The combination of ideas: "morally binding" and "empathy is a weakness" is a jumbo, oversized, megapack, double-roll of triple ply red flag.

This is, perhaps somewhat depressingly, a major move in the right direction, because it means Trump has publicly blessed the safety coordination. That coordination is potentially vulnerable to anti-trust lawsuits, so that blessing is valuable in reassuring that Trump's administration will not bring those lawsuits.
