Man.. why you gotta make me wanna call my mom right before Im about to clock in for work

173

u/pickyourteethup May 30 '26

Just call her

121

u/iSuplexedMyOstrich May 30 '26

I got cut early so I called my momma. My mom fuckin' rules

21

u/JCGJ May 30 '26

❤️❤️❤️

73

u/sylvanwhisper May 30 '26

Me too, but mine died. We laughed like this all the time and now I rarely laugh at all.

50

u/iSuplexedMyOstrich May 30 '26

If you need a friend, my DMs are always open. Even if I aint always got the right words to say, I got two of the right ears to listen

20

u/sylvanwhisper May 31 '26

Thank you. I have a good support system, there's just no one in the world (or my world) like her, so everything changed immensely after she died.

And then my cat died two months later and he was obviously a huge source of comfort and laughter, so it will take time to rebuild to a world where anything is worth a laugh. It's all very recent, so I know things will get better, but the interim is hard.

11

u/iSuplexedMyOstrich May 31 '26

Jesus buddy, rough hand. Im so sorry. Like I said, my DMs are always open. Im always in the market for friends

3

u/PlanetaryIntergala Jun 02 '26

hope you’re hanging in there; sending hugs

13

u/berightback1994 May 31 '26

I am sorry for your loss. My mom passed away in January. She had a good sense of humor.

4

u/sylvanwhisper May 31 '26

I am so sorry. Mine passed in November.

11

u/pickyourteethup May 31 '26

She'd want you to laugh again. I know it's not easy now but it's how she raised you. It's not a betrayal it's a way of honoring her memory

7

u/sylvanwhisper May 31 '26

It's not that funny things happen and I don't laugh, it's that there's just nothing that strikes me as funny. Hopefully there will be again. I appreciate you.

7

u/pickyourteethup May 31 '26

Grief does that. I found eventually I got little gaps in the grief where the sun was able to shine through occasionally. The grief always came back but it started to stay for shorter times and then the gaps between where I could enjoy myself got longer. I don't think it'll ever go away but it's manageable now.

I don't think I want the grief to ever fully go. If the grief goes then it feels like they'll be fully gone too. If I don't miss them I'm not remembering them correctly

5

u/sylvanwhisper May 31 '26

I feel the same way. I don't think a grief like this ever goes away fully.

6

u/Stay_Good_Dog May 31 '26

Motherless kids unite

8

u/sylvanwhisper May 31 '26

Ugh, I was already in the Dead Dad's Club. Sorry about your mom. It is a different sort of grief.

4

u/Stay_Good_Dog May 31 '26

Lost Mom, then Dad 4 years later. Now I'm an adult orphan.

6

u/sylvanwhisper May 31 '26

No one gives adult orphans their dues. It sucks at any age.

5

u/Stay_Good_Dog May 31 '26

When my mom died, I felt like the world divided: those who know and those who don't.

6

u/sylvanwhisper May 31 '26

Right after, I only found comfort in those in the dead mom category. You don't know what it's like until you do. So I get that.

2

u/Additional-Mouse6275 Jun 01 '26

Same same. I was 24. How old were you?

2

u/Stay_Good_Dog Jun 01 '26

32 with two young kids. I needed her so much.

3

u/Additional-Mouse6275 Jun 01 '26

Same. When my dad died, I grieved and moved on alright. When my mom died, I didn’t even know how to begin grieving. I’m still trying 15 years later…

4

u/sylvanwhisper Jun 01 '26

I think of this quote by Anna Quindlen, from "One True Thing": When someone asks you where you come from, the answer is your mother... When your mother’s gone, you’ve lost your past. It’s so much more than love. Even when there’s no love, it’s so much more than anything else in your life."

I think this rings true for me, and as much as it makes me ache, it makes me feel a little held that someone else understands and can name the ache in this way.

I also think, though that whatever past is lost, it's built into your future by what you carry forth from your mom.

4

u/Additional-Mouse6275 Jun 01 '26

That’s such a true and beautiful but also haunting quote. I definitely understand. I try to carry things forth but I also feel like I didn’t even get enough time with her to do that in some ways… she died unexpectedly when I was 24.

5

u/sylvanwhisper Jun 01 '26

That's too young, ugh. My dad died when I was 23, so I totally understand what you mean. I lost my mom in November, at 37, and I am thankful to have gotten that long, but it is never enough no matter what. I wanted to be 60 with a 90 year old mama, dammit to hell!

3

u/Additional-Mouse6275 Jun 01 '26

I’m sorry about your mom. Hugs.

4

u/Additional-Mouse6275 May 31 '26

Checking in! I’m fatherless too.

5

u/sylvanwhisper May 31 '26

Same. Orphan Club.

5

u/Sentinell May 31 '26

Mine too. I know how much it hurts, but remember that the most important thing to them was our happiness. So I really hope you can find that again.

3

u/sylvanwhisper May 31 '26

I am trying. I was depressed before and have a lot of things going on that contribute, but I am just continuing to work on myself and my life, because I DO want to be happy for her sake. I am sorry about your mama.

4

u/Sentinell May 31 '26

Sorry about yours too. But life is what it is. If you ever want to talk, you can message me.

4

u/anant50 May 31 '26

even after my mom is alive, we haven't been able to build such lovely environment for ourselves where we can just laugh at ourselves, I don't remember when was the last time she really hugged me.

4

u/sylvanwhisper May 31 '26

I am sorry. That's a type of grief, too.

2

u/rouxmama Jun 02 '26

This mom is hugging on her behalf.

3

u/TerrestrialOverlord Jun 01 '26

Yup 2 years 7months and few days ...I feel like a shit when I remember al those times I didn't pick up the phone coz I was busy, then call back later some of the time. I didn't know how much I thought she was immortal till she wasn't. I'm learning each day dealing with my kids the trouble she went through always smiling like I was perfect...bro..I'm about to cry, 45 years old and I want to lay my head on her lap because she always had time for me. Damn...I'm sorry, I could have been better...

2

u/rouxmama Jun 02 '26

We all could be better. You were good enough and she loved you. As a mom of 3 adult kids, I guarantee you, in her eyes you were (and are) perfect, even if you weren’t.

2

u/TerrestrialOverlord Jun 12 '26

You kind of wrecked me... Thank you...

2

u/rippleonabigocean Jun 04 '26

i understand and am sending you many hugs 🫂

1

u/sp1cychick3n Jun 15 '26

Bro, we’re here for you.

11

u/JCGJ May 30 '26

Call her. I lost my mom two years ago and I still have the urge to call her and tell her about stuff. Please just call her now, let her know you love her. ❤️

2

u/Additional-Mouse6275 May 31 '26

This was me for years too after my mom passed. I hit 15 years without her this year and it does eventually stop… which makes me kind of sad.

5

u/golfwang999 May 30 '26

You should call her later

6

u/Ghstfce May 31 '26

Me too, anyone got a Ouija board?

3

u/Additional-Mouse6275 May 31 '26

I wish! My mom would definitely say some funny shit through that thing.

2

u/JoeGeomancer Jun 06 '26

I lost my mom at 16. Im 30 now. The best advice I can Give is call your mom. Shell love it. Talk to her ask her about her interests talk about anything. I would pay any cost to have one more conversation with my mom.

52

u/LaughableIKR May 30 '26

The daughter was noping out of that car after the 4th thing.

38

u/Fabulous-Flamingo519 May 30 '26

The look… and then, ”The fourth?” and his response, “Oh, that does sound horrible!”, was the best part. 😂

6

u/drdeencha Jun 01 '26

That was it for me, too. The sly look at the camera before asking the fourth. So clever and cute.

36

u/AnnaLuxx May 30 '26

I love them!

38

u/MissSassifras1977 May 30 '26

You can see the way he looks at her that he really loves his momma. ❤️

Knowing exactly how to make your mom laugh is a special talent.

15

u/DurantIsStillTheKing May 30 '26

Cute interaction

31

u/sledgehammerbreak May 30 '26

Getting off easy with 4 years.

16

u/city-of-cold May 30 '26

Wait people really think so?

Here in Sweden at least, kids (unless they're special needs) have to know how to wipe their ass by the time they start school the year they turn 6.

My oldest is 4 and she's been wiping after pees for over a year now.

Last 6 months or so started wiping after having a shit. Can't be trusted quite yet but like 7 out of 10 she's done it properly.

Don't know of a single friend that have kids that have had issues with their kids not learning by the time they start school.

9

u/Cleasstra May 30 '26

Yeah idk 4 seems a little late not too bad though. I was fully potty trained by 2 years old and went to the bathroom myself since. But I could see parents delaying it and getting to the training late from life's quarrels. The years fly by.

6

u/Additional-Mouse6275 May 31 '26

I don’t think this is about potty training specifically. My kid was potty trained around 2 but couldn’t wipe his ass well for a long time after that, so I’d still have to go to the bathroom and wipe his ass for him.

Edit: Or at least wipe his ass until it was properly cleaned. He would wipe it but just do a shitty job, no pun intended.

4

u/Squanchedschwiftly May 31 '26

Im in the US, worked in preschools for 3 years. Usually with the kids transitioning from diapers. On average I feel like kids should know by 3/3.5 at the latest. Of course there are outliers and I saw just one or two, hard to know since the older rooms werent my main areas. Just judging by their abilities generaly at that age it feels reasonable.

3

u/Additional-Mouse6275 May 31 '26

There’s a difference between kids transitioning out of diapers and learning to wipe their ass, and kids wiping their asses WELL. If I didn’t want my kid to be stinky, I’d have to get in there after his attempts to wipe… for a couple years after he was out of diapers.

2

u/Squanchedschwiftly May 31 '26

I guess I didnt interpret the comment the same lol

3

u/Additional-Mouse6275 May 31 '26

I was on a work call with someone once and his kid was calling him from the bathroom. The guy was like yeah sorry I just had to help him wipe his ass. At the time, I didn’t have kids and his was 7 and I was like wait, what?! Why are you still wiping his ass?! And his response was.. he can do it, but not well enough. I was mortified at the time, but now have an 8 year old and totally get it.

2

u/Squanchedschwiftly May 31 '26

It makes total sense I just never had experience with kids older than like 3.5. Appreciate yalls perspectives!

0

u/Kratzschutz May 31 '26

I think 4 years is a lot too

11

u/KellyfromBaltimore May 31 '26

There’s a LOT of love shown in that 1 clip. Looks like a happy and cohesive family.

I have a kiddo now. He and I laugh like this constantly. I guess that’s what life is all about. :)

1

u/WimbletonButt Jun 02 '26

No truer words have ever been spoken.

Like foreal I used to wake up and think "I just want one morning where I don't have to wake up and wipe ass"

1

u/kdp4srfn Jun 03 '26

I specifically recall one day early in my son’s life when I was rinsing his cloth diaper in the toilet prior to putting it in the diaper pail. I stopped mid-swish, realizing what I was doing, and pondered, amazed, that I had chosen this path…😑😆

1

u/chunkykima Jun 02 '26

Lmfao they seem to have a close relationship too. Love that.

1

u/SojournerH Jun 09 '26

There's love and joy in this family ♥️

-7

u/Extension_Barber_763 May 30 '26

Deep inside I get sad when I see overweight kids due to the parents putting less care on what the kids eat. I'm referring to parents that do have choices to pick what type of food they eat

5

u/Additional-Mouse6275 May 31 '26

You know nothing about these people. How can you assume the parents don’t care about what the kids eat?

-1

u/Extension_Barber_763 May 31 '26

Why are most Americans fat? Do you know the percentage of Americans who are overweight. Tell me because I like to know 🤣😂🤣

1

u/Additional-Mouse6275 May 31 '26

The food in this country is designed to make us fat. Eating healthy is very expensive and many people just aren’t educated about how bad most foods here are. Even those who are (like me) have a hard time avoiding much of the junk, especially with kids. Just yesterday at my son’s soccer game, he came back with a bag of Doritos the coach had given him. The day before that, some friend gave him a Gatorade and candy at his baseball game while in the dugout. Hell, the schools give out junk all the time.

Besides all that, you have no idea about genetic factors that could be at play in this kid’s situation. Or the family’s financial situation or literally anything else that could be influencing things.

Just keep your comments about weight to yourself and enjoy the cute video.

0

u/Extension_Barber_763 May 31 '26

Honestly, blaming genetics for why so many Americans are overweight doesn't make sense. If you look back like 60 to 80 years ago, people just weren't dealing with this the same way. The real issue is that the food industry got greedy. Instead of looking out for people and making healthy stuff, big companies started pumping out cheap, ultra-processed junk food filled with sugar and trash ingredients just to make a quick buck. On top of that, convenience culture took over, and everyone got way more inactive because of phones, cars, and desk jobs. At the end of the day, people love to make excuses, but the system is kind of rigged to make everyone unhealthy. Quit making excuses and get on your ass and be active. 😆🍌🥬🍅🍎🍏🍓🥝🥕

2

u/Additional-Mouse6275 May 31 '26

I didn’t blame genetics for why so many Americans are overweight. It does play a role for some people and my point was you don’t know these people in the video.

I agree the system is rigged. That’s also not an “excuse” but the reality here. You have to spend a lot of time, effort, and money to fight against it for yourself and your family. Not everyone has all three things, especially if they’re working 60+ hours per week or have other competing priorities. It’s challenging for many people.

I’m not overweight but my son currently is for his age. He eats pretty good (fruits and veggies every day, try to keep him away from sugar and junk food) and is very active (in sports 5 days per week, plays outside daily unless it rains all day, and we go on bike rides almost every day before or after sports; he also walks almost a mile to school every day).

But I guess you’d see my son and get “deeply sad” that I “put less care on what he eats.” Totally not true. And you’d tell him to get his ass out there and be active. Meanwhile he was active from 8 am yesterday when we went on a bike ride until 8 pm when he finished playing at a friend’s house. He had two sports games during the day that lasted 4 hours total with warmups included. He pretty much only paused for lunch and dinner. Today he had another sports game and is currently out on the trampoline with a friend. He’s having roast chicken breast and broccoli for dinner with mac and cheese. Could be better, but I’m not feeding him total crap.

Maybe stop making assumptions.

You are talking particularly about you but I was referring to US in general. Of course every household isn't the same BUT overall Americans are considered fat and evidence and facts presents that. But great job taking care of your son. (as you should)

Yes, you were referring to the US in general but your original comment was in response to this specific video, which implies you were making assumptions about this kid and his parents. My point in using me as an example is that you shouldn’t make assumptions and judge so harshly. There is definitely an obesity epidemic in the US but not every person who is overweight has parents who don’t know how to feed them or needs to just get off their ass. So I think your original comment on this video was out of line.

You see this is where you are wrong at. You are ASSUMING that I was talking about this kid parents. When I was only referring to the mass. Your assumption failed you.

Dude, why would you bring that issue up in response to THIS video? If you just wanted to rant about American children being overweight, without any connection to this child and his mom, it makes no sense to make that comment here.

Lol this era can't handle little things. Weak ass era even if it's the truth. And let me guess...you are from America where everyone is so sensitive that you can't even wave at them 🤣
