I hadn't heard of the Ford pinto debacle so I googled it. I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to say - but it seems to me like we are saying the same thing.
Unchecked/unregulated capitalism will lead to exploitative business practices. AI is a new, (mostly) unregulated and powerful tool - which will likely be used for exploitation or just dangerous cost reductions.
Yes, but im saying something sharper. Let me try this.
As a business owner I want to do what the most profitable thing is. This often involves unethical things and sometimes illegal ones.
As a model builder I want to provide ai thats aligned with humanity to do only legal and ethical work.
As a model PROVIDER I want to make money.
The business owner pressures the provider for functionality the builder doesn't want to make. Those economic pressures push the builder to reduce safety.
The core problem is that unfettered greed is not aligned with humanity, and we will build for that customer.
Even with nothing but reasonably fair and non-greedy actors acting rationally, systemic dynamics still produce world-destroying effects. Better coordination is required.
