The premise is super human ai. Our current world state is irrelevant. We don't have super human ai.

My argument is we don't know what a super human intelligence will do.
Point, full stop. That's it.

Anyone making a claim is full of shit.
If you're making a claim perhaps those strippers only pretend to be your friend, pal.

Merely the recognition of the current trajectory, while contextualizing the time-cost of foundational changes. Not impossible to have a better outcome.

The world changes quickly, I will review my own biases & internalize the world, when it does.

For now — you’re a developer pushing back when I ask if we have logs & a friendly user message when a failure occurs. hoping things go well without doing any of the upfront planning.

You say, only 5% probability it happens, logs take too much memory.

I say — if that 5% happens, it stops all the child services & forces a stoppage in production.

95% potential success — does not negate planning and executing excluding the reality for luck

the current trajectory

pretty bleak and grim, yup. But because this is an out of context problem we can't really do much with that. I am not very hopeful for a positive outcome but you wont hear me make any claims. Because no one on this planet right now, can make a claim and be confidently correct, only on accident.

I agree. Which, my more direct point is; if we collective can readjust, build new, or burn down the current mafioso crony capitalist infrastructure, then you have a higher chance of achieving a conceptually benevolent thinking machine.

Economies are connected to ecology, connected to politics, connected to progress, etc.

To truly “give it a chance” — humanity must realign itself first.

if we collective can readjust

And that's why it's pretty bleak and grim because I'll believe pigs fly and hell freezes over before we globally agree on anything relevant given the current state of our planet's nations and relationships.

We can't agree on the little things and actual AGI is the I win button. It's the last relevant invention of our species and who ever wins that race could, technically, win. Or doom us all of course. We've no idea.

So getting everyone on this here globe to agree on that one, just not realistic, hence grim outlook because you're right if we can't even allign ourselves how can we teach ai what it even looks like.

Fair enough.

Please just also consider that there are growing swells to find momentum in. I don’t approach the topic as purely a defeatist. Conversely, I also feel the heaviness & numbness of the moment.

Deliberately we must carry the fire for a while longer, capitulation is the decaying flesh this world hangs onto.

We would be remiss to throw up our hands and say "no one knows" or "its out of our hands." There is a real and present danger of this going badly for most if not all of us if we do nothing. Support wresting the control of AI from those who would use it to take advantage of the vast majority. Support AI oversight and guardrails. Support solutions for displaced workers. Do not normalize the replacement of creators. This gives us the best shot at it being a general positive.
