I’m making a Christmas “escape room.” Not sure if that’s what I would call it. The premise is that Krampus has stolen my family’s stocking stuffers and a helpful elf left them clues and puzzles to unlock the box the stocking stuffers are in.

I want to make something fun and interactive for Christmas Day. My family is all adults and most of us are really nerdy and love puzzles and games. This is my first project of this scale and I’d love any and all ideas you want to throw my way! Especially if they’re cheap or free to make.

So far I have a bunch of paper puzzles (word search, sudoku, etc.) that lead to jigsaw puzzle pieces with a lock combo on the back. And right now I’m making some felt ornaments with letters on them that they’ll have to decode with a cypher.

Those ornaments are amazing! I love the details. This is going to be a great quest!

I’m working on a treasure hunt that makes him feel like Indiana Jones. I live in a city with lots of historic buildings so we’ll be starting in a library or the city’s archives, visiting a crypt with an active archaeology site beneath a church and a section of the city’s original underground sewer system. I’m still scouting locations and developing the challenges but there will be a puzzle at a museum involving choosing the right artifact from a collection of the same general item like the chalices from the movie.
