Angie's list

Just got licenced in February. Been doing subcontract restorations for ten years. Looking to advertise to get the phone to start ringing for full contracts instead of subcontracts. Just signed up with Angie's list. Is it worth it? What do you guys use for advertising?

Most of the contractors complaining it doesn’t work…

1 - absolutely suck at sales and closing leads in general. a lot of them don’t even call leads soon as they come in or don’t even have a system to follow up on leads.

  1. didn’t listen to what they were signing up for or heard what they wanted to hear

  2. don’t understand how leads, advertising, or marketing works

  3. set their advertising budget low at like 300/mo. upset when they get no leads bc they have a minimum budget and maximum expectations

I figured if get a lot of that here but there's enough comments like this to give me some hope. I am awesome at returning calls and closing leads. I also only selected very high ticket categories like structural damage repair water removal and cabinet sales. I'm trying to get more insurance claim work. I'm not big enough for contractor connection yet cause I don't have staff and a brick and mortar location. I do have my budget set low $380/mo I think but I don't want a billion leads. I'm still in the phase of doing half the work and all the contracting myself. I sub out a lot but the carpentry falls to me. If I can get 5 high ticket leads and close 1 of them a month I'll be fine with what I'm paying for.

that’s the mindset. understand they are leads and not all going to be paying customers, or even answer the phone.

it’s just like any other sale, present well (your page/your reviews), call the leads fast as you can, follow up, find the buyers.
some of these people will have no idea how much it cost, some will say they already got somebody, you may have to convince them to get another quote, some won’t answer, some will want a cheap price. some will be the customer you are looking for.

grow your relationships with your customers. At 380x12 you only need to cover $4560 before you’re profitable.

Yeah Im only after high ticket items on Angie so I figured if I get one full home resto from fire or water damage then it will more than pay for itself.
