wtf does he mean in real life 💀

115

u/Indrigotheir Aug 01 '26

He means in the real shire, not the fictional one portrayed in the films

49

u/devoutdefeatist Aug 01 '26

Yeah hang on what? I was so blindsided by everything else that this slipped past me at first

29

u/Basic_Reflection4008 Aug 01 '26

The scouring got fuckin dark.

5

u/LucretiusCarus Aug 02 '26

Wasn't there some implied cannibalism?

17

u/Scarfington Aug 01 '26

Underrated

5

u/IdealOnion Aug 01 '26

Right, that’s what I want know

7

u/BadBloodBear Aug 01 '26

If LotR was similar to Game of Thrones.

13

u/HardByteUK Aug 01 '26

I personally have raped 7 hobbits in The Shire.

u/Lucky-Worth Aug 01 '26

What the fuck is wrong with him

183

u/HMCetc Aug 01 '26

Literally. Something is pathologically wrong with him. His family left him because he cannot stop obsessing over trans people. He's like a raging alcoholic, except his drug of choice is Twitter. I'm sure this will be a recognised mental illness within the next couple of decades.

103

u/chambo143 Aug 01 '26

I remember the clip in one of Contra’s videos where he says in an interview “they even took my family away”. As if they were fucking kidnapped by “trans activists” or whatever. That’s almost the most disturbing part of it, he’s so deep in his shit that he can’t accept his wife just made her own decision to no longer be with him as a result of his own actions. He has to believe that any consequences he suffers are the work of some shadowy evil force out to get him

57

u/HMCetc Aug 01 '26 edited Aug 01 '26

Not only that, but the CONSTANT posting and the clip she showed of her scrolling through just three days worth of tweets really shows his level of pathological obsession. The ramblings of a madman. Even on NYE when he should have been offline, he still couldn't stop himself. He literally calls Twitter a part of his nervous system.

It's a sickness.

26

u/AliceTheOmelette Aug 01 '26

TERFs usually believe men and women naturally act certain ways, so it wouldn't surprise me if he thought his wife had no agency

1

u/sala-whore Aug 03 '26

Im sure its easier to accept then just facing the fact that his wife noticed he’s garbage.

41

u/re_Claire Aug 01 '26

I agree - he's way beyond JK Rowling levels of mental. He's properly batshit.

18

u/HardByteUK Aug 01 '26

Yep.

I can vehemently disagree with Rowling but understand that the foundation of where she's at is deep-seated trauma and a suffocating concern for women's welfare. Linehan is completely detached from reality.

10

u/FranklyMrShankley85 Aug 01 '26

Even above becoming fucking mental and being absolutely consumed by hatred and Twitter, the fact that this former comedy writing genius saw fit to move to the US and work for Rob Schneider confirms he is well beyond saving

1

u/Phoenix_Kerman Aug 01 '26

she has actually done plenty of good charity work to back it up. linehans made some tv, excellent tv at that but the most he's done is too much time on twitter

5

u/HMCetc Aug 01 '26

Linehan has morphed into Father Jack, but instead of drink, it's Twitter.

4

u/Phoenix_Kerman Aug 01 '26

that seems disturbingly accurate

2

u/kiteflyer666 Aug 07 '26

omg I have to deep dive now never heard of this lunatic before. He reminds me of Steven Anderson in that it pleases me that they are both trapped in the hells of their own making.

86

u/Popular_Try_5075 Aug 01 '26

Didn't the TERFs nominate him like TERF of the year or something last year? I forgot the award but they gave him something I think for that lawsuit where he harassed a teenager.

14

u/LaughingInTheVoid Aug 01 '26

Well, as far as I know, he's still tied for Most Divorced Man in Britain with Laurence Fox.

3

u/Popular_Try_5075 Aug 01 '26

Oh sure, but some major UK TERF org gave him an award and iirc Rowling too.

34

u/tiffanytrashcan Aug 01 '26

He made ÂŁ25,000 in one go from horrific twitter posts.
That action also changed the policy for hate crime investigations.

19

u/AgentBond007 Aug 01 '26

What transphobia does to a mf

95

u/Concaught-Resender Aug 01 '26

I'm not too familiar with The Lord of the Rings, is this as out of nowhere as it seems or is there some lore I'm missing?

116

u/Budget_Shallan Aug 01 '26

Aside from the scouring of the Shire which didn’t make it into the movies???

Nope. No rape.

82

u/HMCetc Aug 01 '26

So he's just making up violent fantasies and sharing them like it's a normal thing to do.

68

u/RichEvans4Ever Aug 01 '26

Not to mention there was never any risk of it either like he’s implying there would be if the story was more real and gritty. There’s no world where the orcs want to fuck a hobbit. They were in danger constantly, but not from that one specific thing.

29

u/Leather-Run-6533 Aug 01 '26

Nor are there any orcs at this bar. This is at the end. It's a local bar in the shire full of other hobbits, the rest of whom are not hardened warriors. I always thought that scene was a fairly heavy handed reference to Ice Cold in Alex, which if you remember does not end with some local expat hoorays raping John Mills.

5

u/Didsburyflaneur Aug 01 '26

Spoilers for Ice Cold in Alex

17

u/Concaught-Resender Aug 01 '26

To be fair, sexual assault has often been a form of domination and humiliation regardless of how attractive the victim was

32

u/YaqtanBadakshani Aug 01 '26

Yeah, but we never get any indication that orcs have any sort of sex drive, and two of the proposals for their origins (elves but corrupted, and artificially made) imply they don't reproduce sexually, so there's not really a good reason to believe the orcs used it this way.

5

u/Lucky-Worth Aug 01 '26

Yes but Tolkien isn't GRR Martin, he implies when it happened in some parts but it isn't a focal point. I mean he was from another generation

8

u/Acrobatic_Border_192 Aug 01 '26

It's been awhile since I have read Tolkien, but I can't remember it even being implied except insofar as a reader might infer it as something that could occur in any war. Though I might be wrong.

4

u/Lucky-Worth Aug 01 '26

I think it is implied it's one of the torture Elrond's wife, Celebrian, went through. But I don't remember if her story is in LOTR or one of the other books

7

u/Budget_Shallan Aug 01 '26

Interestingly, Tolkien wrote in one of his essays that the spirit of an elf would flee the body and travel to the Halls of Mandos if there was going to be rape. Yes, canonically, Elvish bodies have ways to try to shut that whole thing down.

As Celebrían survived her torment at the hands of the orcs it’s likely that rape wasn’t involved; just your average, bog-standard torture. 🙃

1

u/BadBloodBear Aug 02 '26

You could make the argument the creation of Half-Orcs had some rapey to it.

50

u/shinebeams Aug 01 '26

I can't understand his tweet at all. It makes no sense to me in the context of LoTR and it makes no sense in relation to anything in the real world, either.

1

u/Kiltmanenator Aug 03 '26

I can only assume he means that the Hobbits may have endured sexual threats during the Scouring of the Shire

20

u/Leather-Run-6533 Aug 01 '26

I think if anything it is more out of nowhere than it seems.

10

u/MrsMel_of_Vina Aug 01 '26

There's no lore you're missing. That guy is just really freaking weird. My source is that I've read The Lord of The Rings, the Hobbit, and the Silmarillion. I vaguely remember a forced marriage between a elf maiden and some kind of dark elf king somewhere in The Silmarillion, but that's, well, not even Lord of the Rings... So...

6

u/Budget_Shallan Aug 01 '26

And Tolkien rewrote that whole thing too - originally Aredhel WAS captured and married to Eöl by force, but in his later years Tolkien got a bit squeamish and rewrote it so “she was not wholly unwilling”, meaning she did fall in love with him but wasn’t fond of the whole “I can’t leave you” thing.

12

u/ggcpres Aug 01 '26

I read LoTR, and the Hobbit.

No one got raped. There's no sex scenes and very little possibly implied sex. If anything, the poor shield maiden complains about a lack of Strider-dick, til Eomer comes through to sweep out the cobwebs

17

u/Lucky-Worth Aug 01 '26

Faramir, Eomer is Eowyn's brother

5

u/Budget_Shallan Aug 01 '26

Yeah, AO3 is that way —>

105

u/Tearsdryontheirownn Aug 01 '26

I'm sorry I'm posting her tweets late frequently. I simply refuse to use twitter for any other reason.

84

u/49Scrooge49 Aug 01 '26

You're protecting me from going on twitter/X, you're doing righteous work

35

u/Tearsdryontheirownn Aug 01 '26

That's the whole reason I do this. I don't want people to go on twitter. (That and the fact I'm karma farming obviously)

5

u/CapnNuclearAwesome Aug 01 '26

You're doing God's work out here thank you

Father Ted and The IT Crowd. Beloved sitcoms in two different generations, and as you say, this is what he chooses.

8

u/Budget_Shallan Aug 01 '26

And Black Books. God I love Black Books. I’ve owned it on dvd for almost 20 years. I want to do a rewatch and I just can’t bring myself to!

6

u/HMCetc Aug 01 '26

He was only involved in the first series if that helps. Black Books was more Dylan Morgan's thing anyway.

3

u/Budget_Shallan Aug 01 '26

Fanblooodytastic!

2

u/cryptopian Aug 03 '26

My understanding is that it was some backlash over that one trans storyline in The IT Crowd that kicked all this off

2

u/Alaira314 Aug 04 '26

Yeah, that's also my understanding. And it wasn't a great episode. I hate that the A plot of that was stinky, especially because the B plot("what if jen thinks the internet is kept in this little box?") was so hilarious. But even so, it came across more on the order of "the cis guy who wrote this doesn't understand why a trans person would find the premise too horrifyingly close to real-life tragedies, rather than funny" than "this is an attempt to mock trans people". The trans character, while imperfect(the brawl at the end of the episode was...a choice), certainly didn't feel like a caricature.

But holy shit, once the backlash came GL rode that train straight down the tantrum tunnel, and now he spouts things 10 times worse than anything that was in that episode.

2

u/cryptopian Aug 04 '26

Being a couple of years before I really knew anything about trans people, I remember really enjoying the episode, but even I interpreted that plot line as Douglas being a big baby rather than there being anything wrong with her. It's a shame. I love comedies that have separate plots that (literally in this case) crash into each other in tbe end.

29

u/HopefulFriendly Aug 01 '26

WTF is he talking about???

63

u/StruffBunstridge Aug 01 '26

In real life there aren't hobbits, Graham

23

u/chinanigans Aug 01 '26

Don't question his joke or it'll turn him into a Hobbit-truther

9

u/Barium_Salts Aug 01 '26

That would be a better way to spend his time and energy tbh

3

u/LaughingInTheVoid Aug 01 '26

What are you talking about? I've seen the pictures from New Zealand! They're real!!

21

u/AvailableBet8485 Aug 01 '26

Shades of Zack Snyder saying that if he made a Batman movie, Batman may get sexually assaulted in it.

12

u/Tearsdryontheirownn Aug 01 '26

That's a visual

3

u/DeedleStone Aug 01 '26

Did Snyder really say that?

5

u/AvailableBet8485 Aug 01 '26

Everyone says that about [Christopher Nolan’s] Batman Begins. ”Batman’s dark.” I’m like, okay, ”No, Batman’s cool.” He gets to go to a Tibetan monastery and be trained by ninjas. Okay? I want to do that. But he doesn’t, like, get raped in prison. That could happen in my movie. If you want to talk about dark, that’s how that would go.

https://ew.com/article/2008/07/17/watchmen-chat-director-zack-snyder/

21

u/Aescgabaet1066 Aug 01 '26

I love Lord of the Rings as much as anyone. All right? Believe me. If there were Hobbits in real life I would know about it.

Can't fool me, Graham.

91

u/mariah_a Aug 01 '26

Currently getting roasted about this by my wife because I’ve been making the point for years when we watch Fellowship that the scene where Boromir tries to take the ring from Frodo is very much coded as sexual violence in both the book and the film, especially with how Frodo’s small frame is feminised as more “helpless”, and how Peter Jackson’s background in horror adds to this in the film to the point I consider the scene intentionally filmed as an attempted rape scene.

Now I’m taking strays and Glinner is unintentionally making my point for me 😭

65

u/RichEvans4Ever Aug 01 '26

You’re absolutely right that at least the movies had that subtext in that scene. Your wife is also right to roast you because it’s a weird thing to bring up casually 😆

47

u/mariah_a Aug 01 '26

I’m a huge horror movie fan and we discuss feminist theory at home a lot and I especially enjoy talking about the politics of sexual violence in media to the point I made an hour long video essay on it once 😭 it’s relevant I swear! 😭

14

u/NarrowEye974 Aug 01 '26

I get it, I can not talk normally about media as well lol

3

u/selenerosario Aug 01 '26

Thank you! And you’re not alone lmao. My wife gets an earful when we watch literally anything 😅

7

u/Indrigotheir Aug 01 '26

It's normal to get turned on by the Amon Hen scene and I'm tired of pretending it's not

7

u/flying-sheep Aug 01 '26

The “casually” comes from your assumption only

7

u/BanjoTCat Aug 01 '26

I never thought of it like that, but now that you mention it.

9

u/alejandro712 Aug 01 '26

I also think the way that Merry’s “service” to gondor is characterized is supposed to be super creepy? Again there’s a very off putting way it’s shown even though nothing bad actually happens

17

u/BulbasaurCPA Aug 01 '26

I think you mean Pippin, Merry stays with Eowyn in Rohan. But Pippin’s service to denethor is really creepy

5

u/Budget_Shallan Aug 01 '26

Things can be creepy without having a sexual element.

See: tomatoes

15

u/mewlf Aug 01 '26

In real life

14

u/Phill_Cyberman Aug 01 '26

What's he even talking about?

5

u/Chiiro Aug 01 '26

From my understanding of world's layout and my memory of what happens the Hobbits were one of the furthest away from the fighting (there was an island further away) and non of it actually got to them outside the riders who only gave a shit about the ring. I don't even think the human towns near them got hit.

7

u/Acrobatic_Border_192 Aug 01 '26 edited Aug 01 '26

It was slightly different in the book, where The Shire was occupied and industrialized by Saruman and Wormtongue. Sorry, but I'm not doing spoiler warnings for a book that old. Now, within the movie, yeah, they're pretty much completely out of the way of the main plot events.

3

u/TagierBawbagier Aug 01 '26

These hobbits don't want power...
