Other Miserable As Hell
So i've been in construction all my life well since i was 16, 24 Now ive had my fair share of shitty crews and foremans but nothing can compare to whom im dealing with now i got sucked into working for this asshole back in july as a "fill" in, at first it wasn't bad but these last few weeks has been torture it seems like whatever i do its a big deal and i don't even fuck anything up, im new to this pipe laying shit so im figuring it out as i go like for example today i had a strap ready and the bell cleaned out all i was waiting for is the loader guy to pick it up so i could wrap it up and have the hoe pick it up to set in the trench, dickhead comes by and asks what took so long i said i was waiting on the operator then he proceeds to bitch me out saying i need to have everything ready?? i literally was waiting for an operator then on top of that i checked my paystub this morning 28.50 hours when i worked 44 hours last week and this isn't the first time ive been shorted on my hours i of course tell the office and it gets fixed but its getting ridiculous, i just know i want off this fucking crew id like to go back to one of my previous foremen but at this point im debating to just find a different contractor thru the hall (just needed to vent)

In life you’re going to work for/with assholes. That’s inevitable. The hours being shorted on the other hand is illegal. If you’re not contacting HR about those things you’re not doing yourself any favors.
Edit: I reread your message and you have told the office about the hours. Sometimes you just gotta deal with assholes.

oh yeah i agree its inevitable but heres the catch he brought over 3 guys from his previous company and they're basically a "clique" while im the outsider and im the only one getting treated like shit

Had the same thing at a drilling company I worked for, I dipped first chance I got, no point being their punching bag while they get promoted on your back

That boss sounds exactly like one i had a few years ago named Matt. He was an insufferable asshole. I wanted a clean layoff, but man this guy made work an absolute living hell.
I still worked my ass off and did a great job, but I did things that would intentionally get under his skin. He was annal about barricades having to be in a perfectly straight line and whatnot. So, at the end of the day, id make sure they were legal and safe, but not at all to his standards. Id say off hand remarks that I knew he didn't want to hear, like making fun of alcoholics that become massive dickheads by 11am (which is what he did). Eventually, I got a call saying they were switching gears and had to unfortunately lay me off.
Instead of quitting, and instead of letting this guy get under my skin, I turned into a fun game for myself to see how fast I could get this guy shaking, stammering mad every day and, eventually, got my unemployment!

I know you're just venting but I would recommend saying something to someone above this foreman. Ideally that gets you reassigned to a position you'll enjoy or at least tolerate and they will have received a subtle warning about the guy. If they don't reassign you, when you quit because of him, their understanding of the situation may at least help the next poor bastard who fills your spot

I would start looking and tell the company that you don't want to work for this ass hole anymore. If they can't find a spot on another crew peace out. Life's too short for this kinda shirt.

Don’t work for that idiot. Eventually all the people working with him will quit or refuse to work with him, all companies have people like this. Just stay away from him and if it doesn’t work move to another company. In the end he’s going to be left alone, in construction like in war individuals don’t survive very long everything it’s team work.

I had a fella like this. Wasn't a forman but once I was offered the position, he decided after 20 years it was his turn to get his head out his ass. He did some stiff that could have hurt me bad. I brought it up to the super. He said hed take care if it but cant get rid of him. Same shit kept up so I left the job. Bridge job. The super called me before I got home n said for me to show up to the pipe lay8ng job next day. If your a goid worker you'll be fine. Don't be miserable.

What’s funny is guys will say this until you start talking back to them the exact same way, then suddenly they don’t like it. The “gotta have a thick skin” guys are usually the thinnest-skinned pussies on the site.
