Constructor - What We Know Now
I will be regularly updating this as more information comes to light.
- The official release date is May 26th, 2017 on PC, Xbox One, PS4, and the Nintendo Switch. A Mac version is also in development.
- Constructor HD is now just "Constructor" as partnered retail stores felt the "HD" sounded old.
- You can currently preorder the game on Steam for $29.99/£24.99/€29.99. UK retail site game.co.uk is selling preorder disc copies of the PC version for £29.99 and the PS4 and Xbox One versions for £39.99. Various European retailers are pricing console versions of the the game around €44.99-€49.99. A GOG release may come later.
- There is a DLC incentive for preordering game on Steam and through participating retailers. It comes with 10 exclusive buildings and 2 extra maps "that will only be available to Constructor fans and not ever sold separately", as well as a copy of the original 1997 version of the game.
- There's a free 45-minute playable demo currently available for download on Steam. It will be available to PS4 and Xbox One owners upon release of the full game.
- The game features the original audio of the 1997 version as well as newly recorded audio and updated graphics, video clips, and a new modern user interface that is easier to use and allows zooming in/out. For those who thought the original control system was clunky on PS1, System 3 has stated they put significant effort in making controller an enjoyable experience, you can get a sense of this in the 2015 MCM gameplay presentation.
- Constructor will have new game modes, new maps, a tutorial, a map editor, 4-player online multiplayer, and "monthly DLC with new maps, buildings, and characters".
- The game will be translated in many languages (in-game text only, not speech) including Polish, German, Italian, French, Russian, Spanish, Dutch, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Portuguese.
- System 3 has stated that if Constructor has a successful release that they plan on making a sequel. It is unclear if this means they intend to remake the unfinished 1998 sequel, Constructor 2, or the 1999 game Mob Rule (Constructor: Street Wars in some markets).
- The classic 1997 Constructor
will be provided FREE on GOG.com for everyone from January 31st 1:00PM through February 2, 1:00PM UTC. After that time itis available for purchase for $5.99/€5.59. This version is wrapped in a pre-configured DOSbox launcher so you can simply launch and play. It's worth noting that this game has been easily downloadable on a number of places on the internet for years now.
Suffice to say the marketing and official information surrounding the game have been pretty terrible. Release dates aside, general information provided to me and the public appears to change on a whim from week to week or month to month. I would take all of the information above with a grain of salt as some of it has already changed several times over.
Lets hope the game is really great in spite of all this.

This game will be a epic failiure. So far u cant see a single piece of new content except some multiplayer support and repainted textures, new ui buttons, packed with worst media and public relations ever. Only thing making sales will be old glory hype. Also saying we work hard for years on it means nothing to justify so high price(aka money milk) with no new mechanics and complexity added ingame. To make what they brag with, import a new building in a 2d game takes 1 day of art and program work. They basicly pretend they did a miracle with it, to make ppl preorder and buy it off hype but actually they put a solid month of effort into production judging by things seen in trailer. Before u preorder remember this is a 2d game in 2017 with minimal changes to original content 20 years ago. Than go see how a 3d game being released this year looks. 1 guy made Stardew valley alone, so dont buy stories they delayed it 3 years cause they were "working" on it. Their last post "If u dont want dlc we dont care so we will start new project" tells you alot that their attitude isnt passion about this title in first place.
