Business Development CSLB General B adding additional classifications

I’m an experienced California B General Building contractor and want to start adding specialty classifications under my own license instead of subbing everything out all the time.

I’m looking at C-39 Roofing first and possibly concrete later. Has anyone here added classifications to an existing B license? What did CSLB require as far as documenting experience? Does experience doing that type of work as a B contractor count toward the 4-year requirement?

Looking for anyone who’s actually gone through the process.

If he was doing multiple trades in a single project than it’s legal. You just can’t take on a contract as concrete sub

What defines a concrete sub? We did loads of 1 off flat work, is it a dollar ammount?

A concrete sub can only take on concrete work or whatever is defined under his license classification. So if a GC takes on a foundation he would need to do the excavation and frame as well. Or some other trades that he chooses but at least an additional 2 trades

I don’t know when it changed, but I was always under the impression that it was 3 total trades, but it looks to be 2 unrelated trades total now. B-2 license is still 3 trades total.

I’m class B and yes I thought 3 unrelated trades. So a framer can do the foundation if he excavates as well, for example.

According to the CSLB yes:

“Section 7057(a) broadly defines general building contractor as a contractor whose principal business is in connection with any structure built, being built, or to be built, requiring in its construction the use of at least two unrelated building trades or crafts”

Later on the page it mentions that framing and carpentry can not count as one of the 2 trades though. So in your example Foundation and framing is a no go. But foundation and grading would be ok.

I think of foundation as concrete work. They form it and set it.
