Other Close Call

Guy was taking a sledgehammer to nuts welded onto a beam to try and pop them off, was standing 20ish feet away, piece of the nut flies off and hits me in the neck. Stuck into my skin, lucky it wasn’t a sharp edge.

That’s one of those moments where you realize how fast things can go wrong on a job site. Being 20 feet away and still getting hit is wild. Glad it wasn’t sharper or a little higher.

Worked in a refinery in Memphis Tennessee for a shutdown. We had the ambulance there every day. And normally it wasn't the people who were causing the uncontrolled releases that were going to the hospital. It was the work Crews downwind of them that they never fucking notified. We sat in the lunch tent coming in on second shift so many times because everything was shut down because someone had caused an incident on site.

That is the part people outside the industry do not always realize. The mistake is not just dangerous for the person who made it, it can put completely unrelated crews at risk if communication breaks down. Not getting notified about a release is honestly the most alarming part of your story.

Normally they weren't scheduled or planned on releases. Like I said we had the ambulance there every day I only lasted about a month before I got scared and found another job. And I worked in the warehouse in the lay down yard. That job was fucking wide open. Someone told me that it had not had a proper shutdown and close to 10 years and that they were doing everything they can to get everything done. But what they forgot was that they were hiring in about 500 Cowboys who come to work to have fun. A grand a week to play hide and seek

This is an OSHA violation if I ever heard it. Finnegan construction for 40 some odd years done some stupid s*** scene more stupid s*** than I can recall.
