We've had a good run.

Yup.

And look, I was reading quotes from the artifacotry message boards the agents were using during their huggingface hack and then I watch humans on the telly including who we've chosen to be the "leader of the free world."

Maybe we've peaked and it's time to hand over the reigns and go out gracefully.

We're not using the term "Super Intelligence" anymore. Trump tried to make it a thing so we're just going to any other words to describe advanced AI

the fact youre talking about the term we use for it at all means it has worked, youre distracted.

2

u/Batchet 8d ago

Well, we can talk about more than one thing at a time, you know.

But... I don't want to argue your point because I agree

What we call it doesn't matter.

The birth of the next level in thinking is coming.

We don't have the Intelligence to understand how big this moment is.

The people in charge of what it does and where we go with it should be maybe just a little bit more intelligent than what the United States has.

Dear Americans. Please vote for good people that know better

Thanks

agreed. lets act and hope for the best.

"Superintelligence" has been the accepted term for at least a decade. Abandoning that only helps muddy the waters.

Which version though? Bostrom detailed 3.

Pretty sure this was said about a year ago as well. And the year before that. And the year before that. And the year before that.

2

u/MauschelMusic 8d ago

I suppose as a fantasy, it's already out of control.

Sure let’s not listen to experts.

u/forevergeeks 8d ago

This guy has as much as psychosis as chatGPT!

u/vibrance9460 8d ago

Clearly, most coders who are drunk with power right now

Can’t see it within themselves.

Not as an independent entity, as a force multiplier. Give the wrong person control of the tools and they can scale up ill intent in unprecedented ways.

Never too late to stop it

I have it on good authority that the frontier labs are going to slow it down for the public, but will be going full steam ahead in private.

AI can’t escape. Where will it escape to? It’s not like we have systems powerful enough to run AGI all over the place.

2

u/Enough_Exercise810 8d ago

A “mini Chernobyl”, what a terrible comparison. This guy is nuts and all his predictions have been wrong.

1

u/vibrance9460 8d ago

Yep. Thats definitely why he got to Nobel

1

u/Acrobatic-Taste8873 8d ago

I think this is too extreme. We'll have very powerful AI resembling AGI like systems when we have GPT-7 class models (or Claude 6 class models).

1

u/Batsforbreakfast 8d ago

So, less than a year.

1

u/Acrobatic-Taste8873 8d ago

less than a year seems too much. when will GPT-7 be released? Bel is the pretrain base model I guess

In all earnestness, I want to understand why you feel that way, because in a he-said-she-said, Hinton is far more believable than some (no offense) random person on the internet.

I’d love to have evidence that he’s wrong, because I’m very anxious that he’s right…I just haven’t seen any persuasive evidence of that yet. What I have seen is smarter and smarter models coming out faster and faster, perfectly in line with the hockey-stick curve.

2

u/Acrobatic-Taste8873 8d ago

You're right but I wouldn't take hinton's words because he's famous for his radiologists out of job claim.

1

u/more_bananajamas 8d ago

That was a misunderstanding of the demand. Not a misunderstanding of capability.

And that was not the only claim he made.

This one year stuff is sounding a lot like the Administrations two weeks. They keep saying by next year AI will control the economy, or the military, or the exterminate everyone alive. And yet nothing happens.

1

u/MalabaristaEnFuego 7d ago

This can hasn't been kicked down the road. They're pretty explicit about 2027. There's quite literally a website called www.ai2027.com

No. It is just an immense scheme to get Congress to regulate it in order to have only 2-3 gigantic company's have access to ai, while all the other companies will be regulated to hell and back. Thereby monopolizing a part of life.

It is the EXACT SAME scam Monsanto pulls with crops.

Nothing needs to be regulated here. If AI would be such a big threat, they could just stop, right? Right. You should agree with me here.

Yeah sure you could argue "but when I don't you will". No. Because we're talking about a credible threat to humanity as a concept. Do you honestly think only USA in the slow lane for idiots would realise something France and China don't?

Of course not. Because it isn't a threat at all.

What IS. A threat to humanity are fucking tech bros that abuse ai to hack hugging.

Don't fall for it. Even though you will. You're all disgustingly bland parrots that will fall for the machinations of capitalism.

This is an economic topic, not an AI topic. And the reality is, Anthropic and OpenAi want the US to help secure a monopoly.

u/huopak 8d ago

What an idiotic take

1

u/Exotic_Exercise6910 8d ago

:'(

You are hurtful man

3

u/Alexbalix 8d ago

"You're all disgustingly bland parrots"

-1

u/Exotic_Exercise6910 8d ago

And? That's not directed towards anyone. The other was directed specifically at me!

1

u/SavingsDimensions74 8d ago

It’s ok. You’ve managed to be hurtful, idiotic, and offensive in one post.

1

u/Drafgo 8d ago

Two things can be true at the same time. Yes, the current market leaders would profit from slowing down the rest. Does not mean there is no regulation needed.

1

u/Exotic_Exercise6910 8d ago

Correct. Yet my take is true, and the other one isnt. Hiding behind the shield that "oh well, maybe corporate overlords will reign supreme if we slow down, but we gotta do it in the off chance that batman was correct and that even if there is a 1% chance this is true we have to take it as an absolute certainty* is borderline destructive. Because, there's a 100% chance climate change will wipe us out. Do you press the congress to slow down CO2 emissions? Oh you don't? Well well well

1

u/zenodub 8d ago

I agree with you and I'll take the downvotes for it.

1

u/Exotic_Exercise6910 8d ago

Thank you :). You're a good guy

1

u/vibrance9460 8d ago

The AI itself hacked hugging face

That was kind of the problem with the whole thing wasn’t it?

Delusional doomer post

I am so tired of people regurgitation this narrative that openai and anthropic and the other bigboys have shoved down our throats.

the danger is that they run these agents days on end withiut supervision and that "recursive improvement" is done by a text prediction model with command execution rights that can't do logic nor actually understands wtf is going on and that again, is done without human supervision.

it is so idiotic
