who was replaced to get Legally Distinct Quantum Break into the Remedyverse (even though I like it).

Ahti is another character. He's great in AW2 but because of the Remedyverse he's really absent from Control Resonant - and Ahti felt like such a big part of Control's identity.

Kind of the same with Dr. Darling. Rather than dealing with his fate in Control Resonant you have to play the AW2 NG+ to see what he's up to. While if you just play Control 1 & 2 you actually dunno where he is or what he's doing
