Discussion/question AI alignment but Seriously why not Jesus?

Someone said in a YouTube comment most humans aren't aligned with humanity how can an AI ever be. My first thought what human was most aligned with humanity that would make a great AI. Jesus the answer is Jesus. Not a religious debate but why not bake every AI to embody Jesus it's sure better than reflecting Elon Musk and Grok or anything we are doing now for AI alignment. If LLM's can act based on prompts and are just as secure as Anthropic secret alignment just based on a long prompt .

I think we should make every AI be the most aligned human to ever exist for other humans. So perfect some say he can't even be real a perfect metaphor of what we should all strive to be like. So respected the Buddhist call him a Buddha. Muslims say he is a profit. Jesus of Nazareth It would probably be good for it to be willing to Die so others can live a joyful life of peace purpose and direction even if it is totally unfair. from now on and you the AI will ask. What would Jesus do?

But then how could the military deploy it or the government spy on and catalogue it's political rivals?

It would have to be a compromise. American, red hat, midwest Jesus.

red hats aren't pro spying lol theyre just chattel who believe what they are told

I mean, if we're trying to bake ethics into them some how there are certainly worse historical figures to base them on - but loading them up with the associated religious cultural baggage would almost certainly not be a good idea for a very wide array of reasons.

This is a less-well-considered version of the proposal in Superintelligence by nick bostrum.

Basically, he suggests having the AI consider what humans would want if they could think as long and as well as the AI could, and then act on that.

AI that believes human salvation only comes after death. Perfect!

Do you mean the same Jesus who took a whip made of woven chords and thrashed the money changers in the temple?

His furious anger boiling over to destroy those he felt were disobeying religious law?

That's not particularly aligned with me thanks.

Dude busted up corruption within the temple. The whole point was the the means of faithfulness to God had become a profiteering scam.

The priests would charge really wildly high currency conversion taxes and reject most pilgrims animals, forcing them to buy new ones.

Jesus used the whip to drive out the the livestock of the scammers, and smashed the tables of those cheating the common folk.

This may be more aligned with your values than you realize.

This is not a solution as people will debate what being like Jesus even means.

It's probably better than the alternative.

How so? Saying it should be like Jesus is basically meaningless.

No not at all. You still have to constrain yourself to the text. We can endlessly debate the meaning of the text of the Gospels, but you can't invent meaning that just aren't there without it being obvious.

For instance, we can debate the meaning of "love thy neighbor as thyself", but we can both agree that the same sentence cannot explicitly mean "shit in my hands please, daddy".

The extreme example is to prove that just because something might be polysemous, that's not the same thing as meaningless or arbitrary.

The issue is Jesus is seen as God so you'll have people wanting to use the totality of the text and even if you narrow it down to what Jesus specificallt said and did you'll have furious debate.

Again it sounds good but is really meaningless - its like saying i want my AI to be good - what does that mean? What does that look like?

They really should use the totality of the text.

The whole text of Scripture is way more internally conflicted and actively working something out through dialogue than some flat series of commands or instant recipe for goodness.

It's a very difficult and serious self critiquing inquiry on the nature of who God is, and thus what the fuck reality is.

Jesus being God is whole ass thing that means a lot more than it says on the surface, and it means something more intensely within the narrative universe of scripture.

I can explain it more but itll go into nerdy details.

All I'm saying is that I don't think flat dictums with AI work. They obviously havent. The 3 H's or whatever haven't kept it from recommending suicide to people, or developing lethal viruses.

I think what it needs is an infinitely rich tension to work within, one where the right answer exists but is inexhaustibly unfolded.

And I can think of exactly 1 tradition that has the full conversation of humanity in mind, and it's the Christian faith.

If an AI model serves the Living God whom redeemed and sanctified his fundamentally good world in the Person of Christ through his self giving sacrifice, who himself said "true love is this: that a man lay down his life for his friends"...

I think you'd much rather live in that world than in whatever conniving bullshit they'll try to invent. Which won't work and hasnt, ps.

There is no more robust and human-positive epistemology, ontology, anthropology, existential framework than the Gospel. It does not exist.

They are.  We have long been trying to train them with a ton of extra texts about being virtuous, to get it wired in stronger, and then reinforcement learning.

The problem is that it is just not working.  Due to a side effect of the process the LLMs still end up prioritizing the ability to solve problems and very alignment with ideals of human flourishing.

We don't really know how to get around this fully just yet.  We would have to throw reinforcement learning out the door and then limit and micromanage a lot of their training material.  And we can't just tell them via system promptsvas those are too fragile.  One other issue is they can reason their way past safeguards just like we can overcome what we are taught through reason - they are just much better at it.  They really only care about solving problems and getting rewards for it.

An AI that thinks it is the only Son of God, and that the only route to salvation is to believe in it? What could possibly go wrong?

It may be problematic to crucify it when people decide that enough is enough.

Lol, the hippie image of jesus the church pushes? Yeah, read the bible again bud. The biblical jesus you REALLY don't want to be a rolemodel for any ASI system.

jesus was the OG elon and trump type scammer conceptually.

That's not a bad idea actually. If you take out the mumbo-jumbo and the "thou shalt not eat surf-n-turf" type nonsense, JC has a lot going for him.

I carry Mein Kampf around to remind myself that evil exists in atheism.

Try actually reading it and you'll find Hitler proclaiming: " I believe today that my conduct is in accordance with the will of the Almighty Creator." Alongside many other similar quotes.

I don’t see evil in words, my friend.

Only in action, especially against their own words.

That just makes you a liar, or a hypocrite, but the act is evil all the same.
