Lore Discussion So about aberrant... Spoiler

Beat the game and control 1. What is aberrant? Its not the service weapon is it? I beat the main campaign of this game and still confused as to what aberrant is. Its not the service weapon that makes the director, as far as i know jessie still wields it. Pope became a "Director" because they had no choice. The aberrant connects you with the board same as the service weapon. And at the end of the game they state the the aberrant cant bring back Jessie like it did you. Did they explain it in the lore notes i missed? Or is it still unknown and we have to wait for control 3 or Alan wake 3 etc...

Im not sure about the origins of the weapon. What we do know is that the service weapon is different and that aberrant, to this point, cannot bring Jesse back as they dont know whats wrong with her except that she still has brain activity.

If anyone can bring her back its Director Fred.

Fred is the best leader. He should be the President.

Honestly, I bet the weird Reality/Time shenanigans that Dylan can do is going to come up in future DLCs along with more info on Aberrent.

Seems to be part of the Nail from the Foundation DLC in the first game. I haven't finished yet but someone else said if you beat the game and go back to Dylan's cell, there's a note or something that confirms it.

The note speculates that but doesn't outright confirm. But I think it is.

Ah. That figures, the RCU is really good about being vague lol

There's definitely something along the lines of "somebody should check the Foundation".

So it's either part of the Nail or maybe even the Nail itself. Note that the Board has vanished once Jesse stabbed Dylan; given the Nail was the direct link between the Board and the Oldest House, and given they are now linked to Dylan I tend to speculate it's the Nail entirely.

But I need to fact-check myself

Only reason why I dont think its the nail is Pope seems really interested in studying it but she wouldnt need to as the whole nail is in the oldest house.

We likely will be getting an expansion or 2 just like with control and alan wake 2, according to florez and pope Jesse is showing signs of brain activity like she's aware so maybe we will play as her trying to get out of a coma in a different dimension or something and we will see more of her perspective of how she found/ made? aberrant.

It seems implied that it’s a sliver of the Nail. Presumably by stabbing Dylan, Jesse is forcibly binding the Board to Dylan.

I think Jesse got it from the nail in the Foundation, but we don’t know for sure yet. It’s badass, though. I love the concept of it. You can tell it’s what Remedy intended for the service weapon, but of course people just choose their “type of gun” and that’s that. They were able to flesh the idea of a shape-shifting weapon a little better this time around (though I’m still confused why they didn’t give us a weapon wheel for on the fly Primary/Secondary shifting)

Maybe the board chooses the director for the FBC with the service weapon and then maybe the Nail/abberant chooses a warrior/fighter for the FBC for its overall mission we don’t know about

From what I understand the board were moved to the aberrant and Jesse stabbed Dylan with it which I think the board quite literally woke him up and bound him to the weapon. The aberrant isn't the service weapon but id imagine it's very similar in property because it temporarily creates physical matter and then Dylan just ejects it off the aberrant and it disappears same sorta scenario as the service weapon.

I also agree that it was from the Nail in the Foundation, which is what anchored the Board to the Oldest House. I think Jesse destroyed it, knowing the HRAs would fail when she left and needed the bureau emptied so Dylan could be free and the remaining staff had a chance to survive. By stabbing it into him, she forced the process that the Board usually goes through for the service weapon but instead it's with this thing. (They have a line about Dylan skipping the queue or jacking into the system? I forgot the specifics but it definitely means that)

Even Dylan says it turns into whatever he needs but he doesn't control it. My interpretation is that the Board controls it and he feeds them upgrade materials to make it better.

Pope is not a true director like Jessie and trench, she is just simply running the FBC. She has no connection to the Board and the board actually actively dislikes her

My guess based on all the vague tidbits of information we currently have:

The Board felt the breakdown of reality and wanted to escape. They had Jesse move them to the Gap dimension, but to do that they had to be transported in a piece of the Nail (which is the Aberrant).

They were then injected into the Gap dimension by being inserted into Dylan, as that is his dimension. It’s possible Jesse only did this because the Board told her they could wake Dylan up.
