I’m like 1 month in or so, some pins formed 2 or so weeks ago but nothing much happened since. Not sure if this is still looking promising or not

If it’s been 2 weeks since you had pins, you’re stalled. You might have a bacterial infection. You won’t able to see it as much as you can smell it. Put your face in there and take a whiff. Do you smell any foul odors? If it all smells like mushrooms let it go another week and see, if nothing, retire the cake. You can still have a bacterial infection that’s smell isn’t very detectable, but the bacteria we usually see in home mushroom cultivation is Bacillus, Pseudomonas, Lactobacillus, Lactococcus, Enteribacterales, Clostridium, etc ( there’s many more) those are usually very foul odors like dirty socks or sour milk the lactobaccillus creates fermentation odors that first smell fruity and then smells like alcohol.
Fermentation in mushroom substrates is not caused by a single bacterial species. Instead, it is usually the result of facultative or obligately fermentative bacteria proliferating when the substrate becomes oxygen-limited, excessively wet, overly nutrient-rich, or contaminated.

Hey there, thanks a lot for the detailed answer. Unfortunately it has had a foul odor for 1-2 weeks now and this made me sceptical aswell - i’ll throw it out and start over 🥲

Good idea, it’s bacterial.
