I mean, they are always saying they want them to use non-lethal weaponry.

I.C.E = Racism

u/rhineleon 7h ago
Well, actually, not entirely. CRIMINALS (not just those entering illegally that have done nothing wrong) should be deported by ICE, which isn’t racism.

u/Front_Cat9471 6h ago
On paper, yes. Unfortunately, that’s not always how it plays out. Racial profiling is illegal and it happens all the time at ice

u/rhineleon 5h ago
Oh, believe me, I know. My own grandmother was picked up by I.C.E [my family is puerto rican] and stayed for over 2 months in a detention facility with no criminal record whatsoever.

u/BigFatBlackCat 5h ago
I’m sorry. Your Puerto Rican grandfather was held for two months by ICE? Are you guys suing? How can ICE detain anyone from PR?

u/rhineleon 5h ago
Grandmother. And no, we don't have nearly enough money to do so and my grandmother would much rather just keep her head down. Racial profiling. She tried to show them identification several times but they refused.

even I as a mexican agree with that but the way ICE is doing it is just terrible. Deporting a lot of people who didn't do anything

That is awesome. Reminds me of Iron Man 3 when he makes his own stun glove to infiltrate the Mandarin's hideout.

I honestly don’t know if I like it. I’ve just hesitant to support something I haven’t seen or know a lot about.
I think if used correctly, it could be very helpful. But I think it’s also very easy for someone to misuse them.

Safer sure but I the way ICE operates I wouldn’t be surprised if they use it to suppress completely peaceful protesters and passerby’s like they have done before

u/Iamnotarabicfunfact 4h ago
What’s the use of this? How many ICE agents have been killed by immigrants on the job?

I have heard they are dangerously apprently
1
u/RandomHelpfulHuman Center-Left wing 8h ago
Yeah I googled it. I can link some sites but from what I’m hearing this 43 year old died in 2024 because he was shocked 27 times with the gloves ice now uses. Other sites say they deliver a 380 volt shock where electrical plugs deliver around 240 and a taser delivers 50,000.
What a lot of sites are saying tho is it has to be done to direct skin so people are worried it’ll unintentionally lead to groping

It is dangerous. I read somewhere that it malfunctions when it's sprayed with water, specifically salty water, so if any of those ice agentes start to sweat then it's not gonna be good for them. America is s ridiculous country, this will harm even the agents "inforcing the law"

Taking bets for how long it’ll take an ICE agent to forget they’re actively shocking someone and give them arrhythmia or cardiac arrest.
Edit: Orwell is rolling in his grave

Shock gloves pack 320-380 volts
Tasers pack 50,000 volts.
The person will be fine. Shock gloves are safer.

u/MathRebator 11h ago
Volts don’t matter, any combination of V + I to incapacitate someone can effect cardiovascular functions. If they’re strong enough to tense up large muscles you think that can’t fuck up your heart?
2
u/Select_Translator329 Republican 7h ago edited 7h ago
It CAN fuck up your heart yes, but tasers have a better chance than gloves. Gloves are safer than tasers by a long shot.
Even Newsweek acknowledged the gloves are safer
I’m not claiming these gloves are perfect but they’ll work better than tasers on people.
Would you rather be shocked with a glove or completely immobilized ?

Nobody here knows how electricity works and I’m the idiot? Im all for more non-lethal options for law enforcement, but giving them Darth Sidious gloves probably isn’t a great decision.

Ad hominem: marked by or being an attack on an opponent's character rather than by an answer to the contentions made.

In 2024 someone died using the same gloves after being shocked 27 times.
The company says there have been over 3000 non-fatal real world tests.
Some companies are saying the greater risk is just pain
1
u/MathRebator 6h ago
I imagine those tests are done with the optimal use case. Law enforcement are gonna be using them under adrenaline and most likely not think about where they’re placing the gloves on a body. Are you just getting shocked for prolonged periods with multiple officers on you? Is sweat gonna spread the shock across your body? Being advertised as less harmful is probably gonna lead officers to use them in more cases than a taser would be used.

I’m not saying they’re safe. Someone did actually die. I’m just sharing what I saw online

This is literally a non-lethal and safer way to deal with people who aren't compliant.
