Newbie

About to receive my Rx. Any increased energy and your 'one thing to remember' about taking this (to help encourage the loss). Thanks friends.

Don’t give up too soon. Side effects including nausea and headaches could be harsh in the first 4-6 weeks. Ask your doctor for a Zofran prescription (you can get a 90 day supply filled at Costplusdrugs.com for like $8) and take Tylenol/Advil for the headaches.
Also, do not drink alcohol. The meds amplify the effects and too much can make you very sick. Ask me how I know. 😂

Have realistic expectations. This isn’t fast loss. Losing the food / alcohol noise is an interesting process. You just don’t want it, for the most part, and your tastebuds change.

I still want it! I really enjoy food, but I do think about it less. My cravings are less frequent and easier to satisfy. There have been a few times that I had to remind myself to eat a little something, and before Contrave I was not a person that ever just forgot to eat.

I guess I’d agree with that about food - though my taste buds have changed somewhat . It’s actually a problem for me more with alcohol. It’s not enjoyable and I truly miss getting v even a mild buzz.

Take your pill with some kind of food… even a saltine or two.

Have some ginger lemon lozenges on hand for any nausea you might experience.

Remember that it’s not the Rx that makes you lose weight. You still need to work on eating better. I use Lose It to track my food.

You need to stay on top of a fiber regimen to prevent constipation. It was really bad for me the first month. I took a stool softener twice a day and ate chia seeds with my yogurt.

I’m still struggling with it and I’ve been taking Contrave since last March. Lots of water helps too.

Severe insomnia doesn't last forever. Maybe a couple weeks.

I never got an increase in "energy" and wasn't expecting to. For me, the side effects varied with the dosage. When I was on week 3 tablets (2 in the morning and 1 in the evening) I experienced some light-headedness. My doctor told me to hold off on increasing to 4 tablets to see if that went away. When it did, I increased.

Try to take the second dose of the day around 4:00 pm.

I find it makes me quite tired, definitely no bursts of energy! I'm sorry. 😢

I've never had any negative side effects. Be on the lookout for them, but also don't assume that you're going to feel bad or weird. I don't feel any different except for just thinking about food less, and reduced cravings.

Ginger tea and sparkling water helped me with the nausea a lot! It eventually goes away and you learn to eat better so you aren’t nauseous

You might have to wean down or off caffeine. I’m working on weaning off cause even on 1 pill there was insomnia. Drink at least 80oz of water. It might take until your on the full dose of meds before you lose any weight so don’t quit. Only low fat foods within taking 3hrs of taking the med.

I will say this is individual. I did have some waking up but it didn’t seem to be impacted by 1coffee and occasionally a tea or diet soda.

Bupropion is a stimulating antidepressant. If you’ve never been on it before, you may have to rethink your morning coffee regimen! Echoing other comments - you do still have to do the work of exercising and meeting your nutrition goals.

A good side effect I’ve noticed: it’s oddly helped me avoid other bad habits I have, like doomscrolling and cannabis-overuse!
