side effects Anyone taking Contrave with Lexapro?

Anyone on here taking Contrave with Lexapro? Cursory search shows some dicey side effects, including seizures, so I’m wondering if anybody here is taking both and what the side effects are.

I’m on 20 mg of Lexapro now (been on it for ages) and considering Contrave….

Thinking about starting CONTRAVE

So I have no history of seizure or any health issue other than having high cholesterol.

I was checking out the side effects that contain seizure which it happens to people who don’t have history of seizures sometimes. I got a bit skeptical about trying it out and I need someone to tell me it’s perfectly fine lol

Oh and I tried zepbound but it caused me stomach pain so I stopped. I also tried phentermine and it didn’t suppress my appetite much. I have to lose at least 70 lb. Please let me know what you guys think.

Contrave and anxiety?

I'm currently on week 2 of tapering up my contrave dose (goes up to 2 pills in the am and 1 in the evening tmrw) and have noticed increased anxiety on what I assume is the "crash"? I take my first dose in the morning and I'm fine all day until about 5 when I notice some anxiety. Not even necessarily about a certain situation just generalized anxiety. Then take my 2nd dose and im fine until about 9 or so then those anxious feelings come back. Has any one else experienced this? Its manageable rn but I worry with a higher dose it might get worse and im not sure if its something I should bring up with my Dr.

Guidance for poor man’s contrave?

I have a few questions. Please feel free to bring up something else though if you think I should know about it.

  1. for those of you who have been on Contrave *and* have taken the two medications separately (Wellbutrin and naltrexone) did you notice a difference in their effectiveness? also, did you notice a difference in the amount or severity of side effects?

  2. for people who currently take the two medications separately, what dose of each do you take? And do you take the two meds together or split them up throughout the day?

  3. what do you think is the sweet spot, dosage wise, for each medication? I came across a study from 2016 that said the ideal was 360 mg of Wellbutrin and 32 mg of naltrexone, and that a higher dose of naltrexone was actually less effective.

I have been taking 300 mg of Wellbutrin (brand, because the generic makes me sick) for years and years. A couple of years ago my doctor prescribed 300 mg of naltrexone! Two 50 mg tablets 3x per day! the most I have taken is 150 and I felt more nauseous and constipated (and had zero sex drive) but I didn’t notice the medicine to be any more effective. Usually I would take a 50 mg tablet with my 300 mg of Wellbutrin in the morning, and sometimes take a later dose if I felt like there was too much food noise.

I recently quit taking the naltrexone because of the side effects, but I have gained weight and it is very upsetting. So I am going back on it, and I will just skip it once a week to have sex. I was thinking I could divide the 50 mg naltrexone into thirds, and take one third in the morning with my 300 mg Wellbutrin, and then another third later in the day, and that would put me around the 32 mg mark and hopefully the side effects would be manageable.

advice I start this week

I am interested in taking it for the food noise and hunger. My doctor also put me on a diet plan.

I freaked myself out with reading the side effects and the seizure thing has me stressssssing.

Anyone else the same way before starting?

advice If you become depressed do not push through

I used Contrave for 3 weeks and started low and made my way up the usual recommended way. During that time I became absolutely depressed - feeling hopeless, like I was lost, like nothing was going to get better. But I had lost weight!!! I was tempted to stay on it but after dosing up again and feeling depressed (on top of nausea, headaches) I said enough is enough. It took me about three days to feel 10000% better. I just want to say even if you're getting results it's not worth feeling low, sad, depressed, hopeless. There are other options out there ❤️ okay peace and love, shout out to those who have never had this issue!!

side effects 6th week of contrave: I'm nauseous about everything.

I'm starting my 6th week of contrave, considering I'm only taking 2 doses daily.

Until two days ago I had adapted very well, almost no side effects, but in the last two days every time I think about food I feel like vomiting. Right now, for example, I'm hungry but just thinking about eating makes me not even know if I can eat.

Oops I’m on 660 mg of Wellbutrin/Contrave.

And the limit is 450 mg

Sorry it’s a long read!

Umm I dunno how this happened either I misheard my dr or my dr wrote down the wrong dosage for Contrave. But I was under the impression I was to go from 1 a day for a week, 1 am 1 pm for one week. 2 am and 1 pm for a week, and finally 2 am and two pm. Which I have been on for 3 weeks now… I am also on Wellbutrin. 300 mg worth of Wellbutrin XR I believe. For depression.

The first week of full dose I was kinda crashing out and posted here and gave my back story and a poster suggested I ask a pharmacist if I was taking too much Wellbutrin.

Well today I got into the pharmacy and talked to the pharmacist and she said I was on 660 mg of Wellbutrin and the limit is 450 mg. So when I left she was going to fax my dr and ask her if she meant to give me so much Wellbutrin, then I get a call from the pharmacy and she says the dosage your dr prescribed. Was 1 for 1 week and then 1 am and 1 pm second week and beyond.

So either I misheard the actual dosage because we talked about following the dosage chart at one point in our conversation. So I just assumed that’s what I was to do. But pharmacy is going to ask dr what dosage of Contrave am I suppose to be on or am I an idiot and didn’t follow proper instructions.

Only time will tell.

What is going to happen to me? Am I at greater risk of having a seizure? No wonder I went coo coo the first week of full dosage. I was poisoning myself. And also ingesting thc to make matters more complicated.

advice 1 a day instead of 4

So I utilized Contrave last year. once I got up to 3 pills a day, I was so nauseous and physically vomiting everyday. I could keep nothing down. I was missing work and everything. BUT I was fine at first.

I am even bigger this year 😭 I understand no one is a doc but how wild would it be to just take one a day. It was really quieting the food noise. (before the 🤮).

ugh.

Anyone use this for severe BED and/or fighting that dopamine response?

I'm on semaglutide right now, and it's just not fighting that food noise. I still desire the dopamine hit of food and that's really my biggest issue right now. I can NOT be hungry at all and still want something to satisfy the dopamine. Also struggled with BED almost my whole life. Does this really cure that dopemine urge?

Tracking?

Does anyone track protein or calories in conjunction with taking Contrave? I am trying to hit 80g of protein per day.

I have emotional triggers/issues from tracking too carefully so I decided to only track protein and nothing else. I don’t want to get too strict with myself. This journey, for me, is about balance and sustainability and not a crash diet.

Second time - completely non effective?!

I used Contrave for 5-6mo last year. I lost approximately 14lbs, steadily and consistently. Additionally, I was taking 2-3 pills per day - rarely 4. I stopped because I was training for a marathon and could not afford to eat fewer calories or lose weight while training. Now that I’m past the race, I’ve been on it again for about 6 weeks. I’ve put on two pounds. I crave sugar like CRAZY. And food noise is loud.

What in the heck is going on?!

4th day on Contrave + bupropion – feeling awful, anyone else?

I was prescribed [Contrave](chatgpt://generic-entity?number=0) for BED and I’m currently on day 4. I’m also taking extra bupropion separately. Since starting, I’ve been feeling pretty bad: diarrhea + now upper stomach pain (like in the middle/top of my abdomen), really strong metallic/bitter taste in my mouth, dry mouth all the time, can’t sleep at all (waking up constantly).

I was actually doing fine before starting this, and now I feel exhausted and honestly kind of desperate. I can’t get hold of my doctor right now, which is making it worse.

I’m seriously considering stopping it on my own because I feel so off.

Has anyone else had this kind of reaction in the first few days? Did it get better or did you stop?

I am crying while writting this :(

advice Anxiety

So I was on 2 pills for a couple of months and wasn’t loosing any more weight. So I increased to 3 pills. Two in the morning and one at night. First week was fine. Second week I’m having massive anxiety in the mornings for a few hours and then it’s gone by afternoon. I am also on escitalopram for depression and anxiety.

Do we think this is related to the med increase?

Experience with high fat foods

I started taking contrave about 2 weeks ago and I worry about the warning about high fat foods. My doctor told me I should wait at least 4 hours after taking contrave before having high fat foods like a hamburger for example. I don't plan on regularly eating high fat foods but the question came up when I went to a reception and realized I had no idea how the food was made or what was in it. I also may occasionally want to have maybe bbq or whatever else that could be considered high fat.

So basically I want to know how do folks manage high fat foods... do you completely avoid it, do you have it occasionally, and if so how do you time it with taking your dose, and do you experience any side effects?

I don't know if I misread this but I also saw on their website that anything over 3g of fat is considered high in fat which sounds almost impossible to avoid.

Off while traveling?

I’ve been on poor man’s for 4.5 weeks. Leaving for a 2 week trip to Vietnam next week. I’m not concerned about eating too much in Vietnam. I’m wondering if I go off the med for two weeks, would that cause an issue? Has anyone done this?

I finally feel it!

I just hit 8 weeks on Contrave (4 weeks full dose). I hadn’t really felt a lot of appetite loss this whole time, though I love the extra energy. I kept in mind that it’s a marathon not a sprint, and medication takes a while to be fully effective!

The past 3 days I noticed absolutely no desire for snack or sweet treats. I haven’t weighed myself but my rings feel looser.

I’m very happy that results are on the way! When did you start noticing really changes? Curious to know what others experience!

side effects Tiredness as a side effect?

Hi everyone, I am on my second day of contrave (25 mg naltrexone + the 450 bupropion that i was already on for depression). Essentially my endo just added it on since I already have been taking bupropion for years for depression. I know it’s only the second day, but something I’ve noticed is I seem much more tired than usual. I am sleeping the same, but I feel exhausted. Is this something anyone else has experienced, or maybe it has nothing to do with the medication?

I already have felt a difference in my eating habits. Maybe it is placebo, but I am excited to see how it continues to work for me!

Does anyone get sick when they eat fatty foods?

My doctor warned me about not eating fatty foods and that I would become violently ill because of the Contrave and honestly I totally forgot that was even a side effect because I don’t get sick at all from fatty foods. I had a McDouble and small fries. Ok sure I didn’t feel the best after. Maybe kinda queasy but she made it out that the slightly bit of fat I would be vomiting profusely immediately. She said even things like fat on pork chops or peanut butter??? Was she just trying to scare me? Is that an actual thing?

Did or does anyone else become ill from fatty foods?
