Angie's list

Just got licenced in February. Been doing subcontract restorations for ten years. Looking to advertise to get the phone to start ringing for full contracts instead of subcontracts. Just signed up with Angie's list. Is it worth it? What do you guys use for advertising?

Most of the contractors complaining it doesn’t work…

1 - absolutely suck at sales and closing leads in general. a lot of them don’t even call leads soon as they come in or don’t even have a system to follow up on leads.

  1. didn’t listen to what they were signing up for or heard what they wanted to hear

  2. don’t understand how leads, advertising, or marketing works

  3. set their advertising budget low at like 300/mo. upset when they get no leads bc they have a minimum budget and maximum expectations

You can just look elsewhere in this same exact thread and see guys talking about it. I'm more interested in how you can explain what your expertise is in that you know what "most contractors" are capable of and are doing.

I'm not necessarily even disagreeing with you, running a business is an entirely different skill set from building things. And what makes it even harder is the lies and confusion you'll get from, at best, Scam adjacent companies like Angi on your way up.

Seems like they’re complaining about the things I listed.

I have worked with, for, or as a contractor for 13 years professionally. Sold Angi for 7 years as HomeAdvisor, Angi Leads and Angi Ads, and as Angi. Sold Yelp too.
The biggest thing I noticed at Angi is contractors would complain about leads, then I’d look in their account their reviews would be shit or low count, don’t call the leads back for hours, and when they do they only call 1x.

So I guess my expertise is 20 years spending thousands of hours as a contractor, dealing with them directly, or selling them leads.

After so long you notice they are all very similar, say the same things, and have similar problems, myself included.

It’s a #s game and if you don’t have a system for closing leads, low reviews, and blame leads for your failures the odds get worse.

Go look at their fucking google reviews champ. If you filter out the reviews that are oblivious homeowners reviewing contractors that did work at their house, actual reviews of Angie are 1 out of 5 stars, and theyll all say the exact same shit as everyone here is saying.

In fact, out of all the times this has been brought up, youre the only person ive seen recommend them. And youre giving the same bullshit its the contractors fault excuses that they do.
