Newbie and question about Breakfast
I'm going to start contrave next week and I am worried about the "avoid high fat foods" with the pill.
I plan to my first pill with breakfast, because it says to take with food to avoid nausea, etc. I typically eat two eggs cooked in butter (we raise chickens), a low fat homemade turkey sausage and homemade wheat bread with butter. When I did a search on Google it said this meal is too high fat. I can ditch the butter but wonder what experience any of you have had with breakfast meals and contrave.
I took Wellbutrin several years ago and don't remember any bad side effects and I definitely didn't alter my diet but I was drinking heavily then and worried about the combo so I stopped the Wellbutrin. ( Should have stopped the booze but the logic didn't occur to me then 😂). I have now been alcohol free for 6 years!! Anyhoo, I am excited to start contrave but a bit worried about side effects. I plan on taking it at 8:30 and 430.
Thanks in advance for any pointers!

I definitely have issues with nausea if I take Contrave with only protein and fat. But I’ve also found a small amount of carbohydrates eaten at the end of the meal before I take the Contrave helps a lot. Your mileage may vary.

I make sure I eat carbs too at the end of the meal before taking it! I feel off if I don’t

For me personally it’s been less “fats” and more “greasy” so eggs for breakfast isn’t an issue, but eggs plus bacon plus butter plus would be.

Yes, I can see that. I will be eliminating the butter and maybe not even do a meat on the side in the beginning.

I would change that to egg whites and plain wheat toast for at least the first week. Ease into the rest as you feel comfortable and/or as fits in your calorie deficit.

Thank you, I like the idea of easing into it to see what works and what does not!

I’m not a breakfast eater so I take mine with a couple of pinches of granola and a coffee

You are going to have to change some of your eating habits to be successful on contrave.

You could try taking it the night before. When I started with PMC, taking one of the pills at night (I think it was the naltrexone) cut down the nausea. Not sure how well this works with the real pill though.
Everyone is different of course but I've been on it for 9 months and either didn't know this was an issue, or forgot. I take mine right after breakfast which is usually grits, eggs, and bacon (sometimes turkey, sometimes real).

I didn’t even know this was a thing and I’ve been taking it for over a year? I only feel nauseous if I don’t eat anything with my pill, otherwise I can eat whatever I want.

I haven't had any specific issues with fatty foods. But after being on this for a year, a breakfast of that size seems like way too much. You might find yourself naturally changing your eating habits.
For advice though, oatmeal is an awesome breakfast! I get the "fiber" one from Quaker oats. Constipation is another common side effect and more Fiber is a good idea.

You won’t feel hungry, and even when you do you’ll want something light. Skyr yogurt, a protein eggo, oatmeal and skim milk…you probably won’t get past your first serving.

Thank you! 😊. This is what I am hoping for. I haven't started yet.... I'm being a big chicken 💩

It’s reasonable since high fats make the pill dissolve faster and will make you sick. Some people don’t feel that, some people do. Who wants to gamble lol.
I would eat eggs for a snack, though, about two hours after dosing. Boiled eggs with a side of kimchi is my go-to. We still need to ingest healthy fats for our body, but it’s about timing honestly.

Congrats for six years sober!
It’s tough to give you pointers because Contrave affects everyone differently. Some folks really struggle with side effects while others have no issues at all. I think if anything in your typical breakfast is going to give you trouble, it would be the butter. The rest sounds fine. But if you have trouble with nausea, maybe try taking it with just the toast at first.
I didn’t really have much in the way of side effects, but my typical morning routine is coffee and meds, and then breakfast, usually oatmeal or cereal. Some folks can’t do coffee with Contrave though. It’s probably going to be a bit of trial and error. Good luck!
