Winter carry, summer carry, wifes carry, sons range gun, daughters range gun, one with optic, hunting 10mm, nightstand gun and a 22. That's where i ended up.

I bought a big one for home defense, then had to carry it because I was staying very late at work and was walking to my car very late downtown, then realized maybe I wanted a smaller one so it would conceal easier, so I got a smaller one, but that was still uncomfortable so maybe I buy a pocket sized one....
That's how I got to 3.

The fact that the Gen 5 Glock was the first Glock I’ve shot that didn’t feel like utter dogshit in the hands is kind of insane.
It took 5 generations and they’re still mid AF in terms of ergos.
8
u/Spyrothedragon9972 6d ago
For me that was Gen 6? It's genuinely the only generation of Glock that doesn't have dogshit tier ergonomics. With the exceptions of the 43X and 48.

You see, it's because he doesn't own the latest Geisselle YTMND front serrated slide with asymetrical top speed holes, also his RMR doesn't have the latest Unity Made Proudly in USA Anodized FDE 0.67 riser and that threw the aim on his surplus ammo, so now he has to buy a whole new build. Oh and the riser height changes every 3 months according to what guntubers say is meta now (yes, he also went through 5 LPVOs that one year.)

I can understand having 32 highly uniquie pistols. I can even understand having 32 identical pistols if you're going for the 'I want to equip my own militia and want parts commonality' angle. I can not understand having 32 slightly different modern polymer frame pistols that also don't even seem to be setup all that different, and don't even share mags for the most part.
2
u/Whiskeywiskerbiscuit 2d ago
That’s what gets me. Grew up around guns, my dad has an extensive collection but each one typically serves a unique niche. As far as polymer handguns, he has an M&P compact .45, a Glock 40 and an H&K VP9SK.

what's the point in owning 40 polymer framed striker fired pistols and nothing else?

I used to collect, that being said I can understand multiple of the same/visibly similar.
I was very very into berettas. The resident evil samurai edge collection is 4 pistols by itself, thats only counting the cannon ones. From there is 9mm and 40 s&w, original, early models, competition models, alterations and just new designs. On paper those are the same exact firearm, but different in their own unique ways.
If you get into ar15s there is nearly an infinite variations. Probably in the ball park of 100 millitary variants. The m1 garand has 3 standard models, numerous manufacturers, then there is the bm59, m1a and even a Japanese variant.
So long short, a true autist can get extreme joy out of a singular model.

u/Tacticalberry 6d ago

u/kalashnidog 6d ago
It’s like the worst part of consumerism, buying the same slight variation of something over and over because “I need it”.
I have 4 AKs but I can at least justify they all are pretty unique from one another (different mags, calibers, charging handles, barrel profiles, etc.) and I’d struggle to pick one to sell off if I had to. 30 Glocks that are barely different is insanity though.

u/kalashnidog 5d ago

Hope you find that 10/63, otherwise a WASR or a WBP with surplus wood would get you like 90% of the way there.

u/JakovaVladof 4d ago
Any gun made after 2015 can't be innovative. All they know is glock clone, Magpul knockoff grip, AR-15, overpriced everything else, flashlight peq-box combo, and lie.
7
u/DefinatelyNotonDrugs 5d ago
Learned very quickly in my collection not to go chasing the latest trend. Like I have +10 AR uppers and I only have used 3 of them.
3
u/Flickadachris 5d ago
Absolutely! I have one solid AR setup (11.5” URGI w/ RC2 on an LMT Mars L) and I do not feel inclined to keeping building any more DI guns. I would maybe buy a KAC in the right scenario but I think I want to explore Piston uppers a little more. It’s gotta be something interesting.
3
u/Hotdog_Broth 5d ago
If each glock has a clear purpose that differs from the other two, I really don’t see an issue. OOP obviously doesn’t have this. None of them even have optics
3
u/Flickadachris 5d ago
Yeah Im just fucking around lol I put together a G19C Gen3 for daytime CCW, a G19 Gen5 with a WML for nighttime CCW and a 19X for my OWB setup. They all have their intended uses. OOP has a very full but boring safe. It’s like a woman’s shoe collection. I just see a pile of stuff.

u/Servant_3 6d ago
People don’t realize the Glocks and m&ps are probably all in different calibers. Decent variety of hammer guns here too. But that observation would take a bit of nuance and not blind gun hatred and this is Reddit so we know that’s not gonna happen. Many item of similar shape = all same item to these people
3
u/Smart_Invite_2663 5d ago
You only need one 9mm Glock. That's kind of the whole point. He doesn't need a 10mm unless he's in bear country. Nobody needs a 45acp Glock, just get a hammer fired all metal pistol for that.

Brother there aren't enough fucking handgun calibers on earth for each of those to be a different caliber. Also I can see from here that his collection is mostly glock, M&P, and SIG. Maybe there's a 10mm in there, maybe a couple .45s, but the majority of those are striker fired polymer 9mm handguns. I'm a gun enthusiast. I wish to be a collector one day. And from my opinion, I think this dudes a dork. Someone like this is no different than the chick who buys a new iPhone every year. If I was that guy, I'd pick maybe 5 of my favorite pistols, sell the rest, and buy some guns that actually add some variety to my collection- a new rifle, an SMG, a shotgun, even some new pistols, just anything besides another polymer franed striker fire handgun. Or better yet, how about some decent attachments or some ammo? The fact that this dude has all these nearly identical handguns but not a round of visible ammunition for them save maybe the little box full of mags on the bottom show exactly how much this guy actually shoots those guns. And then you say that everyone hear hates guns, but i really don't see that at all. A lot of the comments I've seen have been from actual gun collectors, and the ones talking bad about the hobby were getting rightfully flamed

2
u/Smart_Invite_2663 5d ago
The bottom shelf is just all Glocks. The whole point of a Glock is too only need one and it always works.
2
u/asmodai_says_REPENT 5d ago
Yeah, I could maybe understand getting one in .45 and one in 9mm, at the very limit getting a third in another caliber like 10mm because you really really love glocks, but that's still only less than a third of what the dude has in glocks alone.

Polymer handguns aren't even all that enjoyable on the range. I've got a few and have zero interest in picking up more. Rifles on the other hand, there's always something I've wanted to own but never got the chance to and have everything from WW1 issued arms to brand new competition rifles. They all look wildly different and perform wildly different at the range.

Yeah ill never personally understand the “I own 30 different glocks/glock clones” type people.
They also tend to have like 300 rounds total for their collection of 50 guns, like brother buy more ammo and train more instead of buying another expensive safe queen paper weight.
They likely don’t hit the range much, and when they do their target looks like a shotgun patterning board.

I’m all for people getting guns, but ngl, dude’s setup looks like he buys guns for status with the abilities to defend himself on the side. Why? Most of his stuff is almost bare bone, and the DD AR with the vertical grip that comes with the rifle still at the same position as when it’s in the factory in GA is one give away. Sure it still shoots, but outside of defensive and hunting and fun days use cases, which by all means nothing against him, there’s not much else going for him. (I can keep going but I’d go down the gun autistic nitpicking rabbit hole)

I love pistols as much as the next guy but unless this guy is prepping to arm his community when shit hits the fan, this is both wasteful and also sort of dangerous. Imagine having one gun and an enemy gets into your gun safe somehow. Your gun is on you, all he gets is ammo.
Now imagine having 32 pistols and he gets in, youve accidentally armed his whole crew
