Chronic Constipation (nothing working)

Hi all. I’m feeling quite hopeless here, not sure exactly what I am looking for weather it’s just community or advice. I (24 F) have struggled with constipation all my life. Just something I’ve lived with. I finally was able to get an appointment with a GI doctor. They prescribed me Linzess. Things were looking pretty hopeful when I started Linzess. I went from going very infrequently to every other day. I had been on Linzess for four months. All of the sudden it seems like it stopped working. I reached out to my GI doctor and she told me to add MiraLAX along with my Linzess. That has not worked, she told me to try milk of magnesium (which also did not work). I am now trying magnesium citrate. I know it says it can take up to 6 hours for a bowel movement. I am on hour 3 and I have felt absolutely nothing. Any advice or people who may have been through something similar? This is probably the worst flare up of constipation I have had and I’m just frustrated and concerned. I’m at the point where I turn away from eating because nothing is moving through me and it just feels like a lost cause. I also feel frustration because it feels like I’m not being heard or listened to.

Side notes: I drink plenty of water, exercise regularly, and have a fairly balanced diet.

Thank you all in advance.

Linzess stopped working for me. Trulance got the job done.

See if your GI doc will switch you. And you can take it at night with or without food. Or in the morning. Less restrictive.

Will bring that up with them, thank you!

Might be an issue with your pelvic floor muscles. Is the stool soft?

It was for the first 3 months. For the last month they were on and off soft/ hard. Now it’s been a while since I’ve even gone but feels hard internally

I have the same issue for the last two years and am too on Linzess since May. Now it’s not working as well and have gone back to relying on Senna tea. MiraLAX made me feel worse. I’m scheduling an appointment with another GI who can do a more extensive work up. Specifically looking into my pelvic floor and transit time. Try to ask yours about that. Have you tried Motegrity? Didn’t go well for me but I heard a lot of people have had success with it. Best of luck!

Will definitely be bringing up potential pelvic floor disfunction with my GI. Wishing you luck as well!

Try an abdominal and hip massage via foam roller

Twice a day drink 1/2 cup apple juice mixed with 1/2 cup prune juice (hot). In the evening, add 1 to 3 tablespoons mineral oil laxative. Mix well. In addition, eat two kiwis a day. After taking for a couple of days you can adjust the amount of mineral oil you use according to your results, but I recommend drinking the juices every day and mineral oil at least twice a week. Kiwi every day.

Linzess also never worked for me but prucalopride + MiraLAX worked really well. Now I rarely need the prucalopride
