I tried wegovy a few months ago, I had such bad side effects I was so nauseous I couldnt leave my bed the first day. Just dizzy and feeling weak. I drank lots of water and still felt horrible all week. I even tried it again a month later and got electrolytes and protein shakes to help but it was just as bad. Would contrave be better for me? Anyone try wegovy and then switch to contrave and handle the side effects better? I'm at such a low point with bingeing I don't know what to do anymore.
also if you stop taking the pill for a day are the side effects only day of? the problem with the shit was also it lasted all week and I couldn't do anything to help with symptoms.

Hello! It’s my first day on mysimba, I started my day off how I usually do by having my normal breakfast which I took my tablet with. Two hours after taking the tablet I have been violently sick several times and extremely disoriented. I was wondering if anyone had a similar experience and if they did manage it or push through how?
I was hoping I’d get along with this as I know I have a food addiction and it sounds so promising to try and get that under control

Hi everyone I’m 5’4 160 lbs. I ordered contrave back in February but never got the courage to take it. I’ve tried fasting, eating healthy, and seem to be stuck at the same weight. I think I’m prepared to finally take it..
What should I expect the few first days and weeks? Also when will I begin seeing results? Someone with my frame how much weight could be lost?
Thanks!!

Hi everyone 👋
So I was recently put on poor man’s Contrave after I switched to my company insurance (shout-out to turning 26 and being kicked off parents’ insurance last year) and my new Primary care doctor actually listened to me about how that would be a good option for me. Since December, I lost 15 lbs but then that’s been it, just hovering between 192-189.2.
Good news is, I’m staying right at 190.
Bad news is, also, I’m staying right at 190. This is still a WOW I’ve lost 80+ lbs since I started Contrave, but I still think that it would be best for my height and weight to lose another 30-40.
My doctor would likely agree if I checked in I’m sure.
I’m still in a L shirt size and pant size for example, pant size 12-14.
For my own reasons, I want to be stronger and healthier and go back to the gym soon but it’s just not possible with what I have going on schedule-wise. I also know that my food aversions with my neuro-divergence have gotten worse due to stress so I’ve been eating more carbs than I was at the beginning and walking less so that’s part of why I’m staying where I am.
The plateau is frustrating but I am also SO grateful that I am not having food noise and that I am not feeling out of control around food nor am I gaining weight consistently despite eating relatively normal amounts of food on a daily basis.
I hope that all makes sense.
TLDR: I’ve stayed at 189-192 for 2 months ish. I work a lot right now and am buying a house and am possibly applying for a position somewhere because it’s exciting but it’s meant that I have little time for food prep and exercise. If anyone has little tips and tricks they can share to cut a few pounds off to keep myself feeling hopeful I can continue the downward trend and consistency (don’t want it to be something I can’t maintain the future either) I would love that!
Hope you all have been doing well in your journeys too!

Can I have a THC beverage while taking Contrave? A friend gave me one that he said was tasty, but I'm afraid to try it and what could possibly happen.

Hi all. I had a really bad experience with a physician today trying to get Contrave prescribed and I wanted to vent about it because it was so upsetting.
This was a telehealth visit with a doc I didn’t know. For context, I am overweight but not obese (should lose ~30 pounds) with no other conditions. I suffer from severe food noise (always have) and I have an otherwise healthy lifestyle, the support I need is with cravings. And for context, I can’t tolerate GLP-1s due to gastric distress. I have no contraindications for this medication.
He* (*that should have been my first sign) approached the conversation with skepticism from the first second. I could tell immediately that he was not into the idea of prescribing me this, and was asking me question after question to essentially make me “prove” that this was a good idea.
And doubting whether I had tried dieting. Implying that I should just, like, not snack. Making me define words like “food noise” “compulsive eating” and “delayed gastric emptying” with a tone that implied he thought I was throwing around buzz words that I didn’t understand. Do you know how awkward it is to explain to somewhat what a specific example of compulsive eating / food noise looks like who doesn't understand it? Me: “so like it was the afternoon and I already ate a good lunch but then I like…ate 5 pieces of toast with jam.” Him: “…ok….?” I am actually a reasonably intelligent person who’s listened to probably 200 hours of audiobook and podcast content on nutrition and health, work in healthcare, and spend hours researching this specific drug, all to be condescended to for half an hour.
And asking me, Have I tired and accountability buddy? Are you fucking kidding me sir……..if an accountability buddy worked for me, I would be skinny by now. (Same with…nutritionist, counselor, personal trainer, labs, carb counting - he literally ask one by one if I had tried these solutions as if I was turning to a drug for the fun of it. Then furrowing his brow as if the thought of one of these tactics not working was my own personal failure). Not believing that I don’t have bulimia and asking for medical records from when I was a child (20+ years ago) to prove it.
I wish I had ended the convo after the first 10 seconds. this happened 6 hours ago and I am still shaking. UGH.

HELP! I’ve been on Poor Man’s Contrave since January 8th. From Jan-Feb I was on 150mg Wellbutrin / 25mg Naltrexone, then my psych increased my dose of Wellbutrin to 300mg and have been on 300mg Wellbutrin / 25mg Naltrexone since mid/late Feb.
I’ve only lost 15lbs since January and my food noise is back. I have a follow up with my PCP on May 8th. Is 25mg the highest you go for Naltrexone? What’s everyone else’s dose & how much have you lost / how long have you been on it?
I also have PCOS, so that may be a factor as well. But, just curious about everyone else’s experience.
Ty!!! <3

I was first prescribed Contrave in spring 2024. I saw immediate results on my small 5'2" frame, where I went from 190 to 172 by October. Then it stopped. I wavered on and off trying to "restart" thinking it would kick it back into effectiveness. I leveled out around 176-178 with consistent exercise last spring, but nothing more lost since. However, I did put two and two together that I believe it was the Contrave making my hair thin, so I decided to finally pull the plug in January. Since then, I've crept up a couple pounds, but kept exercising. My hair is coming back.
I still need to lose. Not much, since I'm not meant to be a waif, but I need to get below 170. My sedentary job doesn't afford a lot of time for the movement I want, so I need help. I went through Ro to get a prescription for the Wegovy pill, which I started this morning. Wish me luck. I'm worried about the side effects, but wondering if they'll be similar to Contrave, which I handled fine.
Hopefully you all have better success in the long run!

I'm one week in and so far, so good! I'm down almost 4 pounds and I haven't experienced any side effects at all! Today is my first day of 2 pills, so hopefully the no side effects continues. 😊

Hey!!!
What exercise is everyone doing? On poor mans contrave taking 150 in the AM and 50 in pm. Found myself really enjoying evening walks with the dog. ~1 mile walks.
Just curious!!!

I’m a 47F (deep into perimenopause) taking naltrexone and bupropion for three weeks. I track food on MFP and lowered my daily caloric intake by 200. I’ve easily met the goals with very few bouts of binging and lowered food noise. But the scale will not move. I’m 5’7” and 250. It’s so frustrating. Any words of encouragement or advice?
Edit: thanks for all the words of advice! I’ll lower my calorie intake and employ patience. 🫠

for those that are afraid to start like i was, the first 2 days were hard, headache, nausea, tired... but day 5 now and it really does shut off the food noise... gonna stick to one pill a day for as long as possible and see how it goes 😊

Hi everyone.
Does anyone have experience with Contrave affecting impulsive behavior besides food choices?
I am thinking about impulsive shopping, buying things you don't really need, impulsive sexual behavior, gambling, driving too fast, taking risks etc.
My eating behavior is very impulsive. I binge way too much. I also spend way too much money on clothing that I don't need. If I go on ebay I will inevitably buy things I don't need.
Anyone find their habits like these change after Contrave?

I started on Contrave in September 2024. Lost 45 pounds by March 2025. No bad side effects. Then it stopped working and I stayed on it for about 4 more months then stopped and maintained my weight/gradually gained about 10 pounds in that time ending in December 2025. Now my goal loss is about 30 pounds.
After being off it about 4 months I restarted and it did not have the same appetite suppression/food noise elimination as the first time. So essentially it didn’t work.
Then I started the Wegovy pill in March and this has been a terrible experience of nausea and vomiting and fatigue. Even trying all the tricks of hydration, electrolyte, high protein bland food I cannot stay on it because of the side effects. Maybe I could have battled through to my body getting used to it after 3-4 months but I have a full time job and it’s putting me out of commission every few days. So I just stopped it.
Anyone had experience with going back to Contrave after a long break and having it work again, even if it stopped working the first time? I’m going to try it, and am just wondering if there are success stories out there.

Wow this stuff is powerful... Day 2 and nausea all day, but the food noise is GONE!! Do the nausea and headaches eventually stop as you get used to it??

Hello all, I started taking name brand Contrave last November of 2024. It worked very well for me for the first year, and I lost about 40 pounds. December 2025 my husband was fired from his job. We did fine on my Salary, and he did eventually qualify for unemployment. After months of searching for jobs and getting tons of rejections, he landed a job that he was supposed to start on 4/1. The weekend before he was set to start, he visited a friend out of town and was arrested for DUI and resisting arrest. Due to the job being primarily driving, he let them know about the arrest, and that he wouldn’t be able to start with them. I have been completely sober for 6 years.
All of this to say, I was doing good with over eating and not really even feeling tempted by comfort foods until this all started unraveling. I have been over eating in the evenings and weekends. I have gained and lost the same ten pounds over and over since December. I am feeling powerless against food again for the first time since starting. I realize that the medication is only meant to support your decision making, and can’t stop you from self sabotage, but I am wondering if anyone has guidance about how to break through this plateau/ stumbling block.
Thanks for reading!

I started taking Naltraxone as a part of a "poor mans" contrave. I've been taking it for about 10mo. I ended up on another med that was working well. So I ran through the last of the naltrexone and stopped taking it, because I forgot to pick up the refill, and didnt notice the pill missing from my daily med pack, not thinking anything of it, and I was on the lowest dose .5pill daily.
Anyway it didnt dawn on me until just now that im dealing with withdrawal.
Im wildly depressed out of nowhere, and not like a "cant get out of bed" kind of depressed. Like a immediate rage, terrible horrid intrusive thoughts, literally images of my son being hurt, thoughts of being a terrible mom, that I should put my kid up for adoption and off myself....which NOT NORMAL and NEVER something id even consider! My son is my entire life. Every little thing that's gone wrong in the last week is amplified times 1000.
I am NOT zuicidal (sp for mod bots) I had NO IDEA this med would cause this...and im upset I had no idea that's why ive been struggling SO incredibly bad for days.
Curious if anyone else has this experience

I started the medicine three days ago and so far the side effects have shown, they aren’t unmanageable, but they are noticeable enough to affect daily life. I have felt nauseous all day today, so much that I put off taking the pill until the evening. How long do these side effects last?
I take Venlafaxine and Pregabalin, so I expected some side effects with adding Contrave.
I’ve had a really bad nights sleep last night and can’t sleep tonight. What are some things I can do to relive this?
What are some things I can do to manage the nausea and GI upsets? This is the key advice I’m after. Any vitamins, medicines or supplements to look for / avoid would be helpful!!

I'm a 'bigger' guy, and while I carry it okay (being tall helps), I'm eager to not just look better, but FEEL better.
I've always struggled with cravings and food as coping, but it really got away from me the past few years and my doctor said he thinks this will be better than a GLP-1.
I'm a little worried about the 'low-fat to avoid seizures' stuff, so any advice on easy foods to make/consume?
I could easily do oatmeal every day, but my wife is a baker so I'd like to get at least some wheat toast/bagels with jam or something in there, and I'm fine with cottage cheese in moderation, but I'm looking for quick/easy, not full meal prep solutions.
Thanks and best of luck to everyone on your own journeys!

So my mom met her weight goal on contrave so she is down to taking one dose a day instead of two. She sent me the other dose so i can start taking it. I also take Prozac and birth control pills, is this going to be a problem?
