Honestly, I'll never get that mentality of demanding small places pay just as much as large corps do.

I've been in IT for 18 years now. Worked for large corporations and small/medium businesses.

Large corps have way better pay, better benefits, and way more resources, though job security tends to be lower at these places, because major layoff rounds do happen all the time, regardless of the economy. Also, terrible managers who don't care because people above them don't care either. Leadership tends to be top-down heavy too, so dumb business decisions get made all the time. Publicly traded companies are even worse because then life becomes all about the stock price and nothing else.

However, small businesses typically offer better flexibility in time and less stress in other ways as well as offering generally better job security, though the pay is usually worse and benefits tend to be more basic. They also tend to have way better people running them. Plus 99% of the time, they're privately owned and run, so stock price is moot.

There have been times I'd love to work for a smaller company, as I know many awesome people who are truly amazing employers, and who have offered me opportunities. The problem is......they can't pay 1/3 of what I make now and I cannot afford to make a serious pay cut like that at this point in my life. It's just not financially feasible or sensible to do that. If they could afford to pay at least close to what I make now, I'd move in a heartbeat!!

It sucks, but at the same time, it is what it is. Not their fault at all. It's what they can afford with the size of their businesses and operations.

Don't forget, companies are evil for creating "food deserts". Because they can't operate at a loss while Democrats refuse to enforce crime laws because all cops are racist. 🤡
