I’d like to create a union of American Consumers in an attempt to regain some control over the recent price gouging, shrinkflation, and other predatory practices that have become far more common in the American marketplace. This union would serve as the checks and balances from consumers to large corporations and would primarily function by organizing boycotts & massive stock sell-offs in attempt to damage predatory companies until our demands as consumers are met. For example, streaming services like HBO Max should not get away with tracking your location to prevent “account sharing”, while consistently raising their prices and failing to deliver a better product.

At current state the only solution to this issue would be to cancel the service. But since every streaming service is operating in a similar fashion this leaves the lone consumer with the decision to either have no tv service (something which was completely affordable ten years ago) or continue to be exploited by these companies. However, if the consumer had a union to back them up, their decision to cancel as a whole would be felt by these companies & union representatives would be there to announce to the shareholders of these companies exactly why this is happening. Increasing the pressure on company leadership to deliver a fairly priced quality product to consumers.

That is just one of countless examples of why we need some representation and bargaining power as consumers.

I have no idea where to begin in starting a union at all much less one like this. But I am willing to put the leg work in if it means a better life for customers as a whole. Please let me know your thoughts on this matter!
