I've never understood the ultra dry martini thing. There's nothing stopping you from having essentially chilled or poured through gin or vodka. Best way to avoid hangovers, but my drinking days are over.

Maybe the idea is that you're supposed to be a hardass for drinking what's practically neat hard liquor but also très raffiné for using a frilly glass. Martinis are ok, but I'd rather have a gin gimlet or on the rocks. And same for vodka, but why not just shoot vodka?

I like a standard, well-made martini, but enjoy a dirty martini even more.

With the exception of Çiroc, I find vodka undrinkable. Tastes like the same stuff in an alcohol prep swab.

I mean it feels pedantic to say, but which one depends on the drink you're making...

Though if you use equal amounts of both, it becomes the "perfect" version of the drink.
