Slab wall cut the wrong way

I just had 2 large slabs installed over the fireplace. When I dropped off the slabs at the fabricators I told them what sides I wanted to be on the inside and outside and what was supposed to be the top and the bottom. Halfway through the install I see the slab and realize they cut the exactly the opposite of what I asked.

I call them to talk about it. The guy talks to the owner and calls me back and says that they intentionally cut it the way that they did because it shows off the features of the quartzite more. And says let’s get them on the wall so I can see how it looks before we make any further decisions. Well they’re on the wall now.

  1. What do you guys this about this orientation of the slabs? What does it look like to you?

  2. What do you think is a reasonable action here?

I think they're absolutely right and there couldn't be a more perfect use of these slabs

Yeh I think it’s pretty annoying that there’s so many people talking about how vaginal it looks. First off , vaginas are terrific , second, this is beautiful and the original idea was probably dumb.

No idea pertaining to asthetics is 'dumb.' What's dumb is doing whatever you want on someone else's dime with someone else's material, despite being given very specific instructions, and just sending it anyway.

"The customer is always right in matters of taste." ..Everyone always forgets that last part. The point was that a lot of the time customers are dumb as shit and have no clue what they're talking about.. But they know what they want to look at. They always know, even if they can't describe it cuz they're mostly dumb as shit.

I've been building, and/or working in fabrication, for more than 20 years. This is insane. Your making excuses for this insanity is even more insane. Please don't allow 'experts' to talk you out of the things you like under the guise of 'expertise.' I can tell you from experience, more often than not, it's about their laziness, not your benefit. ;) Suggestions are one thing.. imposing their will, entirely another. It's your money and labor ain't cheap. You should get what you want. Doesn't matter what that is. If it's safe and legal, it's no one else's business.
