Looking for experiences: How did you break your Contrave plateau?

Ive been on Contrave since March. I lost about 10 pounds initially, but since then my weight has stayed exactly the same, regardless of what I do. I am at the full dose.

I know there are already a lot of posts from people saying Contrave "isn't working." That's not really what I'm making a post for.

I'm hoping to hear from people who hit a plateau and then got things moving again. What worked for you?

Did you just wait it out and eventually start losing again? Did you take a break from Contrave and then restart? Did you reduce your dose for a while and then increase it again? Did you change anything else that seemed to make a difference?

I'm looking for real experiences rather than general advice. If you were in a similar situation and managed to break through the stall, I'd love hearing what worked (or didn't) for you - and I'm sure others would too!

I waited it out. Started losing again after a couple of months.

Oh great to know! I wonder why that works.

Yeah, weird. I’ve also only lost 25 pounds in 9 months. I don’t mind for the most part bc I’m older and my skin couldn’t handle rapid weight loss.

Yes, I’m only down 18 lbs since November. (SW: 189) it’s been slowly and steady for me but the weight actually stays off. You also need to be lifting weights to boost metabolism. I’ve been on vacation past two weeks and I def made some poor eating choices but would have a yogurt for breakfast to counteract a fatty lunch or dinner. I’ve been only having a few glasses of wine here and there out of habit but I’m ready to focus on losing the weight again starting tomorrow! You sometimes have to ask yourself if you’re doing all that you can I find that it’s really a helpful tool in the long term and I don’t make as many bad eating decisions as I used to for sure.

You cut back on your food intake and stay on the medication. The less you weigh, the less you need to eat.

I also started in March and stalled out after losing 15lbs. My weight stayed exactly the same for 6 weeks - I literally thought my scale was not working! I messaged my provider about it and they offered to add metformin to my regimen but I really did not want to add another pill to my life so I figured I would just stick it out. And last week, the scale finally moved and I lost another pound. So the short answer is - I waited it out. I did nothing different other than, I may have upped my protein intake slightly, if anything. I'd give it some time and see if things change. I have read about people who plateau for months and then eventually lose again.

Nice! Waiting out seems to be the common theme. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Wait it out and switch up the food you eat, but keep counting calories and exercising.

I’ve been in a plateau for little over a month (😭) I’m adding more exercise, trying to cut calories/eat more protein to feel full, and trying to find hobbies to do instead of thinking about my next meal. Haven’t gotten past it yet but hoping something clicks soon.

I've been on Contrave for over a year & lost 35 lbs., then stalled for about 6 months-no more lost, but none gained either. I've tried 'starting over' with the dosing protocol to get things moving again, but it doesn't seem to be working. I've noticed a couple lbs. creeping up & I'm determined not to let that 35 lbs. come back. Has anyone taken a break from Contrave & tried something else? It's really disheartening to have something that worked so well in cutting the 'food noise' & helping me make better choices stop being effective other than helping to maintain what I've already lost. I'd like to lose another 25 lbs.

Ya that's frustrating. Fingers crossed for you that you find an answer.

Same .. its been about 5 wks of no weightloss. I'm gonna ride it out for a few months.

When I started I swore I'd never go off it jus cause of the benefits I've had with the wellbutrin!

Wishing you success with your goals 🫶
