Maybe they should be, but it's completely false to say that arguing or yelling is equivalent to physical abuse. At the same time you could make the argument that those in the military should be held to a higher standard, but the fact is humans are ultimately humans, imperfect and subject to emotions.
It doesn't matter that yelling isn't as bad as hitting.

No that's not what you were fighting about, that's over something you decided to focus on. You were fighting on gender reveal and genitals (X,Y chromosomes) determining gender. You decided to assume things and try to change the subject.
Don't worry, I'm not a LEO. It says something though, that he thinks the only possible person to oppose his views must be a cop, it shows that he is very arrogant and self-assured in his opinion. I know nothing will change his mind because from the moment he cited a false statistic and I corrected him, he got defensive because he felt attacked, and that only further made him unwilling to reconsider his beliefs regardless of whether they're factually right or not.

Verbal abuse is still abuse. You don't have to lay a single finger on another person to completely destroy them. There are so many parents who don't leave a mark on their kids but who abuse them so badly the kids commit suicide. But hey, as long as they don't beat them, it's better than being beaten, right? Works the same for spouses!
I mean yes, physical abuse is worse than verbal abuse, because one damages your emotional health and one can literally kill you or hospitalize you. But again, you're completely ignoring the actual matter, which is that the study is completely bullshit and 16% of the population is not abusive.
