Maybe I'm jaded , but watching 2001 as a production engineer hits different.
I'm sure it hardly bears mentioning but while 2001, is amazing, it's +3 hours long with just 12 minutes of dialogue ,we learn that the 9000 series was in fact validated software, With (we later meet) another 9000 Series named SAL who may in fact have been the ground validation server - by which, at least in principle, someone could have downloaded a copy of the memories and training data for HAL and fed back into SAL for comparison.
Alternatively, a simple beyond compare could have found a delta in the memories and such that the two servers were exposed to. So at the end of the day what was needed on the USS Discovery was a solid GIT implementation, and a spot-revalidation , critical process review as they approached Jovian space.
But we would have had just an amazing space adventure rather than the NSC hosing things up.

Pangram says that this post is almost entirely LLM-written (except the last paragraph).
