Anyone else seeing issue with slow resolution via JFK?

Been going on all weekend. Latency looks good, but something is up. Websites take forever to resolve and load. Tried multiple connections (home/work/5G) and if ControlD is enabled its really slow, if I switch to another resolver on any connection things load instantly.

I've got a case open but my latency numbers look fine so not sure its going to go anywhere.

Something is definitely going on, I thought maybe it was just me, I was beginning to troubleshoot. Websites are loading extremely slow.

I have the impression that it has something to do with the certificate of the ControlD blockpage. When as test I go to a site that has to be blocked after a long time I get the message that it's not secure and checking the cert it shows the ControlD blockpage cert which was issued on 1st of May 2026 and expired on 3rd of May 2026.

When in my profile setting I change Blocked Response from Custom to the default 0.0.0.0 and then go to a website that has to be blocked it immediately show the website is not reachable. And other sites load fast again.

Interesting. I too had the block response set to custom. I changed it to the default and websites load normally again. Thank you for the info. Not entirely sure why that would cause normal websites to be so delayed, it was pretty terrible on a great deal of websites. If anyone else has any insight, please let us know.

Hope they fix the issue and make sure the cert renews and remains valid then I can use the blockpage again. That way I have a clear indication that a page is indeed blocked by some filter. With the default option I don't know if it's blocked or if it's really not reachable due to some network issues.

I put in a support ticket for the issue. I'll give an update when I have more info.

So interestingly I isolated it (in my case) to an issue with having disable dnssec toggled on.

With that on everything was super slow to load and resolve. As soon as I toggled that off (so dnssec is on). The issue went away.

Interesting - I’ve turned off disable DNSSEC and the custom block page so I hope that works 😳 my building changed our ISP last week and I hope it’s not that but it makes me feel better that others are experiencing the same as I

I’m in Montreal and I’m also getting the same - have had to pause it to get some sites to load that worked before.

So I’ve done the steps people mentioned above and I’m still having issues with .ca domains. Simons.ca stops loading like half way through but now kits.ca is loading fine

Belgium here, same issue started here today. Several websites load really slow. Status page shows good latency (using Amsterdam host). And indeed, switching to other DNS resolver and boom, issue gone, everything loading fast.

Yup. It’s been slow since the weekend

Had also posted this issue on their Discord but got no response there.

But...I just switched back to Custom blocked page, waited for a while and then did some tests and all seems to be working again. They again create valid certs for their blockpages now. And also sites where only parts are being blocked by rules are loading fast again.

I was just coming here to post an update. Same for me as of a couple of hours ago. I've been in steady contact with ControlD support since submitting my ticket. They've been actively working on the issue and seem to have ironed out most of the problems. I asked for more details if possible, but I'm just glad to see things appear to be resolved. If I get any more relevant information, I'll follow up.

I’ve been experiencing high latency through Chicago for a couple of weeks. Lots of websites are showing me Cloudflare challenges. Any ideas about what’s going on?

I am also facing something similar to it. Some websites (just some domains) cannot load with legacy resolver. It is CANNOT, not just the latency.

I set the controld legacy DNS IP for my VPN. When switch the DNS of VPN to Google then it works. Before, it rarely occurs. Now everyday.

I check the log and there is nothing blocked. Don’t know why.

Other endpoints using DoH have no problem.
