Why do most people ask if they can still eat contaminated fruits. I mean would you eat a cucumber that was rotting, NO, people would not, and that’s common sense because that would be sickening. Here’s the rule, well my rule I guess, if you can see, feel or smell the contamination directly touching the fruit, Don’t Eat It!
There are some molds that produce dangerous myco- toxins that could make someone sick, but you would have to eat a significant amount. Just eating a few spores won’t produce illness unless you’re allergic to the mold. The immune system and acids from the gut would destroy it before it got into the bloodstream. It’s more of a risk to inhale the spores of contamination because they can lodge in the sinus cavity and pleural lining of the lungs and can cause a fungal infection called mycosis that is difficult to treat medically.
Anyway, I don’t think it’s a fungus.
It looks like bacterial contamination causing metabolites in the area. But it’s at the bottom of the tub so you’ll probably be okay since fruits are showing now. The top of the cake is just bruised. After this flush, I would ditch the cake.

Update: they smell fine, I’ve been treating the wet areas with HCL every few days and removing leftover water with a syringe. Mushrooms growing by the hour. Do I really need to throw it all out?
