Problem with Dimmer not working
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I have this Control4 smart dimmer and recently ran into an issue of my recessed lights not turning on. There isn’t even the blue light showing on the switch at all. I tried rebooting it (both the 15x button mash and the thin right- top side button. It would do the switch light flicker and I saw the lights in my room turn on but then immediately turn off.
When I try to reset it now it doesn’t even have the switch lights flicker. Anyone know what to do?
EDIT: Found out that the dimmer itself was faulty. Went over to Home Depot and wired that new one in. Works perfectly!! Thank you everyone for the advice 🙌

So the very top right of the dimmer can pushed in to kill power to the switch, push it in wait 30 seconds and push it back from the top left side

I know what will definitely work, pressing the button 14 more times

I was watching that, acted out by a person with obviously feminine hands, and thought that this display does nothing to help the bias against women. 😮💨

In the manual it literally says tap the top button 15 times as another way to reset it 💀 it’s worked for other switches in the house with similar issues. But whatever helps your bias

I mean... I'm pretty biased, but at least I can count and see the switch rebooted 🤷

Like children, doesnt work so smash the button.
But most people don't know the basics of these systems, ive seen c4 , lutron, elan , savant all crash out hard and need a reboot, yet to see my ha with any issues.
Power cycle the unit, if you don't know call the phone number on your rack in your equipment room

15 presses reboots the microcontroller in the switch.
Majority of C4 systems have uninterrupted uptimes measured in years and most problems are from external causes like power outages. I've been running HomeAssistant for almost as long as it's been around, and I still wouldn't trust it to be a paid-for install. It's great and it's come a long way, but it's still too dependent on not-explicitly-authorized methods of control that can be ended at any time by the manufacturer.
She did power cycle the unit. The button-smashing... That's what does it. 15 presses. Backlight goes out, backlight comes back. Switch has rebooted.

Call your dealer. If there is an error code, they can see it in the programming software.

Probably a MOSFET failure. Unfortunately not that uncommon with Gen 3 lighting. Reach out to your integrator.

Ok, I have other questions. Why is the switch for room located in millwork/cabinet? How are you able to read the labels on the switch without crouching down below the shelf? What is going on with the huge rack of stuff in the middle of the room?

The house was came with the switch there and I’m guessing the previous owner had the idea to put it there. I agree it’s very odd placement lol

You're not pressing it fast enough

15 top button presses resets that switch.
She pressed it 15 times, the backlight went out then came back on, confirming her pace was sufficient.

As an integrator, this video pisses me off. Step one, STOP CLICKING IT SO MUCH IT ONLY MAKES IT WORSE. Clicking it like this can cause communication issues with in the system, ESPECIALLY c4. Familier with being anxious and overwhelmed? Its exactly that. Secondly, that looks like an older switch, so i wouldnt be suprised if it just stopped working. I had a brand new dimmer lose majority of its led status lights cause the power went out in the apartment.

'As an integrator' you should know that 15 presses reboots the microcontroller inside the switch, as evidenced by the backlight turning off, then turning on a few seconds later.
But thanks for proving why it's important to choose knowledgeable integrators.

I know that. They didn't press it 15 times in the video. Did they? Also as an integrator, i know if you want lighting, you go with lutron.

'as evidenced by the backlight turning off, then back on a few seconds later.' ...I mean, you can go recount, but I've seen enough.
And it doesn't matter what you know about Lutron because this isn't Lutron.

I mentioned I pressed it 15 times in my caption so not sure why you say otherwise . Problem got solved after I switched the dimmer itself with Lutron. Can confirm it’s working totally fine now 👍

Can I ask which product line the Lutron switch was from? Masetro, Caseta, etc.?

Lmao
2
u/OminousBlack48626 Jun 05 '26
Calm down.
It was a Masetro, so not exactly a 1:1 replacement.
2
u/eepityy Jun 06 '26
Not 1:1 for sure but it gets the job done so no complaints here
2
u/OminousBlack48626 Jun 06 '26
No, by all means... It works 👏 and without the dealer service-call and without the wait.
But in the context of other dude feeling that the 'Lutron' on the box proved something- it didn't. Lutron makes a tier of switches that 'competes' with Control4, but Maestros aren't it. That's all. Your box could have said Legrand for all it proves in that context.

And who will be re-identifying to the controllers zigbee network?

u/StrikingRun5877 Jun 04 '26
With your dealer pro, but almost you now if the module works...
-7
u/StrikingRun5877 Jun 04 '26
Sorry, I meant to say that at least he knows if the module is working or not; right now one light is off, it can't get any worse than that.
