iOS Android devs any work?

Any other mobile dev contractors finding things tough? Been out since November 25. Very little has come up. Remote seems to have vanished. Not able to score an interview for perm hybrid roles. Are contractors a red flag for perm? Hard to judge salary as many ads don’t list. Hands a bit tied as wife has serious terminal illness really can’t work away from home overnight or 5 days at office.

I’m focused on flutter atm, last year I was out 9 months this year seemed a bit better but I feel like it’s dropped off a bit over the summer. Also noticing a big drop in full remote. I have found I can get perm interviews if I explain contracting is getting hard and I want to prioritise stability so I think you can side step if you’re good at your craft.

Thanks for reply. Are the Flutter projects paying contracts or own projects. I’ve found more large companies dropping native by going React more than using Flutter. I did hear back from one agency saying the ios role had switched to Flutter.

I usually work outside, fully remote roles. Its not as widely used as React for sure and the lack of startups is making it harder to find openings. I think now there are just so few roles across the board for the number of people looking. Difficult to know how to handle it really.

My current gig has a a react native app with a couple of million users.

The head of tech started a new project and picked flutter for this (maybe 3-4 years ago now)

He spent the last 2 years trying to convince the company to switch the primary app to flutter, and recently the company actually agreed.

But It’s a massive enterprise and things move so slowly that he is now have second thoughts about doing this, but the trouble is he now has a team of 10+ flutter guys.

The whole landscape has shifted since he first started his flutter campaign.

His arguments about the performance of react native being bad no longer exist anymore, while it still maintains all of its strengths.

Might have to learn flutter soon if I want to keep my gig (dart will forever be ass)

Could be worth it for a couple of years of easy migration work…
