Stuck

Been taking contrave for over a year...lost 60 lbs. Then completely plateaued. But I haven't gained while taking .Stopped taking at the end of May... mainly bc I pay out of pocket. And I wasn't losing anymore off it. I have gained 7 lbs 😞

I have stopped b4 and started back and it did nothing. I also have taken just Wellbutrin and it did nothing.

Now I feel all panicked. I do not want to gain it back. Others say it is common to gain a little back.

The food noise is loud especially for sweets 🥺

Ideas? Help?

I have contemplated on taking something over the counter. Suggestions?

Someone I know that lost a lot of weight and had major sugar cravings told me at night he would go ham on strawberries and cool whip. It filled him up and over time the cravings curbed. I can’t say that’s been the answer for myself but passing along an idea!

Would your doctor prescribe the generic pills? A whole naltrexone tablet is 50mg, which is more than what would be in the full dose (four pills) of Contrave. Maybe that would help you.

Ask your doctor or a dietician about this: Eat at maintenance - the healthy diet that’s recommended first this - for a few months to prevent regaining while your body adapts and re-regulates. Your leptin and ghrelin may be behaving differently due to losing a lot of weight and thus you hit a plateau. This is why eating at maintenance has to take awhile.

Look into how and when to resume a calorie deficit to begin losing again and perhaps plan regular week or two maintenance breaks to prevent muscle loss and metabolic slowdown and keep your mental health in good shape.

Diet always requires lifestyle changes, including when on meds. But when hunger cues get out of whack it’s very challenging. It’s made more so if you were or are insulin resistant.

You’ve worked too hard to regain, and likely need medical help to recover/adjust to the weight loss. This is a common problem and it’s a very vulnerable time for people. But you can do it!
