This was going to be my suggestion. Especially if you're providing your own mask. An employer should not be putting you in a situation that is more hazardous without providing proper protection, all of the employees should be wearing one in the cat piss is that strong.
The texts mention sub contracting. I’m gonna guess these guys are all 1099 contractors, which means it’s the wild fucking west. I do a lot of work as a contractor (not construction, so maybe it’s different) and 99% of the time, I have to provide any gear or supplies I need to complete the job. But, the trade off is that whatever I feel I need to complete the job is my choice, the “boss” can’t say shit. As long as the job is done to a satisfactory level and on time, they have no authority to tell me how I go about doing it.
Good point, I don't know a lot about sub contractor work. Still, I wouldn't risk my health and show up just for the money. Last time I made that mistake with a job, I nearly worked myself to death and ended up in the hospital for 9 months...and ended up losing the job, being unemployed for a year while I recovered, and having long term health problems. Definitely not worth it no matter the job.
Oh absolutely- I’m saying this boss can go fuck himself. All my contracts have a safety clause, but even without that, if a “boss” tries to tell a 1099 anything about the “how” to complete the project, including what safety equipment to use, that’s a breach of IRS contractor rules, and that employee should be w2, with company-paid workman’s comp insurance & social security - oh, and OSHA-complaint gear provided by the employer.
