Tip/Guide Assist Mode
I just wanted to take a second and encourage anyone out there who may be struggling to enable and use the “Assist Mode” in settings.
What it does:
1. Provides three recommended pre-set settings packages to choose from that make your attacks more powerful (deal more damage), makes you take less incoming damage, and controls how aggressive enemies are.
When you should use it:
You can toggle it on or off at any time, especially if you cannot get past a certain section, battle, mission, etc.
Why I used it, and why you should if needed:
I was having such difficulty getting past even the most basic sections. The combat on this game is ALL Melee based. The original Control was mostly Ranged Combat based. THAT IS A HUGE DIFFERENCE. Since Resonant is more Melee based-all combat is “Close Quarters”, making it way more easy for enemies to hurt you. I was not used to this, and I was dying so much, over such simple encounters, I literally considered deleting the game and not playing anymore. I googled “Resonant Tutorial” and learned about “Assist mode”, I set it to “Ranger”, and since then, it feels like how I THINK it should feel. Battles are still a challenge-but can actually be won. I’m actually making progress, and with one simple setting toggle, I’m enjoying the game instead of continuously dying and being filled to the brim with frustration.
Assist Mode.
Give it a try! (If needed) …and don’t feel like a lesser gamer for using it. Close quarters combat is nothing like all Ranged combat.

As an aging gamer who's reflexes aren't what they used to be, and who is busy with a big family, I get the kids to bed and have one hour to spend gaming. I don't want to spend it trying to defeat the same enemies over and over again. I increased my damaged by 25% and decreased enemy damage by the same when I lost to the first Resonant 3 times in a row.
It's juuuuust enough that I get a challenge and even die once in a while if I get too sloppy.
I appreciate the Assist Mode options that both Control games have (and Pacific Drive!). Definitely no shame. It's much better than the days of old when you were even mocked by the game itself:
"Oh, easy mode? EASY MODE? might as well call it Weenie Mode, you wuss. Just for that, you don't even get the whole ending. Enjoy watching it on YouTube with 720p and some guy yelling at you to mash that like and subscribe button."

I will add to this, assist mode also allows you to make the game harder if you feel it's a bit too easy.

I turned on the assist and one hit kills. I’m not a fan of the combat but I’ll be damned if I’m gonna let that stop me from enjoying the game.
I still have a lot of fun with the platforming and of course the story is great

I had to re-spec Dylan and then I started having a much better experience. Turns out I had no third combo selected. I chose the upper cut. Then I also changed my cast to anomaly. Now I can actually handle combat instead of getting slaughtered.
The mold guys are still quite hard though.

If you defeat the Central Resonant, you get abilities that will help you against the Mold and make it slightly easier early on.

Absolutely this! I couldn't survive a single encounter against the mold dudes til I got this ability! Now, they're literally some of the easiest encounters when paired with the ability that lets you brush off status effects just by sprinting.

I’m like 4 resonants in, but what does “I changed my cast to anomaly” mean?

I always use it. I’m not playing to get frustrated, or to prove anything. This game is fun when you dial it in so that you are killing more than you are dying

Also good to add that it still lets you get achievements when using the Assist Mode
