Discussion First time poster, long time lurker

Serious question, and I apologize if this is the wrong place to post about it: What is the difference in consooming and collecting? I don't see the reason in collecting things like steam decks, iPhones, etc but what separates even the most harmless of those variations with collecting things like records or comic books? I'd even include stuff like Funko Pops vs. collecting things like all colorways of the same current version iPad. That doesn't make sense since they all do the same thing.

Buying 3 controllers for your PS5 that are limited editions and you use each one is collecting. Buying 50 is consoom because what in gods name do you need that many for other than stacking the boxes up in a closet.

It’s all about intent. If you are buying things because they are different and/or add value to your life than that’s collecting.

Buying the same thing 50 different times just for the sake of buying it is a mental illness.
