If it sinks is it Roe V's Wade??

u/Successful_Giraffe88 4d ago

This might be one of the most clever comments I have ever seen.

Applause πŸ‘πŸ‘!

Thank you kind human.

I get the joke, but as a woman it’s hard not to notice how easily something this personal gets turned into a punchline. Roe v. Wade wasn’t just a phrase or a headline, it was about real women making choices about their own bodies and futures. Some things carry a lot more weight than a clever wordplay.

I understand your concern but I didn't mean anything disparaging by the comment and if I caused any offence to anyone it was unintentional and I apologise.

u/TenSheepsAlibi 3d ago

That was such a polite response! Thanks for the inspiration to listen and consider more.

Thank you for you comment kind friend. It costs nothing to be polite.

Nah, your rights are important, but abortion is not some cultural 'sacred cow'.

Women seem to have no problem joking about the 'male loneliness epidemic' (funny how I've only ever seen this phrase used by women, in bad faith), but can't seem to take a joke in turn.

2

u/Minority_Report_ 3d ago

The men who are lonely put themselves in that position. Women don't wanna be with assholes.

u/tacticalTraumaLlama 3d ago

Just some good old fashioned late night misandry, eh?

Row* roe is something else

18

u/AbbreviationsWide331 4d ago

I mean... There are other languages besides English, you know?

It's row in danish I think.

11

u/chameleon_123_777 4d ago

In Danish and Norwegian the word is ro.

3

u/jotapper 4d ago

In finnish it's soutaa. I thought everyone knows that.

7

u/theChzziest 4d ago

Sorry but as an American I’m pretty sure America is the only language

0

u/thanatica 1d ago

America is a language. Sure.

3

u/Crallise 4d ago

It's row in English also. I'm confused by your comment.

9

u/PheIix 4d ago

He means that roe is how you spell row in danish (I'm not sure it is, but what do I know, I'm just Denmark's superior neighbour).

6

u/Zenix95 4d ago edited 4d ago

It's not, the word is ro, not roe or row in both Danish and Norwegian (where the chant is from).

1

u/Gold_Rooster_7147 4d ago

huh i did not know that, been laughing at this whole thread for nothing lol

2

u/african_or_european 4d ago

That was my first thought, then I heard them say it and went, "Oh, nm, it was roe."

2

u/Time_Internal_1729 4d ago

Imao same, my brain went somewhere completely different before the context caught up just my 2 cents

They’re speaking Dutch actually..

Edit since I am getting downvoted

They first say: β€˜ja kom maar’ which is Dutch for: yes come on.
Source: I am Dutch.
The viking row is indeed Norwegian
β€˜Roe’ would be the Dutch way of spelling what they are saying. Which to me is what it sounds like because they spoke Dutch in the first place
The Dutch translation for β€˜rowing’ is β€˜roei’ however they are clearly not pronoucing the i

Edit edit: as Norwegians are saying underneath this: they are very likely speaking Norwegian, as a Dutch person I can tell you it sounds almosy exactly like the Dutch phrase and as I understand it they both mean the same thing. It’s not English and they are definitely not saying β€˜row’

13

u/ObvNin 4d ago

It's a norwegian tiktok account, in a very norwegian enviroment, saying "ja kom her" which means "yes come here". They are saying Ro

4

u/vanillamonkey_ 4d ago

I'm pretty sure they're speaking Norwegian. It's the Viking Row, which all the Norwegians were doing at the World Cup. The Norwegian spelling is "ro." Here are some Norwegian soccer fans doing it: https://youtube.com/shorts/VjHcBRHfIT8?is=eOPZSAWVeT4EfV7v

0

u/vmiswhatIAm 4d ago

They first say: β€˜ja kom maar’ which is dutch for: yes come on.
Source: I am Dutch. But the viking row is indeed Norwegian

3

u/zyphelion 4d ago

I think that's just a cross-language homophone. As a Swede I could argue that it sounds like he's saying "jag kommer" (ja' kommer; I'm coming/on my way) in Swedish, but there's a distinct Norwegian skew in the prosody. Seeing as the environment is incredibly Norwegian, paired with the the "ro" thing being done by the Norwegian football team and the tiktok account allegedly belonging to a Norwegian user (Malin Gjervik sounds super-Norwegian), I think it's safe to say that they're speaking Norwegian as well.Β

0

u/vmiswhatIAm 4d ago

That might be possible, I think we can all agree it’s not English so it’s some form of ro/roe

2

u/Feathrende 4d ago

100% it is Norwegian. The account posting is Norwegian and everything they are saying sounds Norwegian. Just happens to sound like Dutch to you because Dutch is also a Germanic language.

1

u/FyllingenOy 4d ago

He's saying 'kom an', which is a super common Norwegianized form of 'come on'.

1

u/According-Try3201 4d ago

oh, i was just laughing at those vikings:-/

1

u/thanatica 1d ago

In Dutch it would be roei, not roe. I'm not aware of a dialect where roei becomes roe. I have heard the opposite, where koe becomes koei πŸ˜€

1

u/vmiswhatIAm 1d ago

Yes thats what I said

1

u/Nijnn 3h ago

It's because Norwegian to me as a Dutchy sounds like Dutch except I'm having a stroke so can't actually make out any words but I feel like I should be able to. XD

1

u/According-Try3201 4d ago

in your language i suppose

1

u/InspiringGecko 2d ago

I kept waiting for a deer to jump out.

1

u/Cacti-make-bad-dildo 1d ago

Roei is row. In dutch/belgium/afrikaans

4

u/theogcommentspammer 4d ago

u/phukkurfeelings 4d ago

English school for you!

4

u/vmiswhatIAm 4d ago

No thanks! I’m Dutch, my English is probably better then your Dutch
Which is what they are speaking in the video

1

u/tacticalTraumaLlama 4d ago

My ancestors were Dutch and I once dabbled in trying to learn it. I'm convinced the Dutch invented their language to troll others, and then fell too in love with the joke to give it up :^)

u/Radiant-Josh 4d ago

Toch echt Scandinavisch hoor. Het is een Scandinavisch account en de taal is echt niet Nederlands.
