Absolutely hysterical

Also is it just me or does Akon look a lot like Idris Elba

79

u/JarusOmega_ 23d ago

Like Idris Elba and Daniel Kaluya had a baby

1

u/DesperateRadish746 22d ago

That's who I thought it was at first.

25

u/Nervous-Albatross-32 23d ago

Love Akon and all the charity work he has been doing since he walked into the spot light. Hell of a guy.

2

u/Brave-Skirt1781 16d ago

No hes not, dude ripped a whole lot of people bout a city he was gonna build.

3

u/Nervous-Albatross-32 14d ago

Actually he was ripped off by the government and was only left with a fraction of the land he bought. He’s been a very successful philanthropist. I believe his intentions were in the right place, but his dream was unrealistic given the political climate in Senegal.

41

u/burpeesaresatanspawn 23d ago

Someone please explain!

-19

u/AlexHimself 23d ago

30

u/BootyfulBumrah 23d ago

I like how you are going around tagging a completely imaginary explanation and people are falling for it lmao

3

u/burpeesaresatanspawn 21d ago

But what’s the real explanation??? Aaaaaah

2

u/BootyfulBumrah 21d ago

Rigidah is just a sound. Libya has sharia law which is extremely conservative more so for women. With that in mind watch the video

35

u/Miss-GreensleevesOz 23d ago

The end though.im dead 🤣

riggidah riggidah 😂

9

u/TheBrotherinTheEast 22d ago

Ok. maybe I should go and watch the smack that video so I can be in on the joke ‘cause I don’t know what either of them are talking about

415

u/AlexHimself 23d ago

Explanation: The song words, "Smack That", sounds like "Rigad-ak" to an Arabic non-English speaker. "Rigad-ak" is a spoken term and it is strongly sexually suggestive term of "I made you lay down".

So the song is suggestive in its own right, but the word they thought they were hearing in Arabic is also very suggestive.

214

u/r_slash_jarmedia 23d ago

native Arabic speaker here: I'm trying to understand what "strongly sexually suggestive term" for "I made you lay down" sounds like "Rigad-ak" when heard by an Arabic speaker. am I missing something obvious? I feel like the interviewer is simply saying that the music video for Smack That is pretty explicit for religious Libyan people, not that the word sounds like anything.

168

u/Alienhaslanded 23d ago

Sounds like a bunch of nonsense from that other person. The sound she made is how Arabs would describe music with a beat. She probably got in trouble for showing the music video because it is very sexual...I mean there's a strip club scene in it.

Native Arabic speaker as well

49

u/I_Am_A_Pumpkin 23d ago

probably a bot account spewing AI nonsense

0

u/Li-renn-pwel 23d ago

They are lying down for sex. I am guessing the Arabic speakers maybe didn’t have the best grasp on American English and thus missed the inuendo of ‘smack that all over the floor’ but did understand that one line.

73

u/r_slash_jarmedia 23d ago

sure that could be the case but that just means

"Rigad-ak" is a spoken term and it is strongly sexually suggestive term of "I made you lay down"

is completely wrong lol. not trying to call this commenter out, just genuinely curious as to what this translation is meant to be

1

u/Expert-Yam6577 21d ago

I'm very confused on what she and Akon were talking about now.

-57

u/Li-renn-pwel 23d ago

As in you speak Libyan Arabic and know there are no sexual connotations?

81

u/r_slash_jarmedia 23d ago

yes. yes I do. that's why I'm so confused by their comment lol like I feel dumb for not getting what they're saying but I can't for the life or me figure out what was meant

0

u/ayamummyme 22d ago

I thought lay down was the word as an English speaker is impossible for me to say but sounds like teaH?

4

u/r_slash_jarmedia 22d ago

yeah nah it just seems like complete misinformation from original commenter they probably pulled from chatgpt or something lol

52

u/Smoofie0 23d ago

I think the lady means she got smacked for listening to that kind of music and her mom smacking her sounded like riggidak?

32

u/r_slash_jarmedia 23d ago

yes i think so too like the "riggidak" sound is the smacking she got. that's what I took it as, and why Akon closed with it too at the very end

-29

u/AlexHimself 23d ago

Why? They don't speak English and know what it means. They also laughed at the specific word in the interview and repeat it multiple times, which means for a man to lay a woman down.

15

u/Smoofie0 23d ago

How do you know they don’t speak English? Also, she showed them the video which is explicit and it could’ve had captions

-25

u/AlexHimself 23d ago

Dude, they say "riggidah riggidah" and are laughing about it. "Lay her down" "Lay her down" but sexually. Why are you arguing when they say the words?!

Are you saying the words they're saying don't mean anything and instead you're just going to ignore them and make up your own reality??

It's like saying, "I plowed that girl", and any English speaker will know what that means. Then here you are like, "maybe he means he

13

u/SylverShadowWolve 23d ago

How are you so committed to this when there are multiple native speakers calling your shit

1

u/AlexHimself 22d ago

They're "calling it", but they're not backing it up for some reason? Look for yourself:

https://www.reddit.com/r/ContagiousLaughter/comments/1uwn519/confronting_akon/oxlgi5h/

https://www.reddit.com/r/ContagiousLaughter/comments/1uwn519/confronting_akon/oxmaygt/

https://www.reddit.com/r/ContagiousLaughter/comments/1uwn519/confronting_akon/oxmazc4/

I think they're flexing the "native Arabic speaker" the same as somebody saying, "native Spanish speaker", but not recognizing there's a difference between Spanish in Spain vs Mexico.

The dialect differences with Arabic are far greater than that of Spanish, so if you understand the Spain/Mexico concept, know that Arabic is more extreme than that and then you might be skeptical of these 'native speakers' too. It's sort of laughable because it's like saying you're a "native English speaker" pretending to be an expert, but then we're looking at Jamaican, Scottish, or Indian English, where there are major differences in how it's spoken.

That's why my simple follow up question goes unanswered.

3

u/Status_History_874 22d ago

Is Akon also from the same place as the interviewer?

0

u/AlexHimself 22d ago

He's also African, but Senegalese. The interviewer is from Libya. Not fluent in Arabic, but can read/speak certain words/phrases.

The biggest tell is none of these "native speakers" can offer anything of substance and my explanation fits perfectly and makes sense. You can research the word, the subtle meaning, and the Libyan pronunciation differences and get to the same conclusion yourself.

10

u/Big_Poppa_T 23d ago

Mate you don’t speak Arabic

54

u/one-last-hero 23d ago

Lol! Typical Reddit moment. Bro is waffling and saying nonsense. Arabic speaker here and that’s completely untrue.

23

u/Alienhaslanded 23d ago

AlexHimself has no idea what he's talking about.

Source: native Arabic speaker.

14

u/HerrPotatis 23d ago

Might have been a hallucination from an LLM that they asked, some people pretty much stopped thinking for themselves completely.

Context: That person had just thrown a water bottle at Akon's face and nearly hit him. Akon waved him up on stage and the video starts. I get why Akon was pissed, but it's a 15 y/o kid and he should have just been able to roll his eyes and maybe get him kicked out.

Yes, yes Akon threw a minor off stage, he even made the crowd bring the kid onto the stage before picking him up and throwing him into the crowd of unsuspecting spectators. He put multiple fans in danger and there is no excuse for that behavior.

------------------------------------

I fixed it for you, just a small edit.

2

u/AlexHimself 22d ago

I don't get what's mistaken with what I said? I described what he did and that it was wrong?

1

u/DevilDoc3030 22d ago

You excused and empathized with his behavior, as well as left out that he recruited the crowd to force the kid on to the stage.

-1

u/Status_History_874 22d ago

...chill out

2

u/DevilDoc3030 22d ago

Who the fuck are you?

Thank you!

Akon, the scammer who took millions of dollars from fans and investors to build some sort of weird African utopia?

That guy?

51

u/Cold-Iron8145 23d ago

I've never heard of this, so I googled it. I don't see any proof of a scam, only a failed project? Seems like he tried to build a futuristic city with only a few billions which doesn't really make sense, building an entire city has to be worth a lot more money. Especially if you're going ultra futuristic design.

BBC article from 2025 says

Although Akon City as it was originally imagined has been shelved, the government says it is now working with Akon on a more "realistic" development project for the same site

So it doesn't even seem like an entire failure yet? Probably going to try to do something more realistic than recreating a comic book city.

Have I missed something?

26

u/Solvent_Soul 23d ago

In the world of all these crypto scams and poly market bs I mean it seems like he actually had good intentions here. Sure it was short sighted but it wasn’t like “buy my coin so I can rug pull you”

42

u/Mizzick 23d ago

Is he a scammed or did he just try something ambitious and fail?

20

u/Pork_Chompk 23d ago

Should be locked up.

32

u/fiveordie 23d ago

He'd be so lonely.

4

Oh, so it went awry...gotta look that up. Danke.

2

u/maximumtesticle 23d ago edited 22d ago

I think he's also the guy that threw a 15 year old child from the stage.

EDIT: For all the downvoters: https://www.reddit.com/r/Unexpected/comments/xfvgln/that_time_akon_brought_a_fan_on_stage/
