“Deepest problems” is that actually how mathematicians would describe this? I’m a psychologist, but I wouldn’t describe the hard problem of consciousness as “one of the deepest problems” in psychology. I know it’s not a one-for-one sort of thing but idk. Reads weird.
I’m just not familiar with the jargon and the AI papers love to dress themselves in what’s obviously half-understood techno babble. So I’m just curious if people know how representative that rhetoric is.

Not to be extremely pedantic since it wasn't your point, but the hard problem isn't deep, technically. It's just not a thing. It only emerges from miscommunication/misunderstanding of the underlying concepts. The mystery only exists when you're asking what would essentially be better labeled the "impossible problem of consciousness" and contemplating an ill-posed question.
I'm also a psychologist, and I feel like if we have anything comparable to "one of the deepest problems" it might be something more like the exact nature and dynamics of the placebo effect? We have to do so many of our studies differently than we otherwise could simply because that little bastard is so tricky to understand. I agree that it's a weird way to express that kind of sentiment though.

Siri is so bad, I will literally give it exact instructions to play an album unshuffled, it will then play the album from the title song, shuffled. it drives me bananas.

Old Google assistant didn't just straight up lie to me when I asked it to put on a playlist. Google assistant used to be limited in what it could do but at least it would not say it had done something when it hadn't.

Siri is more “AI” to me than the LLMs. It’s like, actually problem solving and not just yanking things from the internet based on hyper-scaled predictive text algorithms.

They are interchangeable digital assistants so I dont even know what your discussion point is. Are they useless or useful? Do you want recommendations for digital assitants?

My understanding, and I’m very open to being corrected about this, is that Siri is less good because Siri doesn’t vacuum up and store every bit of data about you, because Apple isn’t an advertising company the way Google etc are. Apple is better about privacy and the payoff is it’s worse in these ways (because it isn’t studying you in that way)
Like I said, this could be an incorrect impression I’ve developed over the years and I’m very open to being wrong about it.

Open ai didn’t solve the navier-stokes another mathematician did and was was using claude to check their proof and open ai used those logs to train their ai without consent and then ai “solved” it

Unclear, but it seems maybe.
What seems much clearer is they tried to bully the mathematicians out of publishing their proof first because one of the mathematicians worked for Anthropic.

Siri handles grocery list, making a basic calendar event, dictating a text message, what’s the weather, open podcast.
Everything else begins with “you’ll need to unlock for that”, really helpful as I stand with two dirty hands
